Summary: Even better than Lord of Light; deserves to be in print.
Review: The Egyptian pantheon, the lands of the dead and living, a Steel General, some very old shoes, prayers that apologize for disturbing a deity which may or may nor exist.... Only Zelazny could combine them all, and only Zelazny could bring it all off so brilliantly. What a loss that he is no longer with us, and what a tragedy that this book is no longer in print.

Summary: Incredible...
Review: This book is like Lord Of Light, only shortrer. It is one of my favorite books of all time. Read it! There isn't and, maybe, there never will be anyone like Zelazny

Summary: Its now my favorite book.
Review: This book made me read other Roger Zelazny books because it was just so good. The battles he portrays are monsterous with his descriptions of the characters thoughts and movements.I really couldn't stop reading. There really is no one writer like him.

I would also recommend Lord Demon by this author.

Summary: Not Lord of Light but.....
Review: This did not have NEARLY the impact that Lord of Light did but I felt that Scope was worth it...As with most of Zelazny work you almost have to read it 2 or 3 times to see the sheer depth of his work. A couple readers here have stated that he 'off the cuffs' the great ideas he has. I think that is the brilliance in his work. We do not wander around talking about the Hubble telescope do we? We casually say: "Did you see the new pics from the Hubble?" That is the way of his work. It forces you to use your imagination. It is a gift.

On a side note.... one could almost think that Set was Sam.

Look into it. You will see.

Summary: The work of a , in his prime...
Review: This is a wonderful work of poetic prose. Most authors couldn't pull this style of writing off. And , perhaps, only Bradbury has done it better. To compare this novel with "Lord of Light" is to compare variations of a theme.Simply because they both have to do with non-christion pantheons, doesn't mean that they have anything to do with each other. More quatrane, than coherant novel. This work is a wonder of philosphical imagery. ah, hell...I just liked it alot, o.k ?

Summary: One of the most fascinating books ever
Review: This particular book is perhaps one of Zelazny's best works. The story is fascinating, the imagery Zelazny uses is very powerful, and you are drawn into the story so completely that you feel that you are actually part of it. I have read this book more than 10 times, and I still find it fresh and exciting with each reading. I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

Summary: a fine tapestry of rare and precious threads.
Review: Zelazny treats his brilliant ideas in this book the same way Verdi treats some of his best tunes- almost negligently. He introduces both temporal fugue and the Agnostic's Prayer as side lights. Where as most other authors would have been satisfied to develop a plot on any one of many themes in this book, Zelazny chooses to weave them together in his unique, masterful style. I refrained from granting _Creatures of Light and Darkness_ a fifth star for two reasons. Firstly, it bears the same relationship to his _Lord of Light_ as Beethoven's Choral Fantasy does to his ninth symphony- similar ideas, but not quite so well thought out. (Note that it is not sheerly through accident that I choose the greatest piece of music ever for my comparison). Secondly, it had a little of the same time sense of his _Doorways in the Sand_ and those readers who (foolishly) are not willing to invest the effort to keep track of things will be disappointed. Should definately be in print- it is part of the sci-fi canon so far as I am concerned.
