Rating: Summary: Survival of the fittest? Review: A UFO book that doesn't hesitate to scare the reader. The Threat isn't about benevolent "space brothers" or the like, but about self-serving, secretive aliens who abduct people against their will. The aliens, according to Dr. Jacobs, are engaged in a selective breeding program to produce alien/human hybrids, hybrids that will eventually be so human-like that we won't be able to tell the difference. Further, Dr. Jacobs believes that the aliens are planning to infiltrate our society, for reasons as yet unknown, but sinister in their appearance. Hence, the title of the book.If you consider yourself a serious student of UFO-ology, then I strongly recommend this book, otherwise you're not getting the whole picture.
Rating: Summary: The time may be near... Review: Anyone who has done serious research into the UFO phenomenon will realize that not only are Dr. Jacob's conclusions possible, they are absolutely reasonable. No absolutes here, just that these are reasonable conclusions from a man who has done years of quality research. Yes, I agree that Jacobs ends this book with what I think is a quite pathetic surrender, but his conclusions cannot be denied. It is time for us who have seen glimpse of the truth to realize that we DO have a say in how this occurs, and it is time to prepare. The recent drastic weather changes must provide urgency. Send me an e-mail, and let's prepare for the greater community, of which the Grey's are only one influence.
Rating: Summary: A book by which future research can be based Review: As having read through several decades of UFO research, I have to harbor reservations no matter how convincingly a researcher puts forth his hypothesis. Jacobs has used at least as large a sampling (if not larger) than anyone else in trying to make sense of one of the oddest facets of the UFO phenomenon. Up to this point, we have had many alien abduction accounts that appear on one hand to be comparitively understandable (Betty and Barny Hill) to unfathomable (like Betty Andreasson). Jacobs' wide sampling has allowed him to see many of the subtleties in the various accounts and how they may in fact add up to a coherent (if disturbing) picture. I must admit that, try as I might to resist his hypothesis, it was among the most fully researched I've come across. He also presented himself in a logical and cohesive manner. He anticipated certain arguments and addressed them. My only reservation is that (like others before him) he might have come across areas of the abduction phenomenon that he couldn't make sense of, or didn't fit into his overall picture and thus disregarded them. If so, he might be just the next step in trying to explain this seemingly unexplainable curiosity. However, the fact remains that this is a well researched and well presented piece and will stand as a milestone by which other researchers and investigators can get us close to solving this oddity.
Rating: Summary: book not what it is cracked up to be Review: Book is poorly written and does not offer facts to back up any claims by the author.
Rating: Summary: Fascinating and well-written Review: Certainly a fascinating tale, although I have no clue if it's anything more than a bizarre piece of fiction. If it is a piece of fiction or delusion, the author certainly has one heck of an imagination, and a twisted interest in s/m sex with aliens. The book is quite well-written and proofread, certainly better than most books in this genre. The author claims to be very neutral during his hypnosis sessions, but reading the transcripts in the book, it appears that he is definitely trying to lead his subjects into certain areas. For example, he will ask a leading question like "You mean they are doing x". It's worth noting that many times the subject disagrees with where he is leading and they offer their own explanations. And my main beef with the book is that the conclusion of a dark "threat" is drawn at the very end, with only limited evidence to support it. I think, frankly, he added that title to make the book more sensational and outrageous. The evidence supporting a "threat" is not overwhelming.
Rating: Summary: Mandatory Reading for Everyone Review: David Jacobs in his book "The Threat" is the first author to uncover the aliens ultimate objectives and systematic plan in achieving them. This is a must read not only for UFO researchers, but for every person on earth. Jacobs is a talented and meticulous researcher (and more importantly qualified/unbiased hypnotist) who pieces together the data from abductees about the ET's objectives. Another good book about UFO's/Aliens is by Linda Moulton Howe "High Strangeness".
