Summary: Dragon and Phoenix
Review: Joanne Bertin is extremely talented. I loved her first book and loved this one even more. Her ability to pull the reader into this fantasy world she has created only makes me eagerly anticipate the next release, and next and next.....Read this and her first and I can't wait for the next one!!

Summary: I really liked it, and stayed up all night reading it.
Review: I'm not a teenager, in fact, I'm a grandmother, so saying that this book is too juvenile for anyone not a teen is a bit arrogant. I read many books, but for pure escapism, I really enjoy a good 'fantasy' novel! Some of those 'critically acclaimed' books for the 'discriminating reader' are just plain boring, although not all are.

Personally, I like reading about dragons. I think that Anne McCaffrey is my favorite author, but this give the same feelings: good vs bad, light vs darkness. The good guys win in the end by acting with honor. There should be more books like this that show our kids how to act with honor and respect to others.

I truly enjoyed this book, so much in fact, that I stayed up all night until 4 am reading, until I just could not stay awake anymore. I just didn't want to put the book down. I finished it the next morning, after a good nap!

This was absolutely great! I hope that there is a retro book, detailing Lindens past as well. Perhaps even one that details the shaman's war that created the DragonLords.

I started out with this second one in the series, and once it was finished, (I stayed up all night to read that one too!) I had to go find the 1st one to read. When are there going to be more? I can hardly wait.

Keep up the good work, Joanne Bertin!

Summary: An Enjoyable Read (cs7)
Review: This book was very good. I liked it becuase the story didn't stop, it wasn't confusing, and the plot was full, and the scenes were well described. At the biginning of the book, I had one question in my head. It was, "What is this book going to be like?" It began and all of the characters were well introduced. Two different plots were made apparent from the very beginning. As the story went on, the suspense rose, and the two seperate plots became more twisted. The narrator was able to keep the two different stories apart enough that the reader didn't become confused with what he or she were reading. When the two stories finally combined, it was very clear and the characters weren't mixed up. Foreshadowing was also an important part of this book. Parts of the future were put in, and when I read them, I didn't know what they meant, but I found out by continuing to read.

Summary: A comparitive review to the first...
Review: There is a world out there with people who have rules established as to how dragons must act, similar to rules governing vampires and werewolves. This novel slightly changes those rules, but since it's fantasy whose to say it's wrong?

The title is captivating and the cover art even more so. The thought of two great magical creatures such as these coming together was a dream come true.

The book took some getting used to because of the slow speed at which it begins, and I must admit there were things that occured which did seem doubtful, but it was still a very impressive piece of work overall with an imaginative, and different, plot. I can forgive the more annoying moments of the book because of the unsurpassed effort of blending together so many different elements into one beautiful piece of tapestry. Not to mention that the final chapters will not allow you to put the book down until it is finished.

Overall this book was great enough to convince me to buy her other work (which is 'The Last Dragonlord') and the previous piece of work is MUCH better than the second (maybe due to fewer elements). I can only hope that Joanne doesn't lose her focus for the third and hope she can continue to be different and intriguing like Melanie Rawn.

Summary: The BEST!!!
Review: ... This, and the first book, were definatly my two FAVORITE books. Before i read this book, I could never make up my mind about what my favorite book would be. It would change after every book i read, which is a LOT of books! But after reading The Last Dragonlord and Dragon and Phoenix, the only books I'll be switching my opinion on now are those two! They arent your average dragons, mindless monsters used to gaurd caves, enemies of knights in armor. These dragons had personality, feelings, and their only powers werent to breath fire and use their claws. They could Heal people, and make coldfir, and they also had people called soultwins, in a way like a husband/wife set up for you before you were born, and the other half of you. The dragonlords are half dragon, half human, and their two souls are split in half. In a way your soultwin is just you in a different body, but soultwins ARENT exactly the same. And the Lysanyins, the beautiful, fast, and intelligent creatures also add a lot of fun to the stories. Lleld also adds a lot of fun to the stories, she is a know it all kind of circus clown, who seems to get on Lindens nerves a lot. I would recomend this book to anyone that likes romance, adventure, and fantasy all in one.

Summary: Bad, really bad.
Review: This book is awful. This is disappointing on several levels. 1)the first book showed a great deal of promise, with an interesting world and a neat-o take on dragons. 2)great cover art! 3)really intriguing premise-mighty creatures chained and harnassed in order to use their magic.

The problems are many, but here are a few: 1)why do characters who are hundreds and thousands of years old act like immature morons? Would a bunch of true dragons just run off and attack like dimwitted bandits? probably not. Lleld and Linden behave like juveniles. 2)how is it that this world hasn't advanced in thousands of years? would the same countries, customs, and languages still exist? No. 3)you know within the first fifty pages all you need to know, i.e., two beings chained, there will be a big battle, the phoenix is really fiery, the dragon will be ... The next four hundred pages add nothing except leading to this conclusion, there are no surprises. 4)this book has the worst examples of deus ex machina (unexplained, random, and completely lucky occurrences dictate outcomes) I've ever seen.

Stay away.

Summary: Great!
Review: This is the second book in the series, and although it was not as good as the first book, it kept me right there. I read the entire book in a little over a day. My favorite part was when the author allowed us to see the emotional turmoil created by the Change. I also really enjoyed discovering why Ryanna was having such trouble with her "other part". I'm eagerly awaiting the third book in the series. Bard's Oath.

Summary: What a bore!
Review: While there was certainly an attempt to be interesting, this book lacks the flare of its predecessor. It drones on and on, making Maurynna into a whining brat, and her would-e love Raven into a total idiot! I don't recommend this book to anyone unless they happen to have a lot of time on their hands, and nothing to do. Instead, try to hold onton the more interesting memory of The First Dragonlord.

Summary: Gotta LOVE it
Review: This is absolutely one of the best fantasy books on the market. From Ursula K. Leguin to Maggie Furrey, I have never been as enthralled as I was with this book. A dragon is captured. A land protected by priestmages who drain the magic of their captive.

A land where all but a handful of dragons have been slaughtered. The only hope for the dragon rests on the shoulds of a dragonlord that can't change. Magic, mystery, and intrigue. You will enjoy.

Summary: A very captivating and well written book
Review: After reading the first story, I ran out to buy the sequel, and I wasn't disappointed. I read through the entire novel in 3 nights, I was so engrossed. The part I liked the most was the whole new spin on dragons. Anxiously awaiting Joanne's third novel...
