Rating: Summary: Spacy and overly artsy Review: This book has a lot of good ideas behind it, but it's not very well written. Sure, the prose is clean and nice, but there's no passion behind it, no spark of genius or excitement, like comes through in Goodkind or Martin, or Jordan and Haydon, both of whom plugged it but whose work far surpasses it. Liath is a fairly interesting character but she degenerates into a predictable female role, when she could have been so much more. I recommend a read of this when you have a long weekend with nothing to do--it's hard to get through, but it does have some interesting passages. You might want to wait for the paperback, however.
Rating: Summary: Attention, Borderline(And Hardcore) Fans! Review: This is the kind of book that will bring new fans into fantasy, as well as captivate the hard core fan. Terry Mcgarry has written the "thinking man's"(woman's) fantasy novel, rich in characteri- zation with an intriguing, complex storyline. Being a marginal fantasy and S.F. reader myself, I don't delve into this genre un- less a book comes highly recommended. It was, and it is the real mcoy. Try it!
Rating: Summary: Excellent Novel, great first time author w/ lots of promise Review: This novel is perfect for the reader who enjoys the adventure and world-creation of fantasy novels, but also can appreciate well-written literature consistently filled with eloquent prose and striking real world ties. I truly enjoyed this book and cannot wait to read the author's next piece of work.
Rating: Summary: I should've checked it out from the library first! Review: Wow - what a dissapointment! I thought this book was going to be good. I read the first two chapters online and figured it would be good. I went out and bought it and now I want to burn it. The book is good up until Liath finishes her journey to the Head. Then the quality of the story plummets so quickly, I never finished reading it. I did flip to the end to see if I should give it a second chance, but the end was so terrible, I regretted even thinking about giving the book a second chance. So a word to the wise: If you're really set on reading this book, check out it out from the library first and then go waste your money if you think it's worthy of sitting on your bookshelf.
