Rating: Summary: A good story, despite it's beginning Review: This is a gripping story but lacks Anne's usual edge, despite being very similar to "Pegasus in Flight" (which is one of her best). The cover of the book is terrible - if you get to see the English edition it shows Acorna as she really should look (judging by the description!). American illustrators apparently don't read the books they illustrate for. Don't let this deter you though, it is definitely worth a read despite it's small faults - Anne's books tend to be good no matter what.
Rating: Summary: Loved it Review: I had read Most of Anne McCaffrey's books and just picked this one up cause I thought it looked interesting, I couldn't put it down, It is by far one of the best books I've ever read, But coming from the Author of the Dragon Riders of Pern Series, who could expect anything but the best
Rating: Summary: Quick to the point Review: this was a great book it took me about 6 hours to read and I couldn't put it down the characters are well developed with non stop action so that you can't get bored reading this book. Any new characters wre introduced into the book at just the right time so that you aren't wondering for half the book what will happen to them. I was really sorry when it ended. It is a long book but it is worth it to read every page had something new happening. I reccomend this book to everyone
Rating: Summary: silly and soppy -- not a serious book Review: I have to admit that I did not finish the book -- it was just too cutesy. As other reviewers have pointed out, the writing is more than just a little choppy. I would say it's just plain bad. And this surprises me, coming from Anne McCaffrey, since the few Dragon-series books that I read years ago were well-written (as I recall). In general, though, I would not recommend this book to SF and Fantasy readers. You can find much better.
Rating: Summary: Loved it. Review: Being a long standing fan of Anne McCaffery, I had to try this book. I wasn't sorry that I did! I've loved her Pern books and this was just as great. If you love fantasy, you WILL love this book!)
Rating: Summary: A starteling mix of injustice, unicorns, and spaceships. Review: As a long-time fan of Anne McCaffery, I know to always expect the best from her novels. With Acorna, I wasn't dissapointed. The main character is a foundling alien child who is reared up by three aging asteroid miners. She soon comes to Kezdet, a planet that exploits child labor, and becomes the hero of hope-starved children everywhere. Notable characters, an origional plot line, and unforgettable dialogue make for exiting reading.
Rating: Summary: Enjoyable... Review: This was the first book that I have read by Anne McCaffrey and Margaret Ball. And I found it very hard to put down . Loved the story right from the opening sentence. Iam glad that I went back to the bookstore a bought the book now, one of my favourites. Cant wait to see what happens to Acorna and her friends..
Rating: Summary: Great book over-all Review: I enjoyed reading this book. I read it in two days. I really liked Acorna and her special abilities of healing and purifying air and water. The children in the story touched me. It was sad how they had to "grow up" in the mines and factories and how most never grew up at all. I wish more could have been written about Acorna and Pal's relationship. Maybe the sequel will continue the romance. I'm a big fan of McCaffrey's works, especially the Dragonrider's of Pern series and Rowan series. It was a great book to read. I'm looking forward to the sequel.
Rating: Summary: This is a book to treasure always. Review: This is a beautifully written book. It is the first I have read by these authors and I bought this book because I love unicorns. I feel like I know Acorna and her friends. I can't wait to read anything that follows it. I will treasure it all my life. It is my favourite book now. I recommend it to anyone who loves fantasy. I shall never forget it. I'm sure all my family will like it as much as I.
Rating: Summary: Choppy, disconnected, but still interesting Review: Acorna was an interesting story populated with characters you could invest in and a "message" (the evils of child labor/slavery) but it was choppy and, in my opinion, poorly written. It lacked a sense of flow and the story-line felt like it wasn't quite finished or filled in. After reading it, I wondered if Anne McCaffrey was a bit overrated. I have since read some of her Dragonriders of Pern novels and found that she can write great stories. But as for Acorna, I really wouldn't recommend it when there are so many other tales that one could be reading instead.
