Summary: A GREAT NOVEL, WORTH THE READ!
Review: I have read many Star Trek books in the short course of half a year, and I can truly rank "Intellivore" among one of my favourites. Although I have many comments and suggestions for bettering this book which I perfer not to mention, "Intellivore" was very... gripping, to say the least. But I do have to say, it went a little slower than it should've, and I would like to have known more about the aliens than what was mentioned. Diane Duane is a fantastic author and did a great job in writing "Intellivore", but she has done a better job in the past. Still, this was a highly enjoyable book, and I liked the introduction of the woman and Trill captain. Nicely done, Diane!

Summary: Terrible
Review: I have read numerous Star Trek books and this is, by far, the worst one I have ever read. The book is way too slow and wordy. I had to force myself to finish it, thinking it could only get better, unfortunately, it never did.

Summary: A Great Author of A Great Series
Review: In this novel Diane gave me a view on the world of StarTrek TNG unlike any experiance you could get from watching the show on TV. You arn't following just one character, you know everyones thoughts when you need to, it is constently an upbeat tempo from the time you start reading the first page on to the last word of the book. The book written from a POV of knowing all and hearing all, I believe it's technically called Third Person Omnenlucient, but I could be wrong. It's a quick reading book because of the temp itself, I had the hardest time putting it down. This was a very well written book.

Summary: ST-TNG: Intellivore
Review: Star Trek-The Next Generation: Intellivore written by Diane Duane is a mystery with the elememts of danger and the fight to live or die.

The book is set in the Great Rift between the Orion and Sagittaries arms of the galaxy where for some reason the star population is sparce and there is a reason for this. To solve the mystery and to find out why, the Federation sends Captain Jean-Luc Picard and the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise along with two other Starships on the expedition. Mystery abounds in this story and the ending will keep you on the edge of your seat.

For action-adventure you can't beat this book spiced with mystery and the peril of the Enterprise and all aboard is at stake.

Summary: A good Star Trek Next Generation book
Review: The author took a bit too long to get to the meat of this story. On the up side, the diversion with an alien species of rather powerful technical means was my original suspect as to how/what the bad guys were in this story.

There were enough indirections to keep the reader interested. I finished this fast reading story in 4 sittings.

A weak spot in this novel was the lack of any significant information or purpose to the "Intellivore", other than consuming energy from the brains of other species. The species could easily have been called the "Intellibore". This made the method used to defeat the creature(s) a bit more easy to swallow.

And what of all those synaptically dormant survivors? Yikes, a few tragic lose ends.

Summary: Great writing but not spooky enough
Review: The central plot for this book is more like something in the Original Series: the Enterprise encounters an interstellar monster and must destroy it. The author really created an epic foe for the Enterprise. Her writing is on her as usual high level. The descriptions of scenes and events are very clear. The action scenes are very clear and vividly described, and make for exciting reading. The language the characters use is a little strange though. This author just gets a bit too poetic when writing for the Next Generation crew. On a somewhat similar note, one flaw I found in this book was that the tension level, considering the magnitude of the enemy the Enterprise is facing and some of the things it does, was definitely lacking. Diane Duane showed in Dark Mirror that she could create a very tense, creepy atmosphere, but for some reason she neglected to do so here. Part of that flaw is her treatment of the monster's victims. Either they are people that we have little sympathy for, or their deaths are held at a distance from the reader, as though deliberately not to have too much impact. Instead, we get too little. On the plus side, this book also describes the lifestyle and some of the work of Starfleet's dedicated deep space explorers, which I found very interesting. All in all this is a very entertaining and well written book. A ghost story just should have been spookier, that's all.

Summary: Extremely Disappointing
Review: This book was both good and bad. It was good because it was sort of a new idea and it was very creatively written. I had the hardest time reading it though, it was incredibly "wordy" and the book just didn't seem to "flow."
