Summary: Repetitive
Review: The "Dark" trilogy was great, and Mother of Winter, superb. But Icefalcon is just gore, witnessed first by Icefalcon, then again (like we didn't get it the first time) by Prince Tir. All in all a major disappointment. I sold my copy, which was more satisfying than reading it.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Barbara Hambly delivers once again in The Icefalcon' Quest.
Review: The best thing about Barbara Hambly, to me, is her flair for creating characters. The Icefalcon, who appeared periphally in the previous Darwath books, is revealed in detail in this action thriller. Most of the regular Darwath characters become peripheral instead, with two exceptions; but Hambly makes up for that with some marvelous new personalities. And, as usual, the hair-raising story kept my heart pounding as I read. Icefalcon Rules!

Summary: Get to know the Icefalcon like you never thought you could!
Review: This has a very different feel from the trilogy and suits the main character's personality and methodology perfectly. There is no sweetness in Icefalcon, no earth memories, no humor, but he is a wonderfully, completely developed character with whom I enjoyed spending my time. Far more to my liking than the vampire books, but to each their own. For me, a great and welcome read.

Summary: Edge-of-your-seat book. Suspensful, not predictable.
Review: This sequel doesn't have the intensity of the original three books, but it is definately worth reading. Although centered on the Icefalcon, it contains enough references to the main characters from the previous books to interest fans of this series. Both Hambley's expansion on the Icefalcon character and the new characters she introduces are well-handled, and the plot is a nice continuation of the Darwath timeline. Hopefully more books in this setting are in the works.

Summary: My favorite character has his own story!
Review: When I first began the Darwath series, I was immediately intrigued by the Icefalcon, a captain of the Guards in the Keep of Dare. Hambly drew his character from the beginning as both charismatic and enigmatic, and I was hooked. I was happy to find that she had devoted an entire book to him, explaining more about his background as a White Raider and how he views the world. Strange at first to see his point of view, after so long only knowing him through the eyes of Gil and Rudy, but by the end of the book I only liked him more. While you could read this book by itself apart from the series, it is a lot more interesting if you already know the characters involved. I hope we see a sixth book. . .
