Summary: This book hurt me.
Review: This is quite possible one of the 5 worst books I've ever read. If the autor new anything about ants he apparently wanted to hide this fact by not useing any correct iformation. The best thing I can say about the ant's in the book is they had the right number of legs. As for the people in the book...i can't even tell you how badly portrayed they are. The only bright side to the book is that he inserts little "clips" from a fictional book called The Encylopida of Relivite and Absolute Knowladge. The good thing about these exerpts are they make you glad you don't have to read that book as well. In my opinon don't buy this book, don't even look at the cover.

Summary: SAVE YOUR MONEY AND USE THE LIBRARY!!!
Review: I feel that the reviews are correct about the ants and people. The book was good and interesting, but I really hated the abrupt death of one of the ant charaters and the rushed ending to the book was a BIG turn off.I hope that the other books are better written.

Summary: A solid, entertaining story.
Review: After reading several positive reviews about Empire of the Ants at Amazon.com, I thought I'd give it a chance. Mind you, I am not a bug person, nor a big fancier of mysteries. I was delighted to find a book that kept me hooked the entire way through, one with equal amounts of humor, terror, intellect, intrigue and brain teasers. Werber did a great job of depicting ant life without turning the book into a scientific journal. I felt equal, if not more compassion for the ant colonies in comparison to the Wellses, though the human journey into the cellar did push my curiosity to its peak in its own right. Though the ending was somewhat of a letdown (the final page), I was truly entertained and will be thinking about this book long after finishing it. I recommend this to anyone looking for a thriller and a solid story line.

Summary: A new perception of microcosmic life
Review: I have read this book in 4 days and I could not wait for the end of the plot. Divided into two stories (the ants and a family), it will finally merge into one another without understanding who is who and what is what.

Summary: AN ADULT ADVENTURE IN A TINY KINGDOM
Review: This book is a very welcome antidote to the crude, infantile, relentlessly "cute" approach of such recent films as "Antz" and "A Bug's Life." Those stories may be entertaining for children, but the author of "Empire of the Ants" has succeeded in the very improbable task of dramatizing the lives of a handful of ants in a subtle, thoughtful, and gently humorous way that "grownups" can understand, appreciate, and enjoy. (Much of the credit for this undoubtedly goes to the translator, who did a superb job from the French.) The ant characters, for whom the reader comes to care deeply, are much better developed than the human characters, but that is excusable: the story, after all, isn't primarily about the humans. If the author makes a misstep, it is only in waxing philosophical at times; unfortunately, his musings are not as gripping as his narrative. But this is the only reason I don't give the book five stars. I couldn't put it down; I hated to turn the final page; and I shall never look at ants the same way again!

Summary: Courage, Determination, Perseverance and Ingenuity
Review: All those traits refer not to us human beings, but to the true 'stars' of this story; the ants. The 4000th warrior, whose body is being consumed from the inside by ichneumon wasp larvae, still marches ahead to find the truth about the secret weapon. The 327th male who never really gives up trying to relay his message about the slaughter of the spring hunting expedition. The use by the dwarf ants of russet ant heads infected with a parasitic fungus, to attack the russet ants during the Battle of Poppy Hill. Most importantly, the 56th female (soon to be the founder/queen of the city of Chli-pou-kan). She proves to be an important and interesting key to the story's end. The ending (which seemed very appropriate to me) was excellent, and perhaps, unexpected for some readers. (Now for a bit of "things that make you go 'hmm' ")We human beings fight among ourselves for the superior position on this earth. How many of Earth's other occupants are plotting to join the fight...?

Summary: THIS BOOK IS COOL!!!
Review: When I found this book, I didn't think it would be good at all, but I was bored and nothing to read, so I got it. I haven't finished the book yet, but I'm halfway through and I LOVE it! I've never liked ants or any kind of bug, for that matter, but now I'm actually beginning to like ants! Its cool how the ants think in sort of the same way we do. The only part I don't like is when the ants kill Ouarzazate, the little dog. I like the way Werber gives them some human qualities, but still keeps them more like real ants. I think anyone who likes suspence, science fiction, or just bugs, should read this book.

Summary: Werber's "Les Fourmis" (Empire of the Ants)
Review: In the beginning of the 21st century, in a forest near Paris, the Empire of a red ant queen is facing a menace - the intrusion of the Fingers! Nearby a human family has moved into an appartment that belonged to an eccentrinc relative. Two plot lines parallel one another in the story, as ants and humans begin a terrifying adventure, that will make their ways cross in unexpected ways. Years after I read this book, my hairs still bristle, as I recall reading about the final battle...
