Rating: Summary: A good story but doesn't belong in S. C. E. Review: The Foundations trilogy is a series of 3 Scotty engineering novels that is loosely tied to a present-day daVinci framing story. Due to the breakup of this story into 6 parts (beginning and end of each book) I had a hard time following that story, as well as noting how the two stories relate. Just taking the Scotty story on its own, it's pretty good although I found it hard to care about the supporting characters. My recommendation would be to wait until March 2004 and purchase the print paperback compilation of the 3 Foundations books. The framing story will be cleaned up a bit (per the authors) and reading them all in one shot will provide some continuity that I missed reading them 3 months apart.

Rating: Summary: This trilogy just keeps getting better Review: The second book of this SCE trilogy is even more enjoyable than the first which was very good indeed. While I'm enjoying the framing story as the SCE crew attempt to aid some very lost aliens called the Senuta, the flashback stories are what is really making this trilogy special for me. In book 2 the flashback story follows up the events of the TOS episode "Return of the Archons". Ever wonder what happened after Kirk got Landru to deactivate itself? Well here's your chance to find out. And fans of Montgomery Scott have just got to love the prominent role he gets to play. While it's not absolutely necessary to have read "Foundations-Book 1" to enjoy and understand this book it does help. Both are well worth reading.
