Rating: Summary: Don't read this book if you are faint of heart Review: This is an exceptionally enlightening book, not just about the most ethically challenged administration in the history of this country, but also about the political, legal and historical context of the process of impeachment itself. It is quite an eye-opener when we read about some of the impeachees of the past and what little thay had to do wrong to be ousted and contrast them with the overwhelming pattern of abuse perpetrated by Clinton which we are supposed to excuse. Coulter makes a very reasoned case of the appalling realities about Clixon. Whether you support or oppose him, the evidence against him is irrefutable. Coulter has exposed a scary side of this administration and offered the constitutional cure.
Rating: Summary: Very readable and compelling Review: Interesting that all the negative reviewers make it clear they dislike anyone who criticizes the president. I thought her arguments were compelling. Especially telling was the section where she compares Clinton's felonies to the 'crimes' of Richard Nixon. No contest - and any American who believes Nixon was truly bad for the country must hold Clinton to this same standard. And they must also conclude that Clinton has done far more damage to America. Look at the facts, and read it with an open mind. Four stars because it is brilliant but could have benefitted from some tighter editing. In my opinion it doesn't detract from the central case, and many books written on topical issues are hurriedly done.
Rating: Summary: Ann has answered all the questions of costitutionality. Review: This book is interesting and provides the common reader with the knowledge to argue with Clinton supporters who are unwilling to open their eyes to the travesties that occurred in the White House; furthermore it clearly shows that the president should be held liable for his illegal actions. Ann Coulter, I am glad someone in this world feels as much pain as I do and support you 100%. I studied Constitututional Law in college, and can find nowhere that a President who lied to a Federal Grand Jury shouldn't be impeached. If it was one of us committing those acts, we would have been incarcerated. Everyone, including and especially the president are subjects to the constitution. Thank you Ann Coulter for writing this book
Rating: Summary: Excellent examination of Impeachment & Clinton's problems Review: An excellent summation of the proper role of Impeachment in the American constitutional republic and an excellend indictment of the impeachable crimes of William Jefferson Clinton. Far too many reviewers I've seen here have tried to make a connection between the constitutional process of impeachment and a judicial proceeding when there is no connection. Impeachment, a Ms. Coulter correctly points out, is a political process. The only possible punishment that can result from a conviction as a result of impeachment is removal from office and a bar against holding any office of trust under the United States. This does not stop later criminal prosecution (or criminal prosecution prior to impeachment as has been carried out against several federal judges), but it does cleanse the political process of a blemish on the body politic. One particular point that Ann Coulter points out in her book is that private misbehavior is an impeachable offense as the Founding Fathers saw it. This is a position I have held during this entire Clinton ordeal. What a ridiculous idea that somehow the American public expects to have a liar and adulterer in the Oval Office and still expect him to make wise and correct decisions? Only an immoral public could come to such a conclusion. An excellent treatise. Well written and well documented. A must read for all Americans who believe that there should be accountibility in our public officials.
Rating: Summary: A Factual and Bold Read Review: I read this brilliant work for a term paper and was burdened by the inescapable truth it discloses. Coulter, with great conscience and ability, disseminates the untold truth of the real nature of the phrase "high Crimes and Misdemeanors" and the unequivocal intentions of our Founding Fathers that it be the minimal standard by which we measure our leaders. Let's stop for a moment and consider the consequences of the type of moral relativism that is being so despicably spread across this great land. Do we really want to have the president be immune to following the laws of our nation, simply virtue of his title. Coulter plainly states why that is ridiculous. She vividly describes America's heritage as a nation that places a higher value on morality and the rule of law than does your run of the mill autocracy. If you are thinking to yourself that Coulter (as an obviously unashamed conservative) would be decrying such an "invasive" investigation if this were a Republican president, you obviously do not understand the nature of conservatism. If this were a Republican president you would see some partyliners who would do so, but the overwhelming majority of conservative Republicans would be embarrassed and ashamed of him and without hesitation would be pressing for his resignation. This book is not about politics. It is about the standard of law being esteemed more highly than a particular president's current popularity. I highly recommend that you read this book, because it will threaten any misguided emotional assumptions of the nature of law and our president's bold disregard for it. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Be sure to read James Carville's And the Horse He Rode In On Review: I read it because I am anything BUT from the "right." I tend to be liberal to moderate in my beliefs. While Ann Coulter presents compelling arguments against President Clinton in this book, I was very turned off by her triteness. If she truly wanted me to turn to her side, to even take up her cause, she should have written a book that covers the facts without adding in all of the snide comments. They detracted from her message over & over again (for me). Her arguments, again, compelling, but I have to ask this: why, after four years & $40 million+ spent, did Kenneth Starr turn over to Congress his Starr Report with absolutely NO mention of "Travelgate," "Filegate," and two mentionings of "Whitewater"? It seems to me that if things were even an iota as bad as Ann Coulter paints them to be, the issue would not be on sex & President Clinton lying--but on issues that shake the very core of our country. As it is, I immediately read James Carville's And the Horse He Rode In On after reading Coulter's book. By all means, read this book--especially if you become outraged by Coulter's accounting. It balances things--puts things into perspective. And whatever you do, take both books with a huge grain of salt ... keep your minds open.
Rating: Summary: Completely partisan and illogical Review: The book was very poorly written and can only appeal to those who have long since made up thier minds about the issue and want to read something that confirms their worst beliefs about Clinton. It will not shed any useful light on the subject for those looking for a reasoned argument. Her vitriol comes through on almost every page and, therefore her book is of little value accept as grist for the "true believers."
Rating: Summary: A straightforward easy read that follows its title. Review: I would have liked to give this 4 1/2 stars instead of 5 as the editors could have taken another stab at it and improved things. However it is nowhere near as partisan as the persons who ranked it very low state. It is a case against Clinton so I never expected her to sing his praises. Still for the most part it sticks to the facts and is fairly well documented. The 'case' is readable, which it would not be if it were as legalistic as some of the lawyers seem to want. She usually states when something is denied by Bill, Hillory, Blumenthal et al. Still her focus is the 'case' against, not for Clinton. All in all I found it readable and informative.
Rating: Summary: Coulter's book ain't bad Review: Her book lays out a seemingly logical argument for impeachment. I found her book incredibly enlightening. The book is helpful in the sense that it categorically lays out the Clinton scandals and the basis for impeachment including a pretty good historical perspective.
Rating: Summary: I'm only 14yrs old, I read her book, it's wonderful! Review: I'm 14yrs old, I read her book, I think it is wonderful. It is informative and easy to understand, it is not a bit boring, like some things can be when you get to the nitty gritty. I think everyone should read it, Clinton protesters and Clinton supporters.
