Rating: Summary: Excellent Sequel! Review: This book is definately a very worthy sequel to the first one. It pulled me right back in and wrapped me up in the story.Elizabeth Kerner's writing is some of the best I have read. Ever. Inclusive of Tolkien. Her books have earned a place of honor on my shelves, and I frequently pull them out to read my favorite bits over again. Only one thing about this book bothered. And that was that it ended. I would gladly have kept reading for another 500 pages if they'd been there. But now I have to wait for the third book! Anyway. This book is worthy of anyone's time, and should be on all your shelves, right next to the first one.
Rating: Summary: The Lesser Kindred Review: This book is good and very realistic, but it has some major faults. First off it makes the reader sit through 50 pages of redundant wedding bliss. It seems that Lanen is too happy and the world too perfect. What i'm trying to say is that it is to good to be true. When the story finally gets going, Kerner spends more time talking about Berys and Marek thans does with Lanen and Varien. That information about the antagonists may become crucail later but it's definetly not crucial now. The Lesser Kindred is one of those books you read once and never revisit.
Rating: Summary: A Great Book! Review: This book is probably the best sequel I've EVER read! It is right up there with Tamora Pierce and Piers Anthony's books! I was totally amazed that someone could write such a sequel! The only problem is the ending... it's such a cliffhanger! I simply cannot wait for the next book to come out (there'd better be a next book!). Any fantasy should read this! (and the first one, of course).
Rating: Summary: How long do we wait? Review: This is a continuation of what we now know is a trilogy (Song in the Silence is the first book, which you really do need to read first). The book is a little slow at the beginning, but so was the first one ... it builds up quickly, though, and we learn a lot more about dragons, soulgems, healers, and the demon network. We meet a couple new characters who are obviously going to be pivotal in the third book ... and learn about the Lesser Kindred, too. All in all, a graceful continuation of the story begun in Song in the Silence - and as others have noted, it ends with an incredible cliffhanger!! The next book must be coming out soon, I hope?? I don't know how much longer I can wait!!
Rating: Summary: A very good effort for a sequal! Review: This is definately worth the read if you enjoyed "Song in the Silence" also by Elizbeth Kerner. It is greatly suggested that you read "Song in the Silence" first! While the pace of this book is a bit slower, than the first book in the series, it is definately worth the read. Lanen and her husband are on the run, this time its humans and demons that are the danger rather than dragons. Yet there is exciting things happending to both the greater and lesser kindred as well!! Definately a very decent connecting book, between the first book and the 3rd farther on into the series! A very enjoyable read!
Rating: Summary: Good, but it seemed to be missing something Review: This, the sequel to Song in the Silence, was not quite as good as the first. I know most people liked it just as well, and in most ways I would have to agree. The characters were as well written and diverse. The writting style was just as wonderful, giving us a chance to look through the eyes of many of the different characters. The tempo was good, even though it was a little slow at the beginning. The problems for me were with the story itself. The solution to the problem of the lesser kindred seemed to easy, too much a chance discovery. It didn't have quite the same flow as the first book, and to me it just wasn't as interesting. Now, that's not to say this wasn't a good book. It was very good, and well worth reading, but I just didn't enjoy it as much as the first. But don't let me stop you from reading it. Any fantasy lover should give this series a try.

Rating: Summary: So it goes on... Review: Well, I was not expecting this to be a trilogy. To say the least I was a little disapionted. I loved Song of the Silence so I was thrilled to get the next book. Lesser Kindred started slow but got more interesting and more emotional than the first but it dragged on a bit and I found myself skipping through a few pages to get to the more 'interesting' parts. The end for me was a big dissapiontment becuase I thought it would end there but no, it went on and I was left in shock until I realized I would have to wait and then get the third book which left me a bit peeved. You get so wrapped up in a book like this you can't quit grasp that there isn't anymore when it ends so ubrutly. All in all it was a good book but I can't help but feel it stepped down a knotch from the first. Hopefully the third book will blow our minds and make the whole trilogy fantastic. I still do recommend this book to anyone who likes dragons and fantasy.
Rating: Summary: Do not buy this book w/o the sequel Review: While the first book (Song in the Silence) had a satisfying conclusion w/ just enough loose ends to make the TOR marketing department happy, The Lesser Kindred might as well have ended mid sentence. "Book" is too long a work to describe it, I would call it a "bo" and can only assume the "ok" will come in Redeeming the Lost. Of course, as of 2/20/05, it is only available in hardcover and I refuse to reward TOR w/ my $17.65 for such a blatant disregard of the reader.
If, however, you are reading this once all the books are available in paperback... together they form a light story w/ an interesting take on dragons, people and demons. If I had been able to get Redeeming the Lost right away (in paperback) I probably wouldn't have been as irritaed by the format and would go on to read the rest of the story b/c it has been fun so far.
