Rating: Summary: Better than the first, but ... Review: As with the first book by Cover, part of the reason it's so good is that he's parroting the Graphic Novel by J. Michael Stracynski, practically word-for-word. The first third of the novel is additional material covering the nine years after the big events in the previous books, on the anniversary of The Surge, and the climactic battle that caused it. Frankly I feel that a book could have been dedicated to each year in between, fleshing out some of the characters (and perhaps focusing on some of the lesser known characters -- this is a HUGE ensemble starting at the beginning with 113 "specials"). Once we get to the 10th Anniversary, Cover starts parroting Stracynski's work again, and there is very little additional information, and again we might as well have just read the Graphic Novel.
Rating: Summary: intriuging read read Review: great action and drama can't wait for book 3
Rating: Summary: best fiction yet Review: i think that Rising Stars: Ten Years After is the best fictional book i have read yet.(other than the first Rising Stars book) this book keeps me on the edge of my seat. J.M.S. is a very good fiction writer. After I finish this book and the last one of the the trilogy, I want to read other books of his.

Rating: Summary: intriuging read read Review: I wasn't going to write a review on this, but when I noticed that this piece of garbage had 4 stars on it, I had to follow my conscience and warn people away. There isn't one good moment in this book. I enjoyed the graphic novel, but the author's rendition here is mind-bogglingly horrible. I actually finished it to the end, which proved to be more hazardous to my brain cells than an all-week drinking binge, simply because I couldn't wrap myself around how genuinely awful it was. "Cringe" is an incredibly apt word to use in describing the process of reading this book. The dialogue was extremely bad, but the descriptions were worse. Honestly, if the subject matter didn't place it in the adult age range, the writing would have convinced me that this was intended for 5 year olds. The whole book feels like the author has nothing useful to contribute, and is simply making his characters emulate his favorite 2 dimensional TV shows. I was embarrassed to be reading this book. Embarrassed for myself, for the author who wrote it, the other people that have read the book, the publishers of the book, the other books that shared space with it in the bookstore, etc. This is a painful, painful book to read. Please, don't make the same mistake I made in buying it. I'm done for, but you can move on, move on right past this book and pick up something good. Honestly, you could close your eyes in a book store and randomly point, and be guaranteed that what you come up with would be better than this trash.

Rating: Summary: Dark and moody Review: I'm not a huge fan of books written in the first person, but I sure did enjoy this one. The way the main character was portrayed helped make the whole book believable, and supplied a dark, moody, and gritty feel to the whole story. This story actually made the world of super-heroes seem believable. I say it's a good read if you like the Batman gothic scene.
Rating: Summary: Wonderfully amazing Review: This is one of the best books that I have read in a long while. It's a very simple read, but it is also very captivation and is filled with much excitement. A few weeks ago I stumbled across the first book while looking around in a local book store, and since then have passed it on to a few friends who love it as much as I did. Before I had finished the first, I had already ordered the second. This book has surpassed the expectations I had for it, because the first book is nothing more than a plot setup, although a spectacular one, but in this book, the action really starts. I have taken note in some of the reviews where people gripe about this book because it doesn't compair to the comic book series, but as of yet I haven't read the comic, so as a stand-alone novel, it is amazing. My one and only complaint, which for the most part is over shadowed by the greatness of the story, is that the person that reviewed it for typos did a horrible job. They drove me crazy, but again, despite the typos, this was one heck of a book. Hence the five stars. If you haven't read the comic book series, I highly suggest this book. Of course you should read the first book first, if for no other reason then to get to the greatness that is the second book.
Rating: Summary: The best comic book ever Review: This is the best comic book ever. Im not a comic book geek, but i must admit that this book is great. The story is base in a real worl with no other "Special" like the Marvel universe or DC comic story line. That's what make the story even more attractive of how us, normal peaple, will react if a group of Special human would come to be and how they live in a wold with judgement and prejudisim that we live in. This 3 act story line is great Fist act: Who the Specials are 2th act: What they do in the world 3th act: How the rest of the world react to what they do
Rating: Summary: Almost as bad as root canal Review: Two words: [very bad]. This "book" (and I use the term with apology to all other books) is wretched hack work that bleaches out any color, any entertainment, any depth or substance of JMS' original excellent story. This is a sterling example of how *not* to write and with intrinsic value only as firestarter. Let's get to specifics: Cringe-worthy dialogue, for example: "My love of duty is constant," he said, "whereas my love for you shall pass. Eventually." (p.48) We also have wooden exposition that also manages to be self-congratulatory and oh-so-clever: "...raising her eyebrows like a Vulcan who'd just realized it was finally time to mate." (p.10) and "Matt supposed it was the people's right to misbehave, if that was what they chose to do, but as a self-confessed straight arrow, he could not help but disagree." (p.46) But, like one of those bad infomercials, wait! There's more! Call now and we'll throw in inane characterization, we'll add a bleaching away of every particle of enjoyment of the super-hero genre, and a work with all the interior depth and color of a black and white postcard! Disturbingly, Cover writes a scene wherein Critical Maas deliberately flamethrowers her own children alive as they're trapped in the wreckage of an armored car. Thankfully, Cover didn't write about their screams or the smell of their burning. (A page later she rips out the still-beating heart of her ex-husband to display to an enemy, so I guess one can't have everything.) I stopped reading this at page 53, I couldn't take any more.
