Rating: Summary: Conqueror's Pride is Fantastic.. the others are very weak! Review: I read this trilogy, and found the first novel to be pretty solid and held my interest.. however, the second novel in the series began to weaken as the author struggled with the alien culture and let us almost forget about the humans out there. The third novel redeemed itself only slightly in that as I completed the last page I was SOOO glad it was over. Just avoid getting involved.. His Star Wars books are infinitely better.
Rating: Summary: A very interesting book; complex and intriguing. Review: I think this book is a very interesting look into a possible future of mankind. It is a very coplex and intriguing book, and I read the whole thing two days (I stayed up late reading it :), and as I said, it is a very good read. Also I would encourage you to read the other two books in this series, as well as, if you can get your hands on a copy, the book 'Cobras Two', or in fact, the other books which it contains; 'Cobra Strike' 'Cobra Deal' and 'Cobra'. They are all very good books.
Rating: Summary: Electrifying Review: In this book you get a mix of wild plots and excellent battle scenes. It also has billions of new and different type of technologies. This book is one of the best Sci-Fi thrillers I have ever read!
Rating: Summary: Boring!!!!!!! Review: Jeez, this book moved so slow that I actually fell asleep while reading it. I've generally liked Zahn's books before, but this one was simply not one of them. I shudder to think what the rest of the series is like.
Rating: Summary: Zahn is freed from his Star Wars constraints Review: Let's put it this way, this book allows Zahn a freedom that he didn't have with the Star Wars books he wrote in the early nineties. Those books, though several people will disagree, forced Zahn to constrain his talents and story elements to have that "Star Wars" feel. Conquerors' Pride is a totally different story, however, literally. Zahn goes everywhere with this book, and the two books that follow it up are equally powerful and imaginative. This book is an amazing work of science-fiction and shouldn't be missed. This is the real Timothy Zahn, it's a shame that these books aren't recognized as the works of art that they truly are, probably because they don't have "Star Wars" on the front of them.
Rating: Summary: Not Zahn's finest moment, but still readable Review: My first exposure to the writing of Timothy Zahn was his collection of Star Wars novels, which I was considerably impressed by. To this date, his are the only Star Wars books I have read multiple times. Naturally, I was eager to sample his work outside the realm of Star Wars.Enter the Conquerors Trilogy. The crux of the plot centers around the humans contacting a new race of aliens with superior military strength that could very well bring about the destruction of the human race. Some of the subplots include a doomsday weapon which the humans must decide whether or not to use, the barriers the humans must overcome to communicate with the aliens, various political conspiracies and cover-ups, and a plethora of battle scenes. Sound like about ten sci-fi novels you've already read? It should, and this is where the entire Conquerors Trilogy becomes problematic. While ostensibly it is well written, it doesn't give us anything we haven't seen numerous times before. Overall, I found Zahn's plot devices and characters rather lackluster, and even cliched at times. Still, Zahn has a talent for telling a story with multi-faceted plots while keeping the pacing steady, and the Conquerors Trilogy is no exception. But it could have been so much more. So if you haven't been down the "alien invasion" road before, or wouldn't mind going down it again, you may find Conquerors' Pride an enjoyable read. But with so many other (and often better) sci-fi novels out there....
Rating: Summary: Zahn is God Review: Refresh from his awesome STAR WARS trilogy, Zahn has launched the reader into a new space-age adventure that is part Star Wars, part Babylon 5, and thoroughly enjoyable!
Rating: Summary: Epic space adventure at its best! Review: The first in the three part Conqueror's Trilogy, Conqueror's Pride introduces a rich new universe of characters, locations and technology for the reader to explore.
This is definitely one of my all time favourite science fiction stories...It has everything you come to expect from Timothy Zahn, complex and intriguing characters, a fast paced, twisting plot and fantastic action and suspense...For those who have yet to read anything by Timothy Zahn, you will find him and his absolute best here...
Rating: Summary: Good sci-fi and human drama Review: The story line was well thought out and put together. While it can be a bit confusing at the beginning, the various races and personalities start to come together and make sense a short way into the book. My only complaint about book 1 is that it sort of "ends" in the middle of a thought! A cruel way to get the reader to go on to Book 2.
Rating: Summary: The Conqueror's Trilogy Review: This being the first of three books in the Conqueror's trilogy, it introduces a whole new group of characters. The development of the characters is quite good, you get to know enough of the history to get up to speed on this view of the universe. While the ending of the trilogy was rather anitclimatic, there is enough action, alien descriptions, family values (the Cavanaugh's are almost "Cleaver" in their stick-togetherness) and suspense to keep the reader interested through all three books. This book should not be confused with his "Star Wars" story lines, it is completely different, but very readable. Book two, in particular, is quite good, taking the same story from book one and putting it in the view of the "villain". It is full of suprising twists, and one can use the metaphor to view our current friend/foe constructs in American life. Highly recommended.
