Rating: Summary: The second coming of Christ as a modern day tale. Review: I loved this book. It's one of my favorites right now. Reading Joshua made we want to be a better person. I would recommend this book to anyone. It really addresses a lot of religious issues and breaks down many denominational barriers.
Rating: Summary: Having an open mind is the way towards peace Review: This book is amazing. It is such a simple tale, but I firmly believe Jesus was a simple man. Joseph Girzone shows us how love, understanding and forgiveness are all one needs in life.
Rating: Summary: Christ has come again. Are we ready? Review: Would we accept Christ's love and admonitions if He returned to Earth? Would we recognize Him if we looked Him in the eye? Girzone does a nice job of portraying a present day community and their reaction to Joshua. Girzone makes you stop and think where we are today and where we need to head as we sit on the threshold of the new millenium.
Rating: Summary: A Light in the Darkness of Modern Media! Review: What a powerful book! It's so full of inspiration and truth that it would be impossible NOT to get something spiritual out of it. I would strongly suggest every person who has ever searched for something deeper in their life to read this book and let it move you. Its a breath of freash air to a struggling soul.
Rating: Summary: Interesting parable but lacks true insight. Review: I am a student of all religions and my views are based on what I have learned. I found this story to have two very large weaknesses. The first was the occasion of the barbacue. This book does not show Joshua to be truly respectful to other lifeforms. Most of the truly spiritual people that I am aware of will not take a life in order to eat. Others will take a life, but will eat the meat with great respect and honor. I feel that the author does not show due respect to other life on earth. The second issue that I was VERY upset as is Joshua's portrayal of illness as a punishment of God. To me, this is a terrible way to think, perhaps even evil. I cannot comprehend how others would overlook this weakness. Am I off base here?? I also felt that Joshua was trying to separate the community rather than to try bring unity to the community. When a religous leader seperates the community into those that follow me are good and those that don't are bad, my first thought is that of a cult. Joshua did seem to play off weak people in a manner conducive to a cult leader. All in all, I thought the book was interesting, though shallow and lacking of true depth and insight
Rating: Summary: A book which makes you think ... Review: This book is well-written and makes the reader think. I found myself thinking back to how it must have been 2000 years ago when Jesus first appeared to the people of Israel. In this regard it gave me new perspective on what I have read in the gospels. The character of Joshua also made me rethink my image of Jesus and God. This is an inspiring book for someone who is open to the message of Jesus, and probably an interesting book to those who are exploring their faith. I would highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: THIS BOOK ROBS CHRIST OF HIS DIETY. Review: Joshua is a poor substitute of someone who is suposed to represent Christ. He never proclaimes the way of salvation to a group of orthodox Jews or to anyone else. He tries to never admit he preformed a miracle. He never claimes to be the son of God. This book crosses over to herecy when it refuses to proclaim who Joshua (Christ) really is.
Rating: Summary: Great for anyone experiencing a spiritual crisis. Review: In this day and age when it is hard to believe this book offers inspiration.
Rating: Summary: Bravo, Joseph Girzone Review: Joshua is an excellent book! Among many things, this book extremely simple to understand. If Jesus were here, would we know it? How did we become so opinionated in our Christianity? Are we really "loving our neighbors"? Many questions popped into my mind after reading the book, along with many answers. It changed the way I looked on life and the way I understand Jesus. Aside from a few "surly" words and a few things I don't think our Lord would do if he were here(such as have a romantic relationship), this book is superb!
Rating: Summary: Excellent! A wonderful reminder that God is with us always. Review: Parables of the Bible told in story format through the life of Joshua, a newcomer to town. Within the first three chapters one can assume who Joshua really is. Despite knowing this, the reader is still held attentive to the story, knowing that it is written to parallel the life of Jesus, but in a semi-modern day format. The time period of the story is never really told, however it can take place at any point in time during this century. This reader recomends it highly to all, believers and non-believers alike.
