Rating: Summary: A Magic Carpet Ride ¿ Part I Review: This memorable love story is written with so much feeling that you immediately become a part of it. And we can thank the "literary lord of the west coast", Joseph Covino Jr,. for bringing this novel, "Arabian Nights Lost - Celestial Verses I" to our coffee tables and night stands. With his exceptional visual imagery and style of words, Joseph once again proves his literary gift for unparalleled imagination and pure escapism. "Arabian Nights" centers on the touching love affair between a Roman galley slave (Yusuf) and a young princess (Jamila). Along the way, we're also treated to other memorable characters such as King Freton, King Zahhak, and Bahram, all of whom add to the cohesiveness and completeness of the story. Unlike other tales of this period, here the author's writing style easily takes readers back in time and makes them feel they're a witness to a romantic adventure and the unforgotten Arabian nights. You feel as if you're there, you feel for many of the characters, and you feel (and realize) that this is definitely much more than a simple tale. Descriptive passages such as: "Brilliant beams of scintillate lapis lazuli light abruptly shot and suffused their way throughout the water as bubbles percolated boisterously upward" is just one example of how the words hook the reader's enthusiasm and attention. It's certainly an easy read, and it's certainly very easy to get involved with the story, its characters, and that period from long ago. Where are you Celestial Verses II? Come take me on another ride.
