Rating: Summary: Hmm...I guess its OK Review: But no more than OK. This book is appropriate for times when you need light entertainment with not much cerebral involvement. Sort of like watching your average TV show. The book has some loose ends and lacks sophistication. Oh, I almost forgot, thumbs down for a human future in which people are still addicted to smoking tobacco.
Rating: Summary: One of the Best Series I ever read! Review: First of all, I have to start off by saying two things: 1) I am one of the biggest sci-fi/fantasy buffs I know (hehe) and 2) I accidently started this series with Fire Margins. Not a smart idea. I finally read Turning Point, and loved it. Fire Margins is a good book, but I was confused because I missed the books that came before it. Starting with number one and going to number 5 (I believe its up to 5 now) is the best way to read this series. I'd rank Ms. Norman right up there with Brian Jacques, Andre Norton, Piers Anthony, etc. Turning Point is a fine book and I encourage everyone to read it!Ryan Gustafson
Rating: Summary: Good book Review: Good plot, good characters, good setting, interesting cultures and aliens. One star taken away because at heart I am a fan of HARD Sci-fi and a few things just keep bugging me. Like a alien drink that tastes like coffee to the humans. Or the fact they could all eat the same food. But Lisanne Norman is good enough at everything else, so you are willing to let that go. In other words, if you are not forgiving and demand your HARD sci-fi with out FTL ships and aliens who don't look like anything on Earth, DON'T get this book. If you like a good story and don't mind a few rules being bent, at least try the first book in the series and than decide. The books get bigger and better in the rest of the series.

Rating: Summary: The WORST book I ever read! Review: I can't believe anyone would publish such a poorly written book, let alone continue with sequels. It was amazing I finished it at all, (it must have been a morbid fasination at the implausible plot). The story is very poorly contrived. The characters were badly handled, their reasoning and actions were often unexplained. There was hardly anything alien about Sholans, besides appearence they seemed too human. What dismayed me the most was the reckless use of telepathy without limitations. I didn't believe the incredible learning curve for language by osmosis, or the sudden ability to create illusions. The dialogue was often tedious and very repetitive. Issues that were introduced early in the story were repeated in long passages of dialogue each time differing only in its phrasology. Most of all there seemed no piont to the story, one of the Sholans could have said: "If we get a message to our ship they will come and destroy our ememy, if we don't they will still come and destroy them but they just won't be as prepared." So why write about it? Had I the option to, I wouldn't give it any stars at all. If you like telepathy read 'The Rowan' by Anne McCaffrey. Its handling of characters and story is very eloquent compared to this.
Rating: Summary: This book isn't exactly stand alone, so be patient with it. Review: I don't know where people are coming from who would rate this book one star. Anyone doing that can't really be into science fiction. Re: cigarette smoking - I don't think this is extremely far in the future (maybe 200 years at the most), in case you don't recall, the humans came to the planet on sleeper ships (I know, it still didn't take *that* long), which accounts for some of that ethics lag. Me, I can't believe people still smoke *now,* but since they do, I can believe it of the humans in the future this book creates. No, it wasn't the best book I've ever read, but it's up there. Whenever I read a book like this, I know it is setting up for a sequel, so any new readers of this book - take that into account when you read it. This book sets up for the next, which is maybe better in some ways.
Rating: Summary: Falls more into the futuristic romance genre Review: I give this book 3 stars as a sci-fi novel, but 4 1/2 stars as a futuristic romance. For those unfamiliar with the futuristic romance genre, it consists primarily of romance plot lines set in the future with sci-fi elements. I enjoy reading both sci-fi and romance novels, so I enjoyed this book as an entertaining, light read and am considering reading the next book in the series.

Rating: Summary: Very nice Review: I just finished reading the fourth book in this series, and I found them to be a quite pleasant experience. Interesting characters, situations, and species. And enough uncertainty about where things are going (and where they've been) to keep me waiting for the next title.
Rating: Summary: Wow! I read this and was hooked! Review: I must say Lisanne Norman's writing has only got better after this book! But this was the clencher, the one that grabbed me and brought me into this story, their world, and I loved it! I highly recommend it for anyone who loves books!
