Rating: Summary: The Giver Review: The Giver is a wonderful story about a boy named Jonas who becomes a Twelve in his community and gets assigned the job of Receiver of Memory. The rest of the story is about his life at his new job. The is an excellent story that you should really read. I thought it was great and I don't do much reading. So if you like reading and you like fictional stories than I suggest that you read this book.
Rating: Summary: The Giver Review: The Giver is an amazing book. Not only is the plot incredibly original, but it almost seems believable. The characters are not the same as the people in real life, but it almost seems that you can relate to them. Lowry does a great job of creating mood and thickening the plot. Jonas still had a lot to learn as the Receiver, and I think that others can relate to that, too, for the fact that learning never stops. Learning continues no matter the age. The ending lacked a few qualties, as in a total solution to the problem. You are kind of left hanging at the end. The concept of the society may be a little harder for younger children to understand, I would recommend this book for children over 12. I thought that this was a great book, and everyone should have the chance to read it.
Rating: Summary: Reader from New Ulm Review: This book is very well done! The author does an excellent job of not revealing what exactly is going on. In this way she holds your interest until the very end of the story. The characters have depth and emotion and Jonas really draws you into the story. This book will make you question everything you beleive about life. An excellent work!
Rating: Summary: A pretty good book Review: This was a pretty good book but it is very simular to brave new world and i think that book was a lot better. But i think this book is good for kids who would not be able to hadle that kind of stuff. i noticed a lot of people didn't like the ending but i thought it was good because you can decide for your self what happened.
Rating: Summary: The Giver Review: The Giver is a book about a boy named Jonas who, at the age of 12, is selected as a receiver of memories. In the community where he lives there are no feelings, no colors, no love, and no pain. Lois Lowry asks the question, "Can people be happy without feelings?" I liked the book because it was very exciting and it had an amazing plot.
Rating: Summary: The Giver Review: Hi my name is Howard and I just read this book in 6th grade and it was the best. It explained what a community might be like in the futur or it waas in thepast. I have read this book over and over because it was so good. I would give you wat it was about but you should read it yourself and most probably enjoy it. You have a blast reading it. Go have a blast. If you had to do a book report or something like that you should trake this book so instead of sad because its homework don't be sad because it is the best book you can ever read.
Rating: Summary: The Giver-Ending?What Ending? Review: The Giver was a good book. When Jonas became Receiver, and everything leading up to it, it was good. Getting the memories-wonderful description. The great escape- a wonderful plot thickening twist. But when the ending came, I was so dissapointed, I could have thrown up. The ending left more questions unanswered than Full Disclosure. I hope that others can figure out what happens in the ending better than I can, because I want the satisfaction of closure over having to figure out (if it's possible) wha happens to our main character.
Rating: Summary: Memories Review: This book is a realy wonderfull one. Jonas's world is very beliveable and the characters are great. When Jonas's world falls apart, he and his friend the Giver put it back together. I read this book a few months before reading 1984 and it certianly was very similar. I foud that many of my fellow 12 year olds enjoy this book as much as I did, and the end was great. I would sugest this book to anyone who loves a good story and great writing stile. I think this I Lowry's best book yet!
Rating: Summary: The Giver Review: This book is about a kid named Jonas, who lives in a controlled world, with no fear, no pain, or no war. You might think he lives in a perfect world, Right? Wrong! In the Community, there is no choices, colors, pleasure, weather, love, emotions, etc. You can not choose your job, spouse, or anything like that. In the "Ceremony of Twelve", 12 year olds are assigned a job in the Community. Jonas is singled out, and gets special training from The Giver. When Jonas becomes the "Receiver of Memory", The Giver gives him the memories of the far past; memories of pain, fear, war, pleasure, colors, and love. (This book takes place in the future) Jonas receives the truth.......This book is VERY original in it's plot, and it is interesting to see the point of view in Jonas's controlled world. I like how Lois Lowry decribes the memories that The Giver gave to him. She also well describes the way Jonas is feeling. It is a very thought-provoking book, which really makes you ponder. The ending sort of leaves you hanging though. I have read this book 3 times, and every time you read it, you understand more of this remarkable book. It just never gets dull. I read it first when I was in 4th grade,(I'm a good reader) although I would recommend it to kids 11 and up. 5 STARS!
Rating: Summary: The Giver Review: This was an excellent book until about chapter 20, whenyoubasically don't get or care about the characters anymore. At theend, I was very dissapointed, at the lack of information. I wanted to know what happened to Giver, and Jonas, and Gabe. And, what happened to the community after he left? This book is very open ended, but otherwise a superb peice of writing.
