Rating: Summary: Wow! Review: An amazing book. Somehow Maloney has transported the Wingman epic to the far-flung future, yet retained the good stuff that made the "old" series so cool. It's the year 7200 AD and Hunter still has his F-16 yet he flies against ultra-futuristic spacefighters belonging to a far-flung galactic empire controlled by Earth. He is looking for his true identity (still) and his only clue in this book is the American flag that he always carried in his pocket. Hunter fears that he is the last American left in the universe -- but somehow I don't think that's the case. Great action, really weird sci-fi stuff, and LOTS of good-looking ladies, some real some not. I really wish someone would make a movie of this.
Rating: Summary: Great Science Fiction Adventure Review: Finally, Mack Maloney wrote another book about the infamous Hawk Hunter. I have read the whole Wingman Series, starting in the late 80's. Before the internet I would go to see if his next book had come out yet. When the last Wingman was distributed, I thought to myself, there has to be more. I'm glad he started this new series. It is a continuation of where he left off with Wingman. I just finished reading Starhawk. I can't wait for the next one to be released. Thank You Mack Maloney for staying in the business. I'm looking forward to your future books. I've got, to my knowledge anyway, every published book you've written. Wingman series, Chopper Ops, Thunder Alley and War Heaven, and now Starhawk. Maloney's writing puts one in the place that they are reading, I can picture everything from what I read.

Rating: Summary: STARHAWK is outstanding Maloney`s done it again! Review: First, I must start by strongly disagreeing with the review by Mr.Dennis Buck Rodgers! I too have all of Mack Maloney`s books; Yet, I am not nearly so threatened by Mr. Maloney`s willingness to challenge his readers with his ever expanding imagination. In my opinion it`s refreshing that he doesn`t continue to write the same "type of books he began with". Well, often authors are criticized for their growth, rather than applauded. Believe me STARHAWK is to be applauded. Hawk Hunter is back as cool and as fast as ever. I enjoyed the Erx and Berx interaction, the lost identity dynamic and of course the Earth Race. Starhawk paints an intriguing backdrop for the classic hero! Well done Mack!
Rating: Summary: So-so writing, but decent plot Review: Fortunately, Mack Maloney knows how to spin an interesting story; that alone makes it worth reading. Frankly, however, when compared to other SF authors such as William Fortschen or David Weber, Mack Maloney does not even begin to compare; at times his writing is almost chidlesh. Furthermore, an SF author should at least have some semblence of realistic science; Mack Maloney's use of "extra-demensions" and so forth is more entertaining than believable, however. If one wishes to use extra dimensions in science fiction, that is fine; string theory, after all, proposes 11. Maloney, however, simply uses the concept of "extra-dimensions" as a vehicle to advance that plot so that he can have ships winking in and out of existence, etc. Having given the negative side of this review, it's only fair that I give credit Maloney for a very interesting and enjoyable plot. It's original (well, sort of) and he manages to make the reader truly interested in his protagonist's fate. All in all, this makes up for his lack of talent (this might not be entirely fair; I haven't read anything other than this series). I can definitely recommended this series for others; just don't expect too much from his writing style.
Rating: Summary: SF at its finest Review: I agree with the previous reviewers except one. This book is fast-paced and with great twists and turns throughout. Cool idea for a guy to have a F16 fighter jet competing in the 73rd century. Looking forward to the next adventure.

Rating: Summary: Hawk is back and good as ever Review: I bought Wingman in 1990 at an airport shop in Shreveport, LA. I needed a book for a flight to LA and this seemed the only one there I could read.Wotta great choice! The intervening 12 years brought us 15 more. Then, a hiatus occurred with Chopper Ops. That series never quite hit its stride, though I'm the first to admit that Shuttle Down came close to matching the Hawk Hunter/Ryder Long adventure index. But, Star Hawk Rocks! With a strong improvement in style and narrative, better characterization, continued control of the babe count, and a hint of one goddam fantatstic story line, Mack Maloney grabbed me a page 1 and held me through the end on page 267. The story finds Hawk lost again, but still on his quest for his peace of mond. But, it's not on a war-ravaged earth or alternative earth. This time, it's a war-ravaged galaxy, where deep secrets are being kept by everyone. Hawk is/will be the catalyst for change. While it stands alone, knowledge of the other stories only makes the enjoyment of this one richer. Hey, anyone think that Colonel Long may have been involved with the lighthouse or home?
Rating: Summary: Starhawk bombs Review: I have all, and I do mean all of Maloney's books. I think the last 3 books in the Wingman series has dwindled to little more than a tired effort of the writer. He has clearly tried to go in directions that would lead to more sales rather than continuing a believable quality. He is reaching to find a connection to his earlier books and falling way, way short. I do hope he is not "farming out" the books to other writers. If he is, he needs to re-evaluate his decision and get back on track. I simply want the type of books he began with. The line of fiction he is currently trying is more like fantasy than fiction. Only one good spot in this book. If you start in the middle and quit about 30 pages later you will like this book. If you read more than that it is no doubt the worst book this author has written. I look forward to the author getting his feet back to reality. I will continue to buy his books but I sure hope they improve.
Rating: Summary: excellent read Review: I have enjoyed all of Mack Maloneys' books since i picked up the first one in 1997. Ever since I have waited impatiently for the next one to come out. I have yet to be disappointed. Starhawk is just as much fun as the first Hawk hunter book that I ever read, Wingman. I can't wait for the next one to hit the shelves. Please tell all of your friends about these great books.