Rating: Summary: Colonization? Review: Did not the Spanish Conquistadors invade and inhabit new lands around the world by "intermarrying" with the local populace thereby creating a hybrid? Obvious examples are current day Mexicans and Filipinos. Does not the coming together of two completely separate and formerly-isolated genes produce an offspring of a stouter and more viable variety to combat threats (mostly microscopic) within its environment? There seems to me to be two ways to conquer: vanquish or assimilate. Which one do the aliens seem to be doing?
Rating: Summary: 5 stars for a spine chilling story Review: Different cultures in the past have had less difficulty dealing with the reality of other intelligent life in the universe, but ours has just lately discovered the possibility and the experience is rather traumatic. We rub our eyes in wonder, we shudder in fear and loathing, and we are fascinated, nay, hypnotised by the insuperable power of beings more advanced than ourselves, so much so that we entirely forget ourselves, which is very easy to do since we know ourselves so slightly to begin with! A bit of advice to the readers of this book: there are more aliens interacting with our global culture than these "greys". A veritable alien invasion has been going on since the end of ww2, the greys capturing the spolight for their "hands on" approach, while other interactions are not recognized as such. One type of alien contact is the antidote to the other, unpleasant type. The type I refer to is a direct effort to instruct us in the nature of our own being and its power. We do not use the power we have, do not even know the power we have because we look for that power where it does not exist, as Jacobs does, as Phillip Corso does. The power that each one of us possesses is unbelievable, more unbelievable than alien abductions! And it confers immunity to those who have the courage and will to believe in themselves.
Rating: Summary: Jacobs is probably right Review: Dr Jacobs has written a profoundly disturbing work. Based on over thirty years of careful, academic research and over seven hundred hypnotic inductions with purported abductees, 'The Threat' is a book that must be taken seriously. Given the author's careful methodology, it is impossible for us to dismiss the hundreds of memories he elicited under hypnosis as mere confabulations. His careful discussion of the false memory syndrome points out that: 1. Abductees remember recent experiences, not just childhood events. 2 Abductees often have indirect corroboration of events. 3.Abductees frequently recall events without the aid of a hypnotist. 4.Abductees are often found to be physically missing during the reported abduction. 5. About twenty percent of abductions include two or more people who see each other during the event. 6. Unlike victims of FMS, abductees seldom experience disintegration of their personal lives after they become aware of what has occurred. We must therefore conclude that most elicited memories of abductions correspond to real events. Hence about two percent of the world's population is taking an involuntary part in a vast alien breeding program, designed to produce alien-human hybrids, which is now close to completion. These hybrids, Dr Jacobs argues cogently, are destined to replace us in the very near future. While some of the abductees themselves may be kept, like zoo animals, to provide breeding stock, the rest of humanity would appear to be completely dispensable. This scenario, closer to the TV series 'V' than to 'Independence Day' is one which few Ufologists have been willing to consider seriously, because of its terrifying nature, though my own research also drove me to this conclusion some years ago. Given that we have no defenses against the aliens, this book might well have been entitled 'The End of Humanity'. It is safe to say, unfortunately, that cognitiive dissonance will prevent all but a handful of us from taking Dr Jacobs' thesis seriously. 'Unconscious of their doom, the little victims play'. In spite of the ravages we have inflicted upon the planet and each other, I find this thought every bit as disquieting as this nightmarish book.
Rating: Summary: Take Heed Review: Dr. Jacobs' thesis is extraordinary and chilling. According to "The Threat", aliens and their hybrid offspring are in the final stage of a genetic infiltration of humanity and will take over Earth after a soon-to-occur catastrophic event. And most horrifyingly, there appears to be nothing whatever we can to to prevent it. I've never seen a UFO and have generally regarded abduction reports as inherently incredible, but Dr. Jacobs has presented a well-researched and well-written book that must be read - and heeded. Although Dr. Jacobs knows that his theory will not be taken seriously and therefore believes it is too late to reverse The Threat, I cannot concur. If enough people do take heed, there may still be time to halt the apparently inveitable.
