I've re-read every other book abut 5 times at least, this series I've only read once or twice. Darian is backwater and nobody really wants to read his story. I want to read about heralds or the Hawkbrothers or more about Rethwellan or Karse. I almost agree with some of the others, the writing is better when its only Ms. Lackey writing it without her husband. Its a good book don't get me wrong, but not near as wonderful as the Last Herald Mage tril. or the Arrows of the queen tril. I want more about headstrong women doing what they do best, and the exotic hawkbrothers way of life. Magic and excitement, not a backwater kid whos way out of his depth. Please, Ms. Lackey, write more like the other tril's. What was Urtho like? There is a tril from people who lived with him, but what about from his POV? Or maybe a story a Campanion's POV.

Although this book was not as good as some, like Magic's Pawn, it's still a great book! But, what did you expect? I mean, Mercedes Lackey wrote it; its gotta be good!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: I Love This Book! Review: I love this book. This is the best Lackey book I've ever read. Dairen is an interesting character and the Hawkbrothers are great. I can hardly wait to read the sequel.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Extremely hard to put down Review: I loved it! It was extremely hard to put down, and I ended up reading the whole thing in less than a day! It's not the best Valdemar book, but it does justice to the series.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: This is a great ending to a GREAT series! Review: I loved this book. Every minute I could, after school, in school, whenever, I was reading that book. I loved Darian's ways. I felt sorry for him, but in awe of the way his life turned out. He lived in a world that we can only daydream about but would love to live. He had gone through so much trama and yet took things the way they were. Then being picked on for being the typical teenage rebel. He was gifted with magical powers that only came as a curse to him. He was a major hero for the village kids, but he just wanted to fit in. He lived the life of a hurt loner, that was followed by bad happenings. If you have ever suffered loss of a loved one, you can almost relate to Darian. All I can say is that I wish that Mercedes Lackey would continue to make books of Valdemar or the Hawkbrothers. When I finished the last of the series, it was like a great loss and I felt a great feeling of sadness. I still do. I just wish it wasn't there, and I could be curled up in my chair instead. With a book about Valdemar.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Read! Review: I loved this book. I am a major Mercedes Lackey fan and have read most of her books. I first started reading them when I saw one (The Lark and the Wren) on my sister's book shelf and from then on I was hooked. This book was much better than I expected. Her last trilogy The Mage Storms wasn't that great so I wasn't sure about this one untill I started reading and was snagged. I can't wait to read the next books Owlsight and Owlknight. Other books of hers that are cool are The Last Herald-Mage trilogy. I have read those books over and over. Her Bardic Voices and Bardic Choices books were good too, except for the last one Four and Twenty Blackbirds. I hope she keeps on writing her Valdemar books after this trilogy since I love them so much. If you are a Lackey fan you should also check out Tamora Pierce, Terry Goodkind, Robin Mckinley, Sherwood Smith, Andre Norton, Dennis McKiernan, or\and Ursala Le Guin books.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Good, but a little redundant Review: I thought the book was good, but there were some parts that were repeated, but from different views- it got me a bit confused, expecially for a 12 year old. I would recommend reading the "black Gryphon" or her other books to get used to her style of writing and avoid getting confused.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: It seems like your there in the book. Review: I thought this book was one of the best I'ev read this year. It was almost like you where there in the book. I felt grevence for Darian whaen he lost his parents and was shuned by the town. I felt happness when he meets SnowFire and Hweel. I think Darians the kind of Person who grows on you thrugh-out the book. Over all I loved it and am a major fan of Mercedes Lackey.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: What happened to the Misty I knew? Review: I used to be an avid fan of Mercedes Lackey, but her latest books have been nothing but 400 pages of schlock. Gone are the days of the 200 page book with a coherent storyline and likable characters (like the Heralds of Valdemar trilogy). Instead we are subjected to endless pages of pointless detail and whiny adolescents. She started out wonderfully. The Heralds of Valdemar trilogy was stellar, Magic's Price of the Last Herald-Mage trilogy was genius. The Mage Winds was still good, although she started to get a little long-winded. And now she's fallen into a rut. All the main characters are whiny and ungrateful, all the Tayledras are wise and all-knowing, all the bad guys are evil without real purpose. She spends entire chapters on pointless detail (can we say the chapter about digging sewage systems in Storm Rising?). Owlflight is just the culmination of all this. It's yet another boring Valdemar book. Misty either needs to start *writing* again or put Valdemar to sleep for good. (it'd probably help if Larry Dixon didn't help her write...it seems like her writing has gone downhill ever since he teamed up with her...)
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: A Rather Disappointing Book Review: I was surprised after reading Owlflight by the disappointment I felt. I was expecting a full-bodied story. Instead, the one I got was limp and vaguely dissatisfying. And I can't even pinpoint the dissatisfaction. One might be that this book appears to have been written for juveniles. Even though many of her previous characters have been young, she had never "talked down" to the reader before. Also, while the side characters are all entertaining as usual (excluding the townspeople), Darian is a very unsympathetic character, which is unusual. I finally understood part of his problem was just being a teenager, but even then I could never care much for him. I much preferred the old mage, Justyn, and the Hawkbrothers and their companion birds. This story reads more like a very long short story, where you do not expect much character development. Nothing is explained. There are vague references to the former characters in her Winds and Storm series. I don't know if this is a "filler" book; i.e.,
