Summary: Well written, bad plot...
Review: Alright, seeing as how I'm a reader that sympathizes with the characters this book is one I would love to ban and wish I never read. I mean, dont get me wrong, it was well written but... If your a true Gilthanas fan or a true DragonLance fan then you may find this book a bit disappointing. Gilthanas, yes, made the mistake of giving up on Silvara which was a punishment all in itself but what happens in his journeys is just plain torture. Im a romantic so I highly believe in love and all that good stuff. This book just took it too far and I know that Gilthanas was just a character in a book but imagine what happens to him happens to you. In my opinion it was a bad book, you might have a different opinion though. Just let me warn you, if you like Gilthanas then do not read this book.

Summary: Disappointing!
Review: Despite fine writing by Douglas Niles, this book is one I wish I could return. Not a novel or even a novella as advertised, it is a collection of short stories often told in first person accounts by other characters. While individually the stories range from fair to good, together they do not sustain the quest for the love of the main character's life. At best we get glimpses into the quest with many side branches along the way.

Perhaps the worse part of the novel is the ending or more specifically lack of one. There is no resolution so that the reader is left with a hallow feeling.

This is not the book I thought it would be and I think it's a shame that this story, one that many dragonlance fans have been clamoring for over a period of ten years, was told in this manner. I can only speculate that the authors were directed to write the short stories as they did rather than deliver the quality that Doug Niles is known for. Ufettered I'm sure he could have delivered a top notch job and worthy addition to the saga.

Advice: please skip it unless you are a Dragonlance fanatic.

Summary: Well Written... But Misleading
Review: Gilthanas is one of my favorite characters and I loved the idea that we'd finally get to read a novel about his adventures..... Too bad it isn't a NOVEL. What it is a collection of short stories with a Gilthanas theme to them. I am not much of a fan of a short stories (I read too quickly to enjoy them), but these tales were well written for the most part, even though they don't appear to be in any particular order.

The novel also has a fairly large supplement of reference material for a card game in the back. I would definatly be interested if these folks wrote a traditional novel with a Gilthanas theme, but this collection of short stories was too disjointed for me to fully enjoy.

Summary: A comment for the record
Review: Gilthanas' fate after the end of 'Odyssey' is described in the second book of Jean Rabe's 'Dawning of a New Age' trilogy, 'Day of the Tempest.'

Also, the book isn't so much a 'novella'... it's a collection fo short stories with game source material in the back. I'm still not sure how the term 'novella' entered into the picture. But, hey, I just write the stuff. :)

Summary: THIS BOOK MAKES ME SICK!!
Review: I am sorry to say, but this book makes me sick!! I was awaiting the arrival of Silvara towards the end of the book. And what Happens!!?? They leave a clifhanger!! Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, if you are out there, please start making ALL of the books. You guys are the masters of Dragonlance. And for the guys who made this book, you need to think of a part 2 to this book!!

Summary: It was not as good as i hoped
Review: I could not wait to read this book but when i got it i was very disappointing. They tried to combine the card game and the book and it just took all the entermaint out of it. And even worse then the whole card game thing is the ending of this book. It just left you with a empty filling. I would not reomend this book to anyone. But i do hope they wright another book about Gilthanas becouse i am a big fan of his.

Summary: 2 Stars ONLY for the good stories
Review: I do NOT recomend this book to ANYONE. Gil and Silvara never found eachother and it ends with them both unhappy and apart still. Spoiler yes but I sure hope there will be a second part to this book. That will end it one way or the other atleast...
feel very let down by this book.

Summary: Not much to say here.
Review: I never liked Gilthanas very much and this 'reader's companion' didn't make me like him any better.

This isn't to say that the quality of the writing was bad or that the book itself didn't read well. Quite the opposite actually, as Doug Niles, et al did a pretty standup job here: I just couldn't find myself developing a rapport with Gilthanas nor any of the book's other major characters.

The saving grace was the appearance of Linsha Majere, a character that I've seen little about except the Clandestine Circle.

Other than this, not much else to say, other than I'd say only for the dieheard Dragonlancer!

Summary: It was okay if you're desperate
Review: I really didn't like it that well. It was entertaining and all, but not the best. I would suggest reading something else before this. The one good thing I can say about the book is that it filled a lot of history in.
