Summary: A wonderfully enjoyable read
Review: I am hard to please when it comes to epic fantasy, but I enjoyed this book very much. The characters, which could so easily have been cartoons, have quirks and characteristics which turned them into real people. I found the concept of were-dragons (it seems like such a cool power, until you find that all kinds of realistic problems inhibit when and where you can change shape) extremely interesting. The levels of palace intrigue, with different people forming various alliances and no one clearly seeing the whole picture, kept me riveted to the story. Both the male and female hero are believable people with all kinds of emotions and problems. I can't wait for the next book!

Summary: Disappointing
Review: This is a very thin book. I bought it because the cover was wonderful, and now I'm learning that old adage about judging a book by its cover the hard way.

On the other hand, I have seen an advance copy of a new book from tor called RHAPSODY by Elizabeth Haydon and it is awesome! It has all the power and magic I was expecting from this series, but it is by an author with the talent to let the reader make the discoveries instead of beating us over the head with what everyone is thinking. I check Amazon all the time for it but haven't seen it yet. I hope it's available soon. i recommend it to anyone who loves well-written, intelligent fantasy and wants to see something entirely new and different, not rip offs of Anne McCaffrey or Robert Jordan. The characters are amazing! Save the money yuo would have spent on Bertin and wait for RHAPSODY.

Summary: a must for dragon lovers!
Review: A great love story filled with emotion. I loved it. The plot was some what hazy, but I believe it's an introduction to many more novels. Novels that will define the characters and the plot more clearly. I do recommend it to anyone who has a passion for dragons.

Summary: 1st time author needs instruction - not a hefty contract
Review: Save your money. The author has a few compelling ideas but falls prey to several basic story-telling problems. First, she is too quick to tell you what the characters do or think or feel rather than just letting the characters do something or think something or feel something. New characters suddenly appear and play an important role w/ no "introduction," and only vaguely described past events are called upon for emotional significance. Emphasis often feels misplaced. The characters gain or use grand, sweeping powers with little build up or tension. Anyone can think of fantastical characters, powers, or worlds. I pay for a book in order to have someone make them come alive, ready to leap off the page because of the detail and grit that make them interesting and worth reading about. It's simply not here.

Summary: A Must Read!
Review: Joanne Bertin paints a vivid and enthralling set of scenes, and in them places REAL, believable, loveable characters. Despite their powers, these are vulnerable sensitive people held apart from humanity by their responsibility. However, they are still saddled with all the needs that people have. Linden, being half dragon, is nearly immortal. It's conceivable that he'd become so pre-occupied with his personal needs that he'd forget to care about humanity itself...but he never does. His sensitivity to the needs of 'commoners' and royals alike in the midst of his own troubles shows why a dragon would choose him to share souls. He's much more 'human' than most human celebrities today, and I love him for it. Linden's search for his soulmate twined perfectly with the mystery and danger of the plot, making this a book I just couldn't put down. BRAVO!

Summary: Same old, same old,
Review: The characters were stereotypical, predictable and had very little depth. The motivations of the characters were timeworm. I skipped reading in excess of 100 pages and did not miss anything that was important for me to know to understand the last 85 pages of the book. This is not a book for which I would lose sleep to stay up and read.

Summary: a new brilliant world and exciting reading
Review: A romantic adventure with action you expect in a fanatasy book. I couldn't put the book down.

Summary: GREAT!
Review: Well, what can I say? I know talent when I see it. Joanne Bertin's book The Last DragnLoard is a must read. The problem with most dragon related novels it that they are, in some way or another, the same thing. In this novel Joanne has brought the spot light on Weredragons. People who have the power to change into dragon form. They have 2 souls... One of their human side and the other.... You guessed it! a dragon. I think Anne McCaffrey said it best with her review. - "I enjoyed this very much indeed. It's nice to find a new writer of such obvious merit and vivid imageries. Joanne Bertin is a brand-new author whose first yarn is extremely, with good descriptions, good characterization, and really evil people for villains. "I stayed up till 1:30 last night so I could finish it off. With a good book like this, I didn't want to miss anything." The only thing that I could find 'wrong' with this novel is that I couldn't help but feel as though I was I was reading a 2nd book of the screaes....There where many important parts of the novel such as Linden Rathan's history and his heroic deeds who made him who he is, that are referred to often and yet where in the past. Though Joanne does her best to explain his history. I as I said, couldn't help but feel that I missed the first novel.... Felt left out in a way. However this novel is another MUST read! *Laughs* There I was waiting for almost a full year for this novel to be published and I read it in a record breaking 3 days and have to wait for another year for the sequel! :-)

Summary: Some stock situations, good characters
Review: Bertin's *Last Dragonlord* has some stock situations; we know that the two lead characters will become romantic, but they are neither too sweet nor too obsteperous for belief. The villains, magic and court intrigue were interesting enough to hold my attention, and despite Sherrine's evil intentions, she emerges as both powerful and engaging; my favorite.

Bertin's strength lies in her descriptive powers and the way she uses dialogue to establish character. Now that we've gotten the romance out of the way, maybe we'll see a more interesting problem for the Dragonlords to solve. The whole conception and the world Bertin builds has real potential, especially for those who like to enter a pleasant world in which friendships and colorful locations are the main attraction. Pern counts as one of those places, and it has held up well. Let's hope Bertin's got the foundation for something similar. Not all fantasy need be dark.

Summary: This was the best book by a new author I have read in years.
Review: "The Last Dragonlord" is one of those rare books that completely draws you into the characters and the action and doesn't let you go until the last page. It reminded me a great of Anne McCaffrey's Pern - a world populated by dragons that you will want to visit again and again. Indeed, the worst thing I can say about it is that there is only one book so far - when I finished it I wanted to read more about Linden, Otter and the others.
