Rating: Summary: Fascinating! Review: Actually, I haven't read the whole book yet, just some stuff about makeup and concepts and the section about the stunts. I thought it was very interesting learning how they did stuff compared to the stunts in say, ROTJ. Compressed air instead of wires, for example. Great book!
Rating: Summary: Making of a Masterpiece Review: After having read many 'Making of' books, even by the same author I was surprised to read, for once, a fully comprehensive timetable of events from creation to completion. Yeah, there could have been more on the music and the production phase but the special effects analysis is superb. Some of the pictures are awesome.
Rating: Summary: interesting but a little dissapointing Review: As a star wars fan, I was interested in the making of this movie.. this book was interesting in that it contained interviews with some of the cast, and George Lucas, plus some on-the-set photographs, but the book has a canned, mass-market feel to it and does not go beyond the basic aspects of production.
Rating: Summary: Every Film Has A Story Review: Authors Laurent Bouzereau and Jody Duncan, are no strangers when it comes to taking film-goers behind the scenes, explaining how films are made. Bouzereau has produced some great DVD documentaries for the movies of Hitchcock and Spielberg. While Duncan has written making of books for Jurassic Park, The X-Files film, and others. As I have stated before in other reviews, having graduated college with a film degree, I have always been interested in the process of how films are made for as long as I can remember. In the case of "Menace", it's no secret that I was disappointed with the finished product, yet reading the book gives insight into the mega mind of George Lucas. I guess the appeal for me with this book, is the opportunity to try and figure out what makes the guy tick, why does he do what he does and so on.The first thing that struck me about the book, was how much Lucas seemed so sure that folks would fall in line, and love the film, no matter what the story was. History, as we know, didn't exactly work out the way he thought. I know that expectations for the prequels are high, and it's impossible to please everyone, but Lucas thinks that since the new films, will make bucks, no matter what, the human element that was present in the previous 3 films, takes a back seat. The book is well written, even if its biggest flaw is the fact that, if you believe what you read, the shoot was near perfect .Since everyone on the film, thinks Lucas is infallible, there's not one negative about him in the book. This is weird because, on every film, that I have ever read about or watched a documentary on, there's always a bit of trouble like that and then the parties move on. It's normal. The problems aside, the authors do a good job, with explaining a, b, and c. The 164 page book is recommended, for anyone who wants to know "why" Menace both suceeded and failed, at the same time

Rating: Summary: Wonderfull Review: I believe you have to be serious about Star Wars to really be interested in this book. People expecting a Picture Book with simple accounts of shooting, and special effects may get dragged down by the seriousness of it. BUT, for those that what to know a lot about how it was made, this is great for you!
Rating: Summary: A must for all Sci-Fi movie buffs. Review: I found this book an excellent addition to my collection of "The Making of ..." books. The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five is because I would have liked to have seen some more "meat" in the special effects areas, specially the practical models and sets, and the computer animation, which (in my opinion) has just been given a quick overview. The "Jurassic Park" books were much better, but then the movies didn't have as much CG animation in them (personally, I'd rush out and buy a sequel covering the SFX side alone).
Rating: Summary: Good solid book on the Making of TPM Review: I love books about the making of movies and TV shows- esp. ones with special effects. While I have seen a few better Making of books, this one contained a lot of good information, beautiful photographs, and avoided gossip (a plus) to focus on the technical aspects of the production.
Rating: Summary: Awesome! Review: I'm a super Star Wars fan, so this book was great! There were great pictures and some things I really didn't know about Episode 1. If your a Star Wars fan, (as I am) read this book, it is a great book.
Rating: Summary: Amazing Review: If you buy this book (and are a Star Wars fan) I promise you that you will not be let down. If you are like me, and you ansolutely NEED to know everything about conception, preproduction, filming, editing, scoring, postproduction, casting, and a score of other topics, this book is for you! A word of caution to non-Star Wars fans: it can be a little dull if you really aren't interested in the movie, but that wasn't a problem for me.
