Summary: Excellent story by Peter David, but not his greatest...
Review: I am a huge fan of Peter David, and although this wasn't one of Mr. David's greatest works, all I have to say is: The ending alone makes this book a must-have and I cannot wait any longer for the next book...

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A great continuation & I hope the next'll be avail soon!
Review: I am not a huge fan of ST books, for the most part. They rarely tell me anything about the series I don't already know. This New Frontier series is a different kettle of fish. I think they're great & get each one as soon as it comes out. (I've taken to buying David's other books as well, about B5, and his own stuff too._Howling Mad_ is on my too-read list.) With these he tells funny, romantic, exciting, political stories, that differ a great deal from OS or TNG type ships. Mackenzie Calhoun is a different man than the Starfleet captains we've seen. His universe, his ship, is more fun too. But as much as possible these books should be read in order. I eagerly await #9 and all the other NF books to come. (Don't forget the Captain's Table book about Calhoun also by David, _Once Burned,_ you NF fans.)

Summary: Great Ending, Bad Grammar
Review: I found this book a very good read. The last sentence is stunning. However, I was surprised that #7 and this one have so many grammatical errors. Unusual for Peter David books.

If you like the New Frontier characters this is a welcome addition to the series and will have you buying #9 right after you finish.

By the way, If Mr. David ever reads this...more Kebron!!!

Summary: Good, but not great
Review: I found this book immensely enjoyable, like all of the others in the series. The plot was rather engrossing, and there were some well written segments (Ensign Janos in the jungle for one). As always, a few good quotes were gleamed. ("Watch it. I have a goldfish. It challenges my intelligence daily.") However, it did have some flaws. Xyon, the best new character from _The Quiet Place_, is ruined as Peter David switches modes in terms to his personality. Also, the romantic intertwinings of the crew are getting rather irritating. Overall, though, I would still recommend it to people, but you must have read the entire series up to this point first.

Summary: Great, ORIGINAL Trek.
Review: I have to admit I haven't been reading any Star Trek novels. On the whole I find them pretty much the same, predictable, story. But David has turned me around with his New Frontier series. I enjoyed the book's wit as well as the action. The interplay between characters was a treat, a real sense of cameraderie you don't see that much of in Trek anymore. I would've given in 5 stars, but the ending! Argh! Write quickly Mr. David.

Summary: NEED NEXT BOOK!
Review: I just finished this book and the charcters both old and new rock (literally in Kebron's case). The story is good, and kept me turning pages rapidly the whole way through. The ending however.... GAAAAHHH! Grozit, I need the next book.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Much more excitement than "The Quiet Place"
Review: I loved this book. I was looking for fun and excitement in the previous novel, but didn't find it there. Peter David is great when it comes to what's in this book. Not to give away the ending, but I certainly hope more books will follow. It ends in a cliffhanger with loose ends to be tied up. Don't end it here, Peter!

Summary: That's more like it
Review: I think what I like about these books are that they allow Mr. David to do things that neither the writers of traditional Trek novels, or the TV series cannot do. Characters come and go with ease. On the TV series, you add a character, and you now have to hire another regular actor. In the New Frontier, David creates groups of characters that would never work in other formats. In many ways, these books feel much like the comic book teams that Mr. David has written. Before long, we may see the bridge crew engaged in BlackAdder riffs. Better action, and it's clear that David enjoys putting his characters through the wringer. These should be enjoyable reads as this unique voice continues to add to the familiar turf that is Trek.

Summary: One of my favorites
Review: I thought this was one of the better books of the series. While it may not be the best, it was definately near the top, at least on my personal list. I enjoyed the Calhoun/Shelby moments--they made the book very much worth it, and while there was a lot of them, we still got to see some of the other characters--many of whom got some very good lines. Definately one of my favorites.
