Summary: Terrific novel!
Review: This book is definately the one to read for anyone who is bothinterested in science fiction and involved in fandom to any extent. The future projected by the authors is frightening in its possibilities - the more so because, like most science fiction, it IS possible. However, it also says a lot about the fan community, and the way fans will stick together and help each other out when it's needed. It is apparent that the authors really know fandom; it's refreshing to see the fan community portrayed as intelligent, supportive individuals with minds of their own, rather than introverted, stamped-out-of-the-same-mold geeks with no life outside of sci-fi! I highly recommend this book.

Summary: Glaciers as far as Milwaukee and Luddites in DC!?!
Review: This book is lots of fun! Finding out the state of our fair land is as much fun as following the plot. And I'm sure if you're from fandom, the inside references make Fallen Angels even more of a joy! Word on the Net is that certain characters are based on real people, and are included in this book as the prize for some sort of contest. Boy, THAT would have been some contest to win! By virtue of this, there is a bit of the "why is this character here?" going on, but the quality of Niven's story-telling makes this slight problem worth it. The writing is better than it has been in a lot of his recent works. There is a lot of traditional Niven here, including a nifty theory about the next ice age being precipitated by a sharp decrease in burning of fossil fuels! It seems the greenhouse effect was all that was holding the glaciers back! Overall a good read and a recommended buy!

Summary: Yes, it is a joke
Review: This is one of these books where the key is not to take it too seriously, just go along for the ride and enjoy it! Yes, the Greens are the bad guys and no that's not normal, but it wouldn't be any fun if nobody ever took the opposite side of an issue. It's a chance to just think "what if?" and especially revel in the descriptions of the cons and the strange people and situations they run into on the way - this is a very funny book if you don't take it so seriously. I have been a fan of Larry Niven's for years and I think this is probably the book of his I reread most often.

Summary: Entertaining novel written for the fans.
Review: This novel is written as if Niven and company took suggestions from fans on what they would do in a "what if" situation. The authors then filled in the center with a tasty center.

Light novel that is great for the fan who has been to just one or two sci fi conventions.
