Summary: I didn't get it.
Review: I got myself through this book, only because I kept thinking the next page would draw me in. But it never did. Nothing flowed very well, and about the only thing that really held my interest were the essays by the authors at the end.

But try as I might, I simply could not envision the inside of this Sphere or what was happening to it, and the story narrative did nothing to help, nevermind the stilted, choppy dialogue.

And Scotty, where the heck was Scotty??!!! Too many mentions of his poor ship, but no sign of my favorite engineer. I didn't check the timeline, so I don't know if he was already with the Starfleet Corps of Engineers by the time this book was written, but maybe not. Doesn't matter, he should have been part of this story. Heck, the S.C.E. should have been here, not the Enterprise!

If you ask me, the only characters with any depth at all were made of rock. Better you simply watch the TNG episode, "Relics," and be done with it.

Summary: Not a good read.
Review: I have observed that when I give a product a poor review, I tend to get dinged on my review. However, this is an attempt to do you all a favor and I strongly recommend that another trek title be purchased as this was just a waste of time for me. I echo others who thought this was simply "very poor trek material".

So with that in mind, please do yourselves a favor and don't read this poor excuse of a trek novel.

Summary: Just trying to save eager trek readers some undue pain

Summary: Glad I didn't pay for it.(ADDENDUM BELOW)
Review: I have read a number of Star Trek:TNG novles and this was the latest I've read. I was glad when I finished that I checked it out at the library rather than buying it, I would have been upset at the wasted money.

For starters the charachters are not well developed at all, even for charachters who we all know from watching the TV series and reading the other books avalible. They also make decisions and handle events in a way that just doesn't seem quite right. They start making conclusions as to the makers of the sphere and start talking about the Borg with very little and shaky evidence to come to that conclusion. Next, for something with SO MUCH potential as the subject matter, the incridible expanse of the Dyson's Sphere, it could have been much better. It wasn't a very 'beliveable' plot(even considering that Star Trek is all made up anyway) and I found the ending rather dissapointing.

I'd reccomend any of the books by Peter David in the ST:TNG series, they're all good to excellent in quality and much better to read.

ADDENDUM: It's been several months since I wrote this review, but I felt I must add this note even though it will cost me a positive vote from the previous review. I have recently read 'Ringworld' and will soon read it's sequal. There are so many aspects of 'Dyson Sphere' which are such a ... of Ringworld and it's sequal, only set to a Star Trek TNG theme. My already low opinion of this book dropped further after reading these other books which preceded this one by a number of years. Forget 'Dyson's Spere' read 'Ringworld' and it's sequals for a better story instead.

Summary: A great Star Trek Adventure
Review: I liked this book a lot as it had the real feel of what Star Trek is all about... This was an exciting adventure as it led to the further exploration of the mysterious Dyson Sphere.. Dyson Sphere is an unknown construct of very advanced technological proportions that is left deserted by its creators... The Enterprise along with a group of Horta Scientists (Silicon Rock creatures from the original star trek show that are long lived) are sent to explore and possibly unlock the Dyson Sphere's secrets...This book had a real feel of awe and mystery that makes for good science fiction.. Dyson Sphere has been a construct that has been thought of theoretically today but not to the great extent and standards used in this book... An object so large as to encircle a sun is mind shattering to say the least... That is what is so exciting about this novel... The writer takes us into this mammoth object where the reader finds danger and mystery lurking everywhere...I also like how the authors left the Dyson Sphere remain a mystery at the conclusion of this book... After all if we still have mysteries on Earth today such as "The Pyramids" or "The Bermuda triangle" why can't the same be said for Dyson's Sphere... The only drawback I can say with this book is that I felt it should have included Mr. Scott... After all in the sttng TV episode he was the person that made the discovery of Dyson Sphere known and he also lost his space ship in saving the crew of the Enterprise...You would also think that because he is an engineer and the Dyson Sphere being a technological mystery of such exorbitant proportions he would be the first person to sign up for the Dyson Sphere research project...

Summary: It was ok but it needed more action!
Review: I think that the book did need more action I think that would be one of the things someone would tell me after they read this book, but I have to say the idea of them going to the Dyson Sphere and trying to figure out if the BORG really built this hudge Sphere in space is cool! In general I think the characters made the story worth reading.

Summary: Not a good read.
Review: I was bored by the first couple of chapters of this book, but I read on, curious to see what would happen. Eventually, I got too bored and put the book down because I have better things to read. Don't be fooled by the title, this book is boring.

Summary: too much science & not enough plot
Review: I was truly disappointed in Dyson Sphere. There was much too much "science" and not enough fiction. It could have been any generic crew rather than Picard, Riker, Troi, etc. I much prefer novels about interactions with other cultures. Picard aside, the other characters were hardly used. I did not find the Horta to be particularly appealing protagonists either. This was a rare disappointment in the Star Trek series.

Summary: Not quite there
Review: I'm not a huge fan of the Star Trek novels, but I am a huge Pellegrino fan. Everything of his I have read before has been gold - this book just falls flat. There is something in the style and presentation that seems like it was "dumbed down" from his usual fare. The ending is also somewhat anti-climatic, but I think the plan was to leave some options open for the future. There is also too many referances to Pellegrino's past works - they seem forced. All in all this book seems rushed and misses the mark.
