Rating: Summary: A disapointment Review: I really the series, but I think that it should have ended with "She is the Darkness," uless the next book, or series, or whatever he decides to make it, is very good. After reading "She is the Darkness" I was eager to read the next and couldn't wait for it to be relaeased. After reading "Water Sleeps," I think I may wait for the next book to be released in paper back before I buy it.
Rating: Summary: One that does not disappoint Review: I was not sure about this book, all the characters that I had grown to love and keep up with during the Series, I thought that it would go down hill with the loss of those them.Amazingly, the story continues with new characters developing instead them be the same characters being rehashed with a different name. A lot of loose ends are tied up that left me hanging from the previous book 'She is the Darkness' and I was still waiting for more adventures to come out. I cannot wait to the next book.
Rating: Summary: Jewel In The Glittering Plain Review: I was starting to get disapointed in the glittering stone series, until this book came out to me glen cook reinvent, and breath new life into the black company saga. I have enjoyed this book so much I have read it TWICE! Sleepy brings a new spin in the tail as a outstanding non stereotypical female heroin. Plus with the returning old standbys of one-eye and goblin it makes it an enjoyable book through and through.

Rating: Summary: Nicely developed, but two questions remain ... Review: I've always wondered what the stellae were and why Lady didn't distribute Soul Catcher's name (or why Murgen didn't travel in time to the place Lady and Croaker used the arrows with her name on them) ... Those questions still aren't answered. Everything else is. Better, the set up for the next series of novels is smoothly made. All in all, excellent work.
Rating: Summary: Cook Got Bored Review: I've loved the series since book one, but the last three seem to belong to a different series. This book seems to exist primarily to finish the series and answer the questions. Not much actually happens and the ending is just rather odd. All th e old characters are gone and I, for one, rather miss them. On the whole, I'd suggest reading this for the answers but don't expect too much.
Rating: Summary: Water Sleeps, and the Black Company Evolves Review: It's difficult for me to write an objective review of 'Water Sleeps,' as I count myself as a true fan of Cook's works. So I won't really try. This is an extremely well-written addition to the Chronicals of the Black Company. Cook's writing talents are obvious as he once again slips into the mantle of a new Annalist, a new storyteller of the wayward mercenary band. Sleepy, now the de facto commander of the remnants of the Black Company, leads the reader thru the awakening of the band after 15 years underground. From guerilla warfare against the hated Company foe Soulcatcher to the rescue attempt of the captured, Cook's sardonic wit shines through Sleepy's recountings. Secrets are revealed, sacrifices are made, and Cook continues to let the Company evolve - brothers die, and new characters take their place. And of course, there are surprises like . . .. well, read the book. Those who have read the previous books will be able to jump in - those who are new should probably start at the beginning, with The Black Company. And I envy you for the reading that awaits you.
Rating: Summary: Cook still has it, this is one of the best "annals" Review: NO SPOILERS - I don't want to ruin the read for anyone coming after me. I don't usually take the time to do something like this, but Glen Cook has given me so much enjoyment over the years with The Black Company series of books that I thought I would recommend them to anyone who likes the "sword and sorcery" genre. (But I will warn you that some strong language is included in the read). I have found that of all the various stories I've read, from Tolkien to Zelazny, Glen Cook's Black Company series is the one that I can read over and over and still get enjoyment from. He is original in his approach, thorough in the world he has made, and clever in his storytelling - quite possibly one of the most under-rated authors on the scene. Why don't we hear more from, and about this guy ?!?!?!? Well onto a short review of the book... "Water sleeps" but this story most decidedly does not. There were some rumblings before publication that this might be the last in the Black Company series, that it was going stale, the creative juices were running out, whatever... I don't think so! Unless Cook just decides to walk away from it, there can be many, many more episodes to come based on the groundwork Mr. Cook lays in Water Sleeps. This is a transitional work in the series, not only an entertaing read. It lays the ground for a lot of changes, new character development and new storylines. We finally find out a lot about the world the Company inhabits, its roots, how it came to be, and where it has been headed these many years and episodes. If you like the Black Company, you really must get this book and read it NOW!!!! I've heard the title of the next installment is "Soldiers live, and wonder why". Whatever the name may be...hey, Glen, BRING IT ON SOON!!!!!! You left me hanging on the cliff by my nails! Please don't tell me you have not started on the next one, or that it will be a year or more that I have to wait for your next installment. I can't wait for the story to continue!!!!!
Rating: Summary: spellbinding read Review: Once I started reading I couldn't put the book down. The story was spellbinding, the characters felt more real than ever, and the tone of the book was upbeat. Cook never fails to surprise me in his ability to keep a reader guessing. I was amazed at the amount of detail Cook includes in this book. He manages to create a world that is truly intoxicating. I can't wait till the next installment.
Rating: Summary: 400 pages of filler, 80 pages of plot Review: Possible SPOILER. Since "Dreams of Steel", the Black Company has supposedly been moving towards a major league showdown with Kina. However, some 1500 pages later, nothing, and no end in sight. For cryin' out loud, Glen, wrap it up. I need some closure.
