Rating: Summary: Star Wars Review: This is a good series of books, even though Luke, Leia, and Han are not usually a big part of the story. The books are interesting. The books are centered around Wedge and his x-wing pilots. These books are often funny. They also offer excitement in the form of x-wing battles.
Rating: Summary: It's Great !!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: This is my favourite book in the X-wing series. It's got everything you could want in a Starwars book. I'd recomend this book to any Starwars fan.
Rating: Summary: WOW! THAT WAS A GOOD BOOK! Review: This was the first "Star Wars" book I've ever read, and I thought it was a great book. Even though it didn't have lots of space battles like I expected but I thought taking over Coruscant was pretty interesting too. It Was Good! ( YOU SHOUD READ IT!)
Rating: Summary: A GREAT BOOK FOR FANS EVERYWHERE Review: Wedge's Gamble continues the amazing X-Wing series. The book is brillantly written and the ending is totally unpredictable. Anyone who likes Star Wars should read it.
Rating: Summary: This book has problems. Review: Wedge's Gamble is quite possibly the worst in the series. It combines all of the failings of the other books with a boring and unbelievable story. I didn't enjoy Tycho Celchu's problems dealing with the squadron's newest droid (who in many ways is a clone of C-3P0). I also felt that the lack of realism was mostly due to the complete stupidity of the Imperials and the grossly imbalanced casualties that are handed out during battle. Has anyone else played TIE Fighter, or X-Wing Alliance? There is more to blowing up capital ships than flying in and lobbing proton torpedoes at maximum range. The dogfights seemed slow and detracted from the very real threats to the Republic by becoming so character driven. Corran (as usual) was rather annoying, particularly when he drew attention away from the main characters, and the major plot. This is one of the weaker ones of the series, buy The Courtship of Princess Leia, or The Bacta War instead.
Rating: Summary: A fast, exciting read. Review: Wedge's Gamble is the second installment of the X-Wing Series. In this adventure, the Rebel Alliance has decided to capture the jewel of the galaxy: Coruscant. Heading up the mission is Rogue Squadron, who is infiltrated into the planet to take down the planetary shields. But while on Coruscant, things begin to unravel and the Rogues must take down the shields or risk capture or execution. While the Rogues go about their agenda, the Imperial High Command begins their deadly work... I think that this is one of the best SW books out. It has everything that one could ask for. Michael Stackpole filled it up with many things, ranging from romance to technical. I like Stackpole's method of Military writing, for it gives a nice feel to the book. Things don't always go well, and are sometimes harder for the characters than meets the eye. Stackpole also details the Imperial Coruscant well, and it fits nicly in George Lucas's Coruscant from the Phantom Menace. As always, the action is superb, although much of it is on the ground, for the Rogues are planet based, but there are the classic space dogfights in the beginning and in the end. The only thing that I found wrong is that there is a little too much in the book, and it might have worked well if the taking of Coruscant took place over two books, and that would allow for more detail and actions. A very good read indeed!
Rating: Summary: Much better than the first book !!! But espionage???? Review: Wedge's Gamble was much better than Rogue Squadron, but it wasn't perfect. (I personally don't see why the book is titled "Wedge's Gamble" when all he did was order Tycho on Coroscaunt). Howevr the idea of having Rogue Squadron do espionage is .. quite queer. As stated in Kevin J. Anderson's book, "Darksaber" General Crix Madine does the spy stuff for the republic. Therefore because Rogue Sqaudron was stuck doing espionage on Coroscaunt those of you who thrive for space fights which involve X-wing vs. TIE's.had to settle for Z-95 headhunters. In this series however Rogue Sqaudron is portrayed as the symbol for the Rebellion. Also Wedge is given a lpt of credit for the destruction of the Death Stars as I recalled Luke blew up the first Death Star, and Han Solo had mad it possible by saving Wedge and Luke's life during the run. Another point Wedge had to leave the and go in for repairs. However since the Squadron was paired up on Coroscaunt some intere! sting things happen between Corran and the "bacta queen".He also met a lot of old nemisis as well as buddies from back when CorSec was around. But like I said before the downfall was no X-wing ccombat.
Rating: Summary: Another good book taking place in the Star Wars univers. Review: When I read the first book of X-wing I was entriget by the story and how well is was told. I have in others Star Wars books felt somewhat bored because the story was too predictibel. And I usual jump the battlescenes because they were very hard to imagine and the writer didn't take the time to explain what was going on! I read all the battlescenes in "x-wing" and for the first time I enjoyed them. This book is just as enjoyable as first one was and the rest is. And it is not so much about jedies and tricks, but brains.
I'm sorry M.A.S dosen't like to write CV's, but cher up, it's only a little page and fans really like to have some sence of who the writer is ...read: what a person he is.
Rating: Summary: The Series Picks Up Review: While I have to admit that the X-Wings series is a great concept, the first book, Rogue Squadron, was a little on the sluggish side for a book about space battles. The second in the series, Wedge's Gamble, kicks up the pace with tighter writing and a more interesting storyline. This time around, the Rogues are sent undercover to Coruscant, capital of the Empire, in an effort to allow the New Republic to take it over. Stackpole handles the whole affair very well, making for a very gripping book. There are pleanty of good action sequences and plot twists to keep the reader interested from begining to end. Though I thought the final solution for the destruction of the shield generators and the battle for Coruscant were a little to quick and easy, its all negligable in the face of the excellent plot and story. One important area in which Stackpole has improved from Rogue Squadron is his devolpment of the main characters. Yes, the book is still a little too Corran-heavy, but this time some of the other members of the Squadron also get in on the action. Particularly well done is Gavin, who is goven ample room to grow in this installment. Also worthy of note is the improvement in the characterization of the Imperials. Ysanne Isard and Kirtan Loor actually feel threatening this time around, and there in genuine tension created when Isard reveals the Krytos virus and her plan for it. This improvement in the villians mnakes the book considerably more exciting than its predecessor. Overall, I consider this to the best of Stackpole's X-Wing books. While there are a few faults, the book as a whole is very well done, making for a worthwhile Star Wars read.
Rating: Summary: A great book in a great series Review: X-Wings, tie fighters, evil Imperial plots, a traitor, and some really great characters(good and evil) all add up to another star wars thrillfest in this highly praised X Wing series. I have heard a lot of hype about this series and only recently started reading it. The first book was really good and this book is even better. The great Star Wars trademark action is here and the plot is very well thought out. The action is relentless but never gets on your nerves becasue it isn't just filler. Like I said, a very satisfying plot with action, mystery, solid dialogue, and even a little romance thrown in there. A great read that will leave you wanting more and there are no disappointments there because the series runs to 8 or 9 books so far.
