Rating: Summary: Not as Good as First Anticipated Review: I am an Eighth Grader in Middle School. I read this book for my reading class, in a few days. Lots of my friends had read the book before and liked it. The story is about a Utopian community and a boy, Jonas, learning more about the outside world. I did not find the story line very intriguing. In fact, I found it a little boring. I found myself just wanting to finish the book, instead of enjoying it. There weren't many surprises along the way, and it failed to keep me guessing throughout the book. My predictions were almost all correct, and book just seemed to stop. The ending was probably the worst part of the book. The chapters leading up to the ending seemed to go too fast for me. It was like Ms. Lowry just decided to end the book there. There were other things in the book that just seemed never to be explained. They just were. For example, the places in the book, like the family units, and House of the Old, were not described very well. The author never gave you a visual picture. You couldn't imagine yourself there, like in other good books. I also found it too unrealist for me. It wasn't a BAD book, just not a good one.
Rating: Summary: _The Giver_:A Review by... Review: This book is a good one for teens, so I do recommend it. The author, Lois Lowry, knows how to relate to her readers. Imagery is as important as a good plot. This book has both. _The Giver_ is a book which, I believe, will be around for a long time. Teachers, go ahead and assign it to your students. They will appreciate you for it (maybe not right now). It will make an impression on today's kids.
Rating: Summary: The Giver, a mysterious book Review: I enjoyed reading The Giver, the content was always moving along nicely, and was never dull. The writing was witty and had a nice touch of realism to it. The story wasn't to hard to understand but it was very bizzare: a young boy living in a controled community, the community controls everything, no colors, no lanscapes, no animal, no nothing, they don't have this stuff because those type of thoughts could mess up the peacefulness of the community. This boy has ben given the task to have the memories of the outside world. He will get these memories by a man that already has the memories who transfers the memories to him. The only problem I have with this book, is that it rushes into everything too quickly, and seems to not talk to detailful about what is going on. All in all though, it is a great book.
Rating: Summary: The Giver Review: The Giver is an awsome book! It has a very interesting and controversial story. I could not put this book down. It is very controversial in that it talks about the idea of abortion, comunism, and the world of sameness. If you are like me you will enjoy arguing and disscussing the meaning of this book with others who have read it. I recomend this book to all people in the 8th grade or higher because it is so controversial.
Rating: Summary: I Loved This Book Review: I think that the book was one of the best books I have ever read. I don't read that much. The Giver gives a great description of the world that Jonas lives in. I loved the ending. It was surprising and it think about what happened next. I recommend that everyone who loves books read this one.
Rating: Summary: The Giver Review: The Giver takes you to a place were everything is the same, were people high in power make all of the decisions. It takes you to a place where there is no feelings, but all of that is about to change as a young boy named Jonas is About to release thousands of memories from past generations. This is a wonderfully written book and I highly recomend it.
Rating: Summary: The Giver Review: I feel this book is great for older people. I really like this book. It pulls you in to it.
Rating: Summary: A Classic of the Genre Review: In my opinion, the Giver, by Lois Lowry, can be compared to such great works of literature as 1984, or Fahreinhheit 451. I feel that it is a classic of the genre, or someday will be. It is a remarkable book, and it deserves much praise.
Rating: Summary: GGGOOOODDD BBBOOOKKK Review: This is a very Grand Book. One of the best Books I have ever read. There are a few books that I have ever read that are better. Its about a boy who grows up in a perfet world, or a not so perfect world. It made me think about life and what really is a perfect world. Its suprsing to find out what "..." is. Sorry can't tell you the word. Thats another reason for you to read this book.
Rating: Summary: The Giver Review: This book was way to slow. But otherwise in some parts intresting and exciting, but in other parts very confusing. I recommend this book to people who have alot of time, and that like boring books. Thisp book also just left you hanging at the end, but in the middle of the book it was kind of exciting and adventurues. However you have to piece this book together very well if you want to truly understand it. But I just reccomend this book to adults, its not bad or anything, its just not something a kid would want to read. My likes of this book was there were some intressting parts in the middle of the book only. My dislikes were the boring part that weren't exciting at all like at the begening and the ending.
