Summary: A little scattered, but worth a close look.
Review: _Steel Beach_ can be a little scattered, but if one is willing to look between the lines I believe he has some interesting things to say about our society. Varley has a unique way of writing women characters- stong, passionate, independent, complete with historical context that helps us understand the person they have become. His gender definitions are more fluid that most, which results in characters that have depth and intersting tapestries of life. _Steel Beach_ is a detailed example of this perspective. While the plot line jumps sporadically, meaningful messages are appreciated by this reader.
