Rating: Summary: Fascinating! Review: I just finished reading "The Truth Machine" and have had to re-evaluate some of my
longest-held beliefs about privacy and one world government. I have read only one
other book which affected my outlook on the future as much as James L.
Halperin's "The Truth Machine." Mr. Halperin (and Del Rey / Ballantine Books) can
be proud of this one. "The Truth Machine" has the class, the style, and the
memorable characters which put it right up there with Asimov's "Foundation" novels.
To those who have stated a fear of the loss of privacy threatened by this
novel, I can only say that I, too, share that fear. But the thought of honest politicians,
cops, judges and, dare I say it, girlfriends, is facinating. ;-)
Rating: Summary: A very dissapointing read Review: A good premise, and a potentially good antidote for the typical gloom and doom speculative novel, but the writing was leaden. I could muster neither interest nor sympathy for the characters, and making the narrator a computer who can only write reportage is no excuse for a flat and bleak writing style. I started the book with great hopes, but was achingly disappointed, even angry, before I was through
Rating: Summary: Astounding! Review: I found The Truth Machine to be a provocative novel packed with
intriguing foresight. It was also refreshing to read a work of literature
with characters who exhibited not only depth and realistic
personality, but to find a character as unique as the Intel 22g!
Thankfully, the characters in this work were not conveniently
stereotypical and static, but well-developed and believable. All in all
an astounding A+!! I look forward to any and all sequels, as well as
other work by Halperin. I truly enjoyed the hours I spent inside this
book.

Rating: Summary: Too short, otherwise perfect! Review: It was plausible and well thought out. The premise was wonderful and the predictions
insightful. It stimulated me to think and engaged my mind. I enjoyed the way the
narrator filled in the reader -- and assumed we were intelligent enough to grasp what
was going on and extrapolate the future history. It was sweeping at times -- I enjoyed
it so much, I wish it were a series of books that went into more detail.
Rating: Summary: One of the best books of any genre I have read. Review: I thoroughly enjoyed the concepts and characters presented in The Truth Machine. One question that puzzles me is why did Halperin use the English units of measure? I would prefer to think the US would adopt the metric system. I look forward to reading more books written by this imaginative author.
Rating: Summary: Will recommend it to everyone I know. Review: I seriously doubt we'll get a Truth Machine in the near future; I think that truth and the
human mind are both slipperier concepts than anyone can imagine. That said, I found
this to be a fascinating novel--read it in one day, and barely tore myself away for
dinner (quite a sacrifice in these pre-grazing days). I think Halperin has some great
insights into the problems we face, and whether you agree or disagree with his
solutions (even apart from the ACIP itself) you will come away from this book
thinking...which may be the best result he could ask for. I will certainly be
recommending this to, well, everyone I know, and I don't expect to see my copy for
some time after it starts to circulate among my friends! (I'd send copies to my
Congressional reps if I thought it would do any good, but I'm afraid I've grown very
jaded very quickly.)
Rating: Summary: I loved this novel!! Review: I am eagerly awaiting Haleprin's next work. The speculations were
riveting and at times seemed far fetched, however I fell in love with the characters. I
believe he dealt well with the way the world must be and certain prerequisites, in the
way of morality, for a World Government. Fascinating!
Rating: Summary: Best book I've read in a long time Review: Thought provoking--interesting prognosis for future based on current
trends. Should be read and discussed by policy planners. Breathlessly
waiting for his next book!
Rating: Summary: A perfect ten! Review: Couldn't put it down. Brilliant. Made me think. Never condescending, obvious or full of stupid action and violence for no reason. The characters were realistic. Love didn't conquer all. Relationships were real. The characters grew from experiences rather than blaming their circumstances. I'd love to know the author
