Summary: Action filled, hard sci-fi at it's very best.
Review:

How many books give you a whole city ripped off the face of the earth in the first chapter? In Manhattan Transfer John Stith gets right into the action, and keeps to going to the very last page.

With great characters and one of the most compelling and original stories I have read in a long time, Manhattan Transfer is a MUST READ for all sci-fi fans.

Summary: What the film "Independence Day" should have been.
Review: Aliens come scoop up Manhatten Island and add it to a collection in a very large ship. But what is interesting about this book is the way the people of Manhatten deal with it. A Great Book!

Summary: A welcome return to hard sci-fi
Review: Although I enjoy fantasy it was really refreshing to read a hard sci-fi novel. The first few pages of the book displaying Manhattan being yanked off the Earth was absolutley fascinating. The science is first rate but not overwhelming, the way Stith weaves the story, moving between plot sequences and characters is very smooth and professional. I found the interaction with the aliens very beleivable and well defined. This guy knows how to get his ideas across and the pacing is perfect. I kept thinking over and over again how this would make a fantastic screenplay. It could have an impact like "Independence Day" but with more beleivable Physics and Science.

Highly Reccomended

Summary: An extended comic book plot that wears thin
Review: Central to this book is one of those "big ideas" that are tremendous fun to roll around in your head -- begin with the premise that aliens have stolen Manhattan and try to make sense of it. The book takes off like a rocket, propelled by its terrific premise. Ultimately, though, the story falls apart under the weight of its own inherent absurdity. For hardcore fans, the book is worth a quick read for some of the cool images.

Summary: Somebody stole Manhattan!
Review: Crime may be at a 30-year low in the Big Apple; but I guess that doesn't mean the heart of the city can't be stolen. This is, at times, a fun and suspenseful read with some interesting characters and mild symbolism and commentary. There should be enough situations to keep a reader at least somewhat interested for most of the book.

Summary: 9/11 is bubkes compared to this\ New Yorkers in space
Review: Forget the World Trade Center. What if the entire Manahatten island was suddenly gone, kidnapped by aliens and taken into outer space by a giant UFO? Sure New Yorkers can deal with a lot,but how much? Yes everyone knows NYrs are tough, this book shows you just how tough.
This book shows you how all of New York(Manhatten)not only deals with the unthinkable but the unimaginable.Interesting premise, very interesting and original story. would probably make a great movie too. Recommended for fans of good old school sci fi with lots of aliens, battles and explosions. Good old John Stith has done it again. Thank you Mr Stith! =)

Summary: Piognant scenes
Review: Has the spirit of the Buck Rogers/Flash Gordon tales. But since the book came out, there is a poignant note for American readers. When Manhattan is captured by aliens and put inside a vast spaceship, with cities captured from other races, the humans go to the highest building to see these other cities. That building is one of those in the World Trade Center. And later, when our intrepid humans tunnel out to another alien city, they get their bearings by looking for the tallest towers of Manhattan.

If this book is even made into a movie, certain scenes will have to be altered from the book's.

Summary: Rendezvous with Rama meets Cities in Flight
Review: Hey, how come it's been so long since the last John Stith book? This one was great: like Clarke's RENDEZVOUS WITH RAMA crossed with Blish's CITIES IN FLIGHT. Manhattan ripped right out of the Earth by aliens! Cool! It's fast paced, exciting, and really has that sensawunder.

Summary: What do you mean Manhattan is gone?
Review: I bought this book on a lark almost 5 years ago. I still reread it occasionally.

The Story follows Manhattan island in the near future, abjucted by aliens. Yup, the whole island. The book deals with the citizens of the city trying to figure out what the heck is going on and how to get out of it. I mean, who would abduct an entire city?

I found it an extremely entertaining read. The characters weren't too two dimentional, and it certainally captured the action/adventure, "Man against the universe" theme very well, with interesting (not totally cliche'd) alien interactions to boot.

It won't ever win any awards, but for a sci-fi fan, it's definately work checking out.
