Rating: Summary: Joshua a parable for today Review: I have read all the Joshua Books by Joesph F. Girzone and they are a must read for all ages. they are easy to read and make Jesus more real to us. When I was done reading this book and all the others,I was sad because I could not get enough. These books are life changing and they had reached people all over the world.
Rating: Summary: Not my idea of good reading. Review: This book offers an interesting supposition: that a Christ-like person appears on earth,in an ordinary neighborhood and begins a swift journey to the Vatican. He is a simple, intelligent man with a message, but is not recognized for his godliness by most of the people he encouters. It is a fairly written book, but did not appeal to me. There are better books about religion, if you want that. If you just want an interesting read, it's OK, but very simple, almost childlike.
Rating: Summary: A wonderful parable Review: A fantastic book that makes you think, "How would you treat christ if he came in you life today." It makes you think about time and your actions, and is the best fictional story I read in a long time.
Rating: Summary: A gentle introduction to Jesus Review: As a Jewish woman looking for the answers, this book was truly a God-send. I innocently picked it up in a bookstore and was captured by the man, Joshua. Even with my lack of knowledge of who Jesus really was, I realized half-way through the book who Joshua represented. What a wonderful introduction to Jesus! I met the Person! I was and still am captivated by HIM! I recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a personal relationship with God. You will meet this gentle, loving, wise, and joyful Savior and you will never again think of Jesus as religion. It changed my life. I am still Jewish, but I am a believer! Miracles do happen!
Rating: Summary: Joshua Review: What if Jesus came to your hometown? I easily found myself wondering what it would be like to live in Auburn when this amazing visitor, Joshua, came to spend some time. I read this book about 8 years ago and picked it up again in the aftermath of 9/ll. I just wanted to "visit" Joshua again and see how he would speak to me in these trying times. I am convinced more than ever that God is building his "church" one volunteer at a time. Though God can be found in a "steeple house" he is found in our hearts if we are sensitive to his calling. Joshua's simplicity was so refreshing. His patience and love of people was inspiring. The Spirit of God was beautifully depicted in this man and I herald Joseph Girzone for writing such a thought provoking and tempered story. Don't miss this one!! It's an easy read but produces complex thoughts. Read with an open mind and heart. You will be blessed. This is comfort food for your soul.
Rating: Summary: A Beautiful Story Review: I have just finished this book for the third time and still love this story as I did from the very first perusal. Father Girzone retells the story of Christ through Joshua, a young man who moves into a small town in New York State. Joshua lives a simple life, making friends easily and winning the hearts of the neighborhood children. Everyone loves Joshua but people are mystified by him, wanting to learn more but reluctant to pry. Joshua, fortunately, makes himself easily accessible and becomes very popular in town, calling the attention of the neighborhood churches. Joshua tells all who listen that they are free to love God and to worhsip in any way they wish and not to be bound by the strict laws of their churches. His message is taken to heart by many, but repudiated by those who cannot imagine life without religious structure. Joshua's lessons are either learned or rejected and like the Pharisees of old, he is reported to the "higher authority" for questioning. A chosen few are allowed to be witness to Joshua's real identity and for them, they will never be the same. "Joshua" is a beautiful story, written simply, but highly enjoyable. One can finish it in a day and then move on to the rest of Father Girzone's books involving Joshua.
Rating: Summary: quiet way to make sense of it all Review: I read this book years ago when I was in Catholic high school and at the time I didn't fully understand it. Recently, I came across this book and thought it would be a good read. The story of Joshua is a wonderful parable about the life of Jesus and how easy it can be for good people to lose track of the meaning of His life, His teachings, and why He died for us. It's easy to be overwhelmed by "religious" people who are closely adhering to rules and regulations. But this book teaches you the true spirit of Jesus... and is an awakening about our current society. As I read this book, I'm often brought to tears... it's a book that I have recommended to many. For anyone who has questioned religion and his/her part of it, and for those who think they know it all, this is a "MUST READ".
Rating: Summary: A positive awakening of faith Review: From the first page, reading this wonderful book, felt like comming home. It covers all the aspects of the teaching of Christ that we know but never truly looked at through Christ eyes. This book has brought myself and my family to a wondrful state of wonderment, when we just want to know so much more and review what we already knew, and has also given us so much hope, comfort and more than anything else a new perspective on life.
Rating: Summary: Two word summary: Good book. Review: This was a very good book to enjoy over the summer. It was a very quick read and a very comprehendable religous book. I really did enjoy this book and that's all I have to say about it. I highly reccomend it. (Even to athiests!)
Rating: Summary: The tears flowed Review: I found an unabridged audio tape at our local library to take listen to on a trip from Minneapolis, MN to Montgomery, AL. I didn't know what to expect, but I love listening to books while I drive & my wife sleeps before her turn at the wheel. As I listened I wondered what in the world this story was about. When I figured it out (somewhere between chapters 1 & 10) through the author's wonderful writing style and choice of words I was instantly reminded of the love that the Lord has for His children. Luckily I had a tissue handy, but one wasn't enough. I felt my soul sing as I drove and began to sing praises to the Lord and thank Him for the unending love only He can give us. What a wonderful writing. I truely recommend it for those who know the Lord closely, and to those that haven't had the joy of knowing Him yet.
