Rating: Summary: Disappointing! Review: From the author of so many faboulous novels, this is a disappointment. The characters are shallow and the plot very obvious. McCaffreys seems lately to produce novels too fast, quantity before quality.
Rating: Summary: Almost as absorbing as the Dragonrider series . . . Review: This is a lovely, lovely book. I've read a lot of Ms. McCaffrey's work, and Acorna ranks among the best. You'll enjoy it.
Rating: Summary: It was a very charming book. Very different from her usual. Review: This was a very cahrming book and I really enjoyed. I read it over an extenmded period of time because I was on a vacation. I suggest that if you read very quickly(finish a book in a week or less) you will enjoy this book a lot more. When I readm it over a long periosd of time, I was very hard to get into because it starts off slow. Don't get me wrong now, this is an excellent book. If you like Sci-fi, or books on Personal/Social struggles, I recommend it to you--strongly. Since I am thirteen, tall, and have a shock of red hair, I stand out a lot and thus can relate to Acorna's troubles. Acorna is an alien that was found by some gruff miners. She later goes on to expose a child labor scheme on a planet called Kezdet. She meets a lot of intersting characters in her travels, and some parts of the book are really funny. This book was charming, intersting, but some parts became slow. If you enjoyed any of Anne McCaffrey's books, especially the brain/brawn series, I strongly recommend this book to you.
Rating: Summary: _Acorna_ struck a chord with me Review: While it may not be "Great Literary Science Fiction" (but then, what _is_?) _Acorna_ is definitely fun to read. I'll grant that it may not be to everybody's tastes, but as a long-time lover of unicorns and coming-of-age stories, the book struck a definite chord with me that, like many of the better books I've read, left me wanting more. I dearly hope that this is but the first of a long series involving this character.McCaffrey and Ball developed their characters well, and at the end, I was sorry this book was over and really wanted to find out more about what happened to them. For a mass-market story, _Acorna_ is a very entertaining and fun read.
Rating: Summary: Not what I had expected Review: I've never read a fantasy type book before, but I found Acorna quite fascinating. The way Margaret Ball, and Anne McCaffrey, wrote this book was absolutely amazing! Since then I've started to read Science-Fiction Fantasy type novels, and enjoy them quite well. This is a well written book, people shouldn't miss out on. Two thumbs up, WAY up!!
Rating: Summary: This is a moving, funny, delightful story. Review: As in The Dragonriders of Pern and many of her other books, Anne McCaffrey has created wonderful humorous characters including strong independent women and the lovable, if a bit befuddled, men that love them. She and Margaret Ball are a winning combination. I have not found any story to be this absorbing in years. It was fast-paced and richly descriptive; a challenging equation as most authors either favor one side of this equation or the other. It is fantastic:-)
Rating: Summary: It is a good example of McCaffrey's insight and greatness Review: Acorna is one of the best McCaffrey books I have ever read and one of the most enjoyable. She was in fine form when she wrote it and literature, as a body, is greatly enhanced because of her contributions. Acorna is yet another example of Anne McCaffrey's insight and overall greatness.
Rating: Summary: A favorite book by a favorite author Review: After reading other books by Anne McCaffery and being told by others, I knew it was going to be a great book. It was and I hope to read the other Acorna books.
Rating: Summary: Great book Review: This was my first book by Anne McCaffrey and will not be my last. I liked the realistic charactors and the the plot to hlep the children of Kesdet. I can't wait to read Acorna's Quest!
Rating: Summary: It was one of the best books I read this year Review: I thought this book was wonderful and would read it again a hundred times. I felt connected to Acorna. She was so naive but she always seemed to be in the right place even though it did not seem it. I do like classic good vs. evil books. I do not like a sad ending. Most of Anne McCaffrey's books have not ended sadly. I hope Anne and Margaret write more about the life of this unicorn girl:) I look forward to more books!
