Rating: Summary: Songs of Power-Great Book! Review: I never thought I liked science fiction until I read Songs of Power. This book had me reading until 2 a.m. once; I couldn't put it down!!! Songs of Power is packed with tense action scenes and I think it is best suited for teenagers, because sometimes it is a little hard to understand. READ THIS BOOK!!!
Rating: Summary: An involving science fiction story Review: Imina lives in an underwater habitat with her family in a scientific world where there is no understanding of magic or the roots of her family's past. Imina is sure she can be a shaman like her Grandmother, but it's her investigation into damage caused to their underwater abode which makes her talents evident to the others in Songs of Power, an involving science fiction story.
Rating: Summary: Write what you know? Review: People tell beginning writers, "Write about what you know." I can't scuba dive, or even snorkel (a problem with my inner ear) so what did I do? I wrote a novel where the entire story takes place under the sea. I do go to aquariums, the kind where you can stand in a glassed-in bubble, in a big tank, and watch the fish rippling past. Beautiful. If I wrote about what I know, Songs Of Power wouldn't exist. In addition to not scuba diving, I also write science fiction without having a science background, and my herione is an Inuit shaman, though I live in Denver where there isn't an Inuit shaman for thousands of miles! But as a librarian, one thing I do understand is research. I read about manned undersea research stations and Inuit shamanism, with excursions into saturation diving and planketon. I discovered that a physics professor friend of mine was also into scuba. I got onto the internet and contacted the Aquarius Project, and found an expert on shamanism through the University of Alaska. So my advice to any would-be writers out there is--forget writing about what you know. Write about things that are exciting and interesting and cool. Take a herione who is fun and tough. Make her a shaman, whose magic works, and send her to live in a habitat full of scientists who don't believe in magic. And then have a bunch of magic makers declare war on the habitat. Believe me, this is much more interesting than anything in my personal experience. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I did.
Rating: Summary: Songs of Power-Great Book! Review: Songs of Power is a good book, but it's very science-fictiony. The middle was very dry, but the ending was very action-packed and interesting. I loved the ending! It's worth reading, but it wasn't the best book in the world.

Rating: Summary: The Book Review: Songs of Power is a great mystery book. If you like adventure, then you will love this book. It is about a girl named Imina who lives in one of many underwater habitats. She must learn to deal with the fact that the world is now a harmful place. A group of people have made things above water so that food is poisonous. Because of that fact, people have moved to living underwater. Everyone around Imina is somehow working with science and she only believes the fact that her dead grandmother was a magical shaman. She has not yet learned that there is someone with magic underwater. Until things start to destroy her habitat, Imina has no idea what is going on at the time. She will go on an adventure that will change her and the world. I give this book five stars because this book makes you want to keep turning pages. I just couldn't put it down. Songs of Power, by Hilari Bell is a great book.
Rating: Summary: I Couldn't put it down! Review: The book Songs of Power is a great book. It is about a girl named Annis. Annis an her family live in an undersea habitat. Annis comes from a Inuit tribe, and wants to be a shaman. Her great grandmother was teaching her magic, but now she is dead. Annis is trying to learn magic on her own. Almost everyone that lives in the habitat is a scientist and doesn't believe in magic, so Annis can not tell anyone her secret. One day, she is practicing her magic, when she senses someone else in the habitat that is also using magic. She starts searching for the magic maker, in hopes that he or she can teach her magic. Then bad things start happening to the habitat and Annis has to figure out who is doing it. This book is a great mix of fantasy, mystery, and science fiction. It takes place in the future and is very different from other fantasy books if you ask me. It's kind of confusing at the beginning, and in some parts later on, but you can still understand what is going on. They use some confusing scientific words, but if you ignore those, it doesn't make much difference. I really recommend this book to any one who likes fantasy and suspense. I love fantasy, so I enjoyed this very much. It was so full of suspense, I couldn't put it down. I don't want to ruin it for you, so I'll stop writing now. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Songs of Power Review: This is a great book. It contains everything you like: mystery, science fiction, and cliff-hangers. I reccomend this book to everyone, even for adults.
