Summary: Best book I've ever read!...You feel like your IN the Book!
Review: What a Fantastic Book!.. I read this book as a Sophmore in High School (over 10 years ago) and it made had an extremely big impact on me and my outlook on life...(I too wanted to name my child "Ariel" after reading this book - it made that much of an impact on me)...

I never forgot the title of the book, so that I may find it again one day.. I returned it to the local library (like an idiot) and then one day I went back to the library to check it out again and it was gone!...Some lucky devil had taken it home and never returned it... I later on looked around at the nearby college and city libraries and never found it.. Then, the other day I decided to look it up on the internet.. I thought surely it's out there somewhere.. I came across www.biblofind.com and a few others and alas, finally found a source to purchase it from.. I ordered it to today and it should be arriving soon... I can't wait to read this book again!..

I seriously recommend that anyone who has not read this book, find it, buy it and read it as soon as possible... You'll be glad you did!

In fact, I'm already planning on buying more of Steven R. Boyette's books as soon as I've read "Ariel" again... My other fav. author is Dean Koontz by the way...

Happy reading!

Summary: Characters that live and breathe
Review: I first read Ariel as a junior or senior in high school (back in 1986 or 1987), when it was given to me as part of a bag full of used books. I have re-read the book through college, graduate school and my working life and still love it. I have loaned it to friends and relatives, all of whom enjoyed it - many of whom loved it as much as I do.

It is a touching coming of age story and a wonderful adventure story. The best part of the book, I think, is that the characters feel like real people - it is impossible not to care about them. I'm not easily moved by books, but Ariel affects me every time I read it.

I, too, have to wonder why this book is out of print!

Summary: Decent adolescent-grade fantasy
Review: There's a reason that most of the glowing reviews for this novel come from folks who read this when they were in high school or younger. I can totally understand having sentimental feelings for a book you cherished as a child. However, this book has fallen prey to the curse that afflicts most fantasy novels: flat characters.

The story is pretty engaging and the dialogue is, at times, fair. But all of the characters are cut from the same mold and without their names preceeding their statements, you would be hard-pressed to tell them apart. This is not unusual at all. Piers Anthony is an imaginative writer for adolescents who also cannot seem to create a rounded, believable character.

I gauge all fantasy I read against the works of Stephen R. Donaldson. As usual, this story failed to live up to the high standards of character development his stories have set for me.

Nevertheless, you can blaze through this lighthearted fantasy in no time at all. A good airplane read.

Summary: Nice escape for those not reading with a critical eye
Review: This book seems to be a book either well liked or disliked with little in between. However I found it a nice read and escape from the cares of this world. Isn't that what entertainment is all about?

You must want to read this book without worrying about the likelihood or logic of the situation and setting of the story. Let your mind just accept it as an adventure fairy tale.
With that in mind, the story is an adventure you will enjoy coming back to until the last page is unveiled.

This is not the best fantasy book I have ever read, but it certainly was easy to follow, and the story was engrossing. The short sections made it a book easy to take along on my pocket pc and read when stuck in line, or any other time I had a few spare minutes.

If you are looking for a tale that will not tax your brain with facts and characters that take 200 pages to understand, this is it. It also has a pinch of romance added in as the young man struggles with his needs for human companionship and love that conflict with his love for Ariel. If you are looking for something a bit more meaty, try Robert Jordan's "Eye of the World" - it is a five star book, albeit a bit more complex.

At the end of the book is a brief history of the author and the background of the making of this story. It is interesting to see what compels people to write, and this was a nice browse that was a little "extra" added to the book.

Boyett did an excellent job on his first novel - one aspiring authors would be hard pressed to match. I definitely recommend this book for those who enjoy fantasy.

Summary: horrible
Review: one of the worst fantasy books you will ever read

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Garbage
Review: If you like fiction like Stephen king or koontz, then you might enjoy this book. If you are a fan of fantasy (G. Martin or R. Hobb), then you will hate this book because it sucks..... The plot has no purpose, the depiction of characters is so stupid, and there is no sense of intelligence. (Our world has changed in a day, technology does not work. At the same very day, a cop and his friends kill a girl-dragons and unicorns come to life and.....). I know its all fiction but there must be a sense of intelligence and purpose. To give this book 5 stars, and call it one of the best books of all times show other reviewers own idiocy.

Review: awesome book, i was completely addicted for awhile. I've got no special attraction to unicorns, but this book is just great!

Summary: One of my all-time favorite books!
Review: I was, as a teenager, completely obsessed with unicorns. I picked this book up strictly because of the cover, expecting to read it once, probably enjoy it, and stick it on a shelf. Instead, I fell into a wonderful world, with great characters who have stuck with me over my turbulent high school years, my highly depressed college years, even now into my so-called adulthood. I read my copy to pieces, literally. The writing was crisp, the dialogue real, and the dilemmas faced by Pete and Ariel are just as compelling in my memory now, over 15 years later, as they were the first time I read it. I have recommended this book very often - in fact, I was telling a friend about it last night! I can't imagine anyone not enjoying this book.

Summary: 5 For The Story / 4 For E-book Formatting
Review: I agree with the other reviews - this is a great book. Since I did not feel like coughing up the dough for an out of print paperback, I decided to download the book and read it on my Dell Axim. The formatting was a little off, but the story was great! I thank Mr. Boyett for getting me through a week of meeting :)
