Summary: If you enjoyed the first two, you should read this one.
Review: Of the three books in this series, this was undoubtably the worst. I greatly enjoyed the first two, and certainly do not think that my reading of the third book was a waste of time . . . but I think perhaps Ms. McCaffrey was a bit hasty in ending this storyline. She didn't have her usual depth in resolving the plots. The characters were also not as fully developed as I've come to expect from this marvelous author.

Summary: It was good, but...
Review: Overall, I liked this book. It's better than the last one. But did anyone proofread the book before it was sent to the printers? There were three main problems with this book. The first is that Coo and Pess seem to change species a couple times. First they're called Rugarian and then they are described as Deski. I seem to remember this happening in "Freedom's Landing" as well.

Second, the Catteni, Kamiton, seems to have some awesome teleportation abilities. He gets dropped off at his own ship, then he's back on the ship with everyone else, then they have to pick him up from his own ship. Is he a Farmer in disguise or what?

Thirdly, I am confused about the Botany calendar. Their day is longer than Earth's by four hours(wasn't it 2 in "FL"?) and the year is longer also. Near the end of the book Kris mentions celebrating her son's first Botanical birthday. From the kid's vocabulary he must be almost 3 by that time. Just how long IS Botany's year?

These inconsistencies make what would otherwise be a good book lose coherancy. The author has done better work. It's too bad she didn't put more effort into this series.

Summary: Terrific ending (unfortunately!) to a wonderful series!
Review: The book was wonderful! I'm a long-time fan of Ms. McCaffrey's work and this book definitely satisfied my McCaffrey craving. I'm sorry to see the series end - I would happily buy a new "Freedom" book as often as Ms. McCaffrey could write one! My only disappointment was the realization that all had been wrapped up neatly at the end and there wouldn't be any reason to continue the series.

Summary: Books you will read and reread again and again!
Review: This and the two books before are page turners. You will not be able to put them down. In this book you learn what is now to be done with the Eosi to free Botany and Earth. It will make you cheer. Thank you Ms. Mc Caffery for givng us another world to live through. I hope this is not the last in the series.

Summary: a new world and a new saga in the style of Pern!
Review: This is the beginning or a new world! The story never really began. it is more like an introduction and we're waiting for the next book. Hope it is soon!!

Summary: Written for the money
Review: This is the conclusion to her trilogy spun from a short story about a band of humans and aliens made prisoner in an interspecies war and dumped on a planet. They make the planet their own, overcome suspicion and distrust of the one enemy alien among them, and unite to spearhead a rebellion that eventually overthrows the bad guys. Anne McCaffrey has always had a tendency to make her characters too black-and-white - the good guys are courageous, smart, let's-all-be-one-happy-family types, and the bad ones are always annoying, petty, cowardly, generally hateful creatures that you keep wishing would be killed somewhere along the way. She does the same here, to an even greater extent. I have a great respect for her talent, but she has plateaued, and her stories, while still well written, are not as captivating as her earlier ones that won her fame. This series is full of cliches, and while it spins a good yarn, can't really be taken seriously. I get the feeling that this was written more for money than the story itself.

Summary: Painful
Review: This series starts badly and ends even worse. While the plot is reasonably creative, the writing is absolutely abysmal. This series is so carelessly written, and with such minimal attention paid to even the most *basic* details of the craft that it was actually painful to read. Unless you are completely willing to disregard the miserable quality (and the often far-fetched storyline), I would strongly advise against wasting your money on these books.
