Rating: Summary: AuthorZone.Com Book Review Review: A thought provoking fantacy fiction. You must read the first two books though.Very powerful writing!
Rating: Summary: Evergence Trilogy! Review: After first reading the first, Evergence: The Prodigal Sun I never DREAMED the Trilogy would come so far! The first was great, and ultimately blossemed into something I would have never believed so much would happen in only the span of three books. So much happened in just Evergence: A Dark Embalance! In A Dark Embalance brings a close to the story of Morgan Roche and her destiny. While some things you may see coming, much of it you won't have imagined to happen. Roche, as with all three Evergence novels, jumps from one emergency to another while she strives to learn more about the Super-AI 'Box' and the seemingly freak(Compared to the rest of his kind) Clone Warrior that she is not sure if she trusts or not... All the while coming closer to her destiny. Coming into A Dark Embalance, Roche's crew consists of Amedio Haid, and ex-mercenary and military genius; a young Surin Reave, Maii who has developed into a trusted friend; Uri Kajic, built into the Ana Veriene; Adoni Cane, a genetically engineer Clone Warrior that seems to be on her side; and Box, Super-AI that seems to have access to everything. I look forward to hearing from these authors again, maybe a sequal series taking place in the same universe. I am anxious to see if anything becomes of the universe created by Sean Williams and Shane Dix! Well done!
Rating: Summary: A great finale to this sf trilogy Review: After the debacle at the Palasion System station, Commonwealth of Empires Intel Agent Morgan Roche follows her former boss Jelina Heidid into the Sol System. Morgan knows she must stop Jelina and the other clone warriors from destroying mankind. However, something is happening in the Sol System as it sees if vessels have followed Morgan's ship into the system. Morgan does not know who the real enemy is. For instance on her ship is Cane, a clone warrior, who insists he is human. However, one thing is certain, everyone in the vicinity of the Sol System wants a piece of Morgan. With only the mysterious "Box" that is now melded inside her mind from the events at Palasion, her esper Maii, and hopefully a loyal crew including Cane, Morgan prays that her destiny is to defeat an unknown powerful enemy. A DARK IMBALANCE is the final novel in the EVERGENCE trilogy (see THE PRODIGAL sun and THE DYING LIGHT). As with the previous two tales, this science fiction with some fantasy elements is a thought provoking exciting tale due to the strong characterizations especially in this case of Morgan. The story line is fast-paced, as it seems as if events force Morgan to jump from one fire to another. Though it helps to have read the earlier two novels as references frequently return to them, fans of Star Trek will enjoy this book and the entire series. Harriet Klausner
Rating: Summary: Can't understand why there's such a skew in the reviews Review: Clearly the ending is a cop out. If it difficult to believe that serious reviewers give it 5 stars. Look, Williams/Dix, go back to the last book, figure out a way to end the otherwise-excellent trilogy without ruining it. So many interesting tenets that it's a crime to end up with something akin to "and then she woke up..."
Rating: Summary: Unsatisfying Review: EVERGENCE, 3 is the conclusion of a three book set. The novels trace Morgan Roche and her companions through a series of adventures all targeted to discovering the secret of the "clone warriors." Of the three novels, this one falls short of expectations. By the end, readers have invested time to read approximately 1,200 pages total and should be rewarded for their efforts. With very little character development, the 1,200 pages finally get the reader comfortable with the characters, even to caring about what happens to them. But the authors let the readers down in this regard. Without giving away plot twists, final denouement, etc., I could envision at least one or two satisfactory outcomes given the characters and background. On the positive side, the millieu and the extensive universe the authors created was well done. But wasted. The final third of the novel is almost contrived to support the ending. The authors were good enough to plant sufficient hints throughout, but came close to employing "deus ex machina."
Rating: Summary: In response Review: I dont normally bother with writing reviews but felt after I read a recent one froma reader in San francisco regarding Dark Imbalance, I had to say something in the authors defense. While I appreciate that everyone has their own opinions on these things I find it kind of arrogant that this reader would say that he cannot believe that a "serious" reviewer would like this book. It almost implies that the opinions of others are wrong and I resent that! I loved this book, and the entire Evergence series. There is nothing even remotely "akin" to "and then she woke up and it was all a dream" or whatever this person suggested. If anything I found the conclusion refreshingly different. I know some people I spoke to didn't enjoy it because of what happened to the characters, but they still enjoyed the book itself and the writing style of the authors. I happened to like the way the series was finished. It took me by surprise because I was expecting something similar to the way most of these series finish up (happy endings which allow the characters to go off and have further adventures). I have heard that it is the intention of these writers to go back and do a second Evergence series which I hope that one day they do because I for one would be out there in the shops on the first day of release to buy them. Reader from SF suggests these authors should go back and rewrite the last book. I say leave as it is! Evergence trilogy stands out for me as one of the best science fiction series of the last decade. Whether we like the ending or not, it is an ending the authors wanted to write. If reader from SF wants a different ending then perhaps they should go and write a series themselves as they would like to see it. But for my money the ending of Dark Imbalance is NOT a cop out by any stretch of the imagination. It is a well written book which builds to a conclusion that gives the reader (this one anyway) an emotional impact. I urge readers who have not read this series yet not to be put off by such comments by reader from SF. You may not like the ending the authors offer but I think it will be one you'll remember.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful! Review: I have read all three books and while enjoying the other 2 felt this to be the strongest. Was a wonderful conclusion to the series and didn't pull its punches as so many other books of this type of writing tend to do. The entire series reminded me of the old Brit tv series Blakes 7 and that can't be a bad comparison as that series was one of the best SF shows ever! I loved the way the writers didn't wrap their charcaters in cotton wool -- they were brutal! When I read their next book (she says with fingers crossed that there WILL be another book) I will be reading it wondering who the hell is going to survive! The writing itself was tight, the characters well drawn, and there was a good mix of action and information dumping. I read it in 2 sittings and by the end I wanted more! I urge anyone who has ever enjoyed this type of Sci Fi to go out and read these books! You'll be in for a treat!

Rating: Summary: Great end to a great trilogy! Review: I have thoroughly enjoyed this entire trilogy. Too bad it had to come to an end so soon. This book was a great way to end the great trilogy! What a twist! I'll be looking for upcoming titles from these two authors. Very interesting universe. I'll be looking to see if Shane Dix and Sean Williams write more into this universe. Very well done.
Rating: Summary: Still on my best trilogy list Review: I see that some readers felt dissatisfied with the ending. That's ok. If everyone felt like I do, Hollywood would be out of business. I loved the ending and anyone who couldn't see the potential for such an ending was not paying attention. The clues were there and I wanted the ending to be different as much as Morgan Roche did the entire journey but understood that things do not always work out the way you want them. I was then left with a total respect for the writers ability to let go of the typical ending and have the courage to do something different. I loved these characters with all their talents and flaws and deeply hope to be able to someday return to their world, as I am sure there are many other characters waiting to share their story with us. We still know very little of the Dato Bloc, the high humans and the others. I have no doubts that Williams and Dix have plenty more to share with us. Lead on gentelmen, and we will follow!
