Rating: Summary: Like Teacher Like Student Review: In his introduction to Starswarm Jerry Pournelle pays tribute to Robert Heinlein, as an inspiration when Pournelle was an adolescent reader and science student; and later as a mentor and friend. I will pay tribute to Pournelle: Starwarm could have been a Heinlein book. All of the elements of vintage Heinlein are there: the young protagonist who is different from his peers, the science that is out-of-reach for now, but conceivable for tomorrow. I have always enjoyed Pournelle as a writer in his own right. After reading this introduction, as I read Starwarm I remembered Citizen of the Galaxy and The Moon is a Harsh Mistress. I have missed science-based science fiction a la Robert Heinlein and enjoyed finding it again in Starswarm.
Rating: Summary: If it looks like a Heinlein, walks like a Heinlein, ... Review: It has been a while since I read this book for the 3rd time but I still remember it well. I know that www.jerrypournelle.com has commented on it a few times that he was intending to write a Heinlein juvenile book. Well, he suceeded ! Great read, great concept and excellent flow. The first time that I read the book I could not put it down until I finished it at 4 am (much to my wife's displeasure !).
Rating: Summary: Best Book by one of the best authors of our time. Review: Miss reading Heinlein in your tree house with purloined cookies and lemonade??? Jerry Pournelle evokes those same sentiments with his new novel Starswarm. Excitement on every page with an intriguing mystery thrown in. If you are traveling this summer with anyone over the age of 11, leave the Game Boy at home, but bring this book--I assure you, you will not hear the words "I'm bored". Robert E. Shock and Christine Shock
Rating: Summary: Jerry is a super author -- fiction or non Review: No question about it J.P. is at the top of his form. You will not be disappointed if you get this book. I only wish it were longer. Also don't forget Jerry is online.
Rating: Summary: untapped plots potential Review: OK for a young kids book. Should of been tighter editing of vacuous dialogue and hokey names. The Plot was terrific tho.
Rating: Summary: Another brilliant novel from the "Jules Verne of the 90s" Review: One of the best SF stories I ever read! Started reading and wasn't able to stop. Read it completely in 2x5 hours. Although I'm a native German, and my english isn't exactly what I would call "good", I had no problems to understand everything. If somebody would ask me, I would for sure believe it was written in German. Even a beginner can read it! The story is thrilling, I would expect Hollywood to make a movie from it! Get that book - you'll have no regrets about it!
Rating: Summary: Heinlein revisited Review: Pournelle shows true mastery of his craft in this tribute to Robert A. Heinlein. He assumes Heinlein's mantle as though it had been cut to fit him, and turns out a "juvenile" masterpiece that Heinlein would have been proud to call his own. There's more here, though, than just a good juvenile. Like most good SF books, this book can be read on multiple levels. Young people will enjoy it as a juvenile. Adult readers will enjoy it just as much for the serious SF that it is. Well done, Dr. Pournelle!
Rating: Summary: A page turning, suspense building mastermind of good writing Review: Starswarm is a great read from Jerry Pournelle. The book is about a kid named Kip who is living many years ahead of our present time. One of the living stations outside of earth is Starswarm Station, a research facility on planet Paradise. For as long as Kip has known, there has been a voice in his head - and he is not imagining things. The voice can access virtually anything digital such as information and money. Kip has always used the voice to think - as it could answer any question. In time, Kip begins to search for his own answers to his mind-boggling guide. When he finds out the essence of Starswarm Station and everyone on it including himself is in danger, he has to do something. I gave this book a rating of four stars because it was a page turning, suspense building mastermind of good writing. I also chose the rating because I was able to connect to this book on a personal level given that Kip is a young adult like myself. My final cause for this rating was the book's ending. The suspense and thrill of the incisive adventure was mind-blowing.

Rating: Summary: If you're 15 or 45... ages don't matter for this novel ! Review: Starswarm is a science fiction novel, which is not science fiction... :)) What do I mean? I mean, it's a science fiction novel, which has more features than an ordinary simple science fiction book. Also, this novel is for generations reading. I think if you are 15 or 45, you can read it without a matter. If English is not your native language, and if you can read fifth-level books, I'm highly recommending Starswarm for you.
