Rating: Summary: Challenges the exsistence of life and what's to come... Review: I read this novel very quickly(about 2 hours), but it has stayed with me for a long time. It reminds me of a shooting star. A gorgeous sight that comes along once in a blue moon and is not to be missed. And when it does come it holds an impact that with last forever. A beautiful story about a boy who tries to break away from something so right, but later very wrong. This novel reminds me of a poem by Pink Floyd:Overhead the albatross hangs motionless upon the air And deep beneath the rolling waves in labyrinths of coral caves The echo of a distant tide Comes willowing across the sand And everything is green and submarine And no one showed us to the land And no one knows the wheres or whys But something stirs and Something tries And starts to climb towards the light Strangers passing in the street By chance two separate glances meet And I am you and what I see is me And do I take you by the hand And lead you through the land And help me understand the best I can And no one calls us to the land And no one crosses there alive And no one speaks And no one tries And no one flies around the sun And now this is the day you fall Upon my waking eyes Inviting and inciting me to rise And through the window in the wall Comes streamin in on sunlight wings A million bright ambassadors of morning And no one sings me lullabies And no one makes me close my eyes So I throw the windows wide And call to you across the sky.
Rating: Summary: THis book was amazing. Review: The giver is a book that will stay with you forever, it is full of an impact that will amaze you. Each character in this book has some sort of impact on jonases life in an either impactfull or subtle way. This is a tale that means more than is told. That is all I have to say goodnight.... he he he he he he he Refer to pink floyds echoes.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: I love this book! Its about a boy who gets a "job" with a giver. The giver gives him special gifts.
Rating: Summary: Thought-provoking Review: I found this book to be one of the most thought-provoking books I have ever read. I could understand the rationale behind the utopian design, and I could even see its merits. Conversely, I found myself yearning for Jonas to choose the emotion-filled free-will life. Already an optimist, after reading The Giver, I saw our world as an even more wonderful place.
Rating: Summary: Very Compelling! Review: At the end of this school year, our last novel we read was The Giver. We had to read it for our 'Futuristic' or 'Science Fiction' unit. As our teacher explained it, we all dreaded reading this. The first few chapters made us ALL more interested. Just reading about a 'Perfect' world made Jonas' lifestyle desirable by all of us. Yet, as the book progresses, we just slightly find out more about his life. Jonas lives a pretty normal life..in his world until his 12th Year Ceremony. He gets selected...as the NEXT Giver! As of that moment he is in training...and his whole life will change. There is no violence, love, pain, and other things. Not to give away too much, the book gives the definition of Perfection in Life. Something we will probably never accomplish. Read it, and journey through Jonas' life and community. Keep it in mind that it his world is PERFECT, and most of the time perfect isnt that good...

Rating: Summary: An unreal novel of a Utopian fairy tail! Review: For years when I browsed the library shelves I was intrigued by this book, yet I didn't pick it up until so many people recommended it, I decided it was worth a shot. This book is the story of a boy who lives in a perfect world, free of choices. One day he recieves a job that changes his life...and causes him to see the truth about his supposedely innocent society. The Giver is a riveting novel about one boy's journey in a world that's supposed to be perfect. One of my favorite books!

I picked up this book before I fell asleep assuming that I'd just put it down not long after. Boy was I wrong. I stayed up all night long reading this book and had it finished by morning! The book really hooks you and makes you keep reading! I recommend this book to everyone!!! I have read it so many times and I still am not sick of it! Try it!
Rating: Summary: Comment Review: "The Giver"by Lois Lowry is a story about an eleven year old boy who lives in a community where life is totally different to life in our world. He is called Jonas and he,like all the other members of the community doesn't know that there is another reality. But then Jonas learns about the differences between the community and the outside world and he comes to an important decision for himself and the community. Although the story is a science fiction story I really liked it.The story seems less unrealistic as it seems at first sight. It makes you think about the problems of progress and genetic manipulation without seeming to be a warning. The resder likes to read the book chapter by chapter in order to experience something new.Life is described in details and the reader can form a clear picture what life in the community is like and what the different characters in the book are feeling. The story has an open ending. The reader doesn't really get to know what happens to Jonas or the community.I would have liked to know it but this ending only makes you hope that everything changes for the better.
