Summary: You will definitely love this book!
Review: The Giver is a great book to read no matter what age you are. I read this book in my 6th grade English class and I loved it. We had been reading books all year in there, and when we got to this book, my friends and I never complained about having to read it. We all loved it, and most of us even have read it again in our spare time. Everyone in my class (not just my friends) said after that year of reading that this was by far the best book we had read. It had great suspense and a amazing plot. I read science fiction books like this all the time now. I am now in 7th grade, and all of my friends and I keep asking our teacher if we can read a book just like The Giver. I think anyone could really enjoy this book.

Summary: paradise gone bad
Review: I loved The Giver, and have it completely memorized because I've read it so many times. It brings up the continuing theme of "what if there's a problem in paradise?" I think anyone, not just sci-fi or fantasy readers, would like this book. The main character, Jonas, has a lot of depth, and by the end I really felt like I knew him. This is a definite buy!

Review: I have read the giver and I enjoyed the book emensly. My onlypromblem was That the book didn't develope Jonas enough and justthrough the charecter derectly at you. I recomend this book to all ages for it is an intresting and entertaining book. So my question is WHY NOT READ THE GIVER.

Summary: A Utopia?
Review: The Giver is a very exciting and interesting book. It is abouta boy named Jonas who is selected to be the Receiver of Memories. TheGiver has a very important role in Jonas' life because he is the one who gives Jonas all of the memories he has and ever will have. The jobs makes jonas and the Giver the only people who have memories in their community. They are the only people in their community with memories because the memories were giving citizens of the community pain and grief. When that happened, the community made it so only one selected person would have the memories, the pain, and the pleasure. This job is very painstaking, but it pays off. it pays off because Jonas can see in color, and nobody else in the community can. At first, Jonas' community seems like a utopia because there are no accidents, pain, grief, or hunger; but Jonas wants love and feelings to be a part of his everyday life. they aren't part of his everyday life because feelings were taken away with memories. Jonas decides to run off to another community, so he can change his community and give people memories of love, feelings, and choices, so they could lead nomal and happy lives. You see, if the Receiver of Memories leaves the community all of the memories he or she had to go back to the people in the town. I feel this book is very interesting and suspenseful. it is nice and juicy with descriptions, too. I think this story definitly was told from Jonas' point of view. If I were Jonas, I just would have run away as soon as I found out that there were no feelings or choices. The message this book gives me is that we already live in a utopia. This could be true because with every advantage there comes a disadvantage. This way we are living in the Utopia, or it doesn't exsist.

Summary: Utopia? Not!
Review: In his so called "utopian" world that has noloce,colors, piverty, or even choices, Jonas, a twelve-year-old boy,is chosen to be the Receiver of Memory. He receives other people's good and bad memories, which allow him to see colors and have feelings. He decides to run away, so he can change the community. He plans a risky scheme to escape from the community. While he is accomplishing his task, he has to face the hardships or winter, a season that his community does not have. When he reaches his destination, a community with love, choices, and family; he realizes how much better this new community is opposed to his old one. After I finished reading this book, I felt that jonas received what he desered because he was not a foolish kid, and he was very brave. The message that Lowry gives is that nothing is perfect because jonas thought that his world was great, but when he saw the memories, and compared them with his community, he changed his mind. I think that there are a lot of things that happen that way, for example, when you are buying a house, you think this one house is great, but when you see another, you think it is a lot better and choose that one. From my point of view, this is a very intersting book because it takes place in the future, and the author writes the book from her point of view on what the future would be like. I find the charecters very interesting also; when the the people in the community are given their assignments(their jobs), they are given a bunch of rules to follow, so that basically controls how thet behave. For example, if they are told that they can lie, they lie, and if they are told that the can be rude, they are rude. If i were Jonas, I would not have taken the job of the Receicer of Memory because you have to go through physical pain. The conflict in this book is that Jonas wants everyboy to see what he can see and to feel what he can feel. he does not know how to do that a t frist, but then, he decides to run away. He wants to do this because once he is gone from the community, the memories will come back to the other people, so they can experience them. I give this book a five star rating because it is very well-written, and the plot was well-planned. I couldn't put the book down!

Summary: One of the best books I've ever read! Bad cover.
Review: This book was awsome! I loved the whole thing. It really drew me in and i couldn't put it down! I definetly recomend it to both children and adults. The only thing is that it had a terrible cover that didn't suit the book well. When I saw the cover, I didn't think I'd like it, but i did. Don't judge this great book by it's cover!

Summary: A Thinking Book
Review: After having read this book 3 times, I get more out of thisbook every time. I have learned a lot of things such as how importantchoice is, how boring life would be with everything the same and how much I enjoy making mistakes. Instead of reading this book for plesure I read it to learn about life and to study a life where chocies are made for you and nothing bad ever happens. I liked this book a lot!

Summary: The Giver
Review: I think that The Giver, by Lois Lowry, is a fantastic book about a supposedly "Perfect" world which in most cases isn't always so Perfect. Some people think that with ignorance comes no pain, but the author proves how this is completely untrue.The author shows the life of an eleven year old boy--properly called an 'Eleven' who is soon to become a 'Twelve' and find out what he is to become or"What is to become of him" He is chosen to become the Receiver of Memory, the most important and honorable role in the Community. He is to learn all secrets and memories of life including ones that are most enjoyable, and some that give the most excruciating pain. The author describes the upside and downside of this world. The upside is that no one can make a mistake,for example; someone may choose a job they don't like,or the wrong spouse, and people may have alot of children then there would not be enough food. But you see,that doesn't happen in this world, in this world everything is chosen, or set out for you and you can't make a simple decision like: What color shirt should I wear today? Namely: the Downside. This book is great because it made me feel the pain of ignorance, the joy of learning, and the love between a teacher and a student. This is a WONDERFUL book and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys wonderfully written books.

Summary: The Evaluatoin of The Giver
Review: I just finished reading the best book that I have read in the6th grade. It is entitled "The Giver" and was wonderfullywritten by Lois lowery. This amazing book was about a boy named Jonas and the difficulties that he faces while in training to become the Receiver of Memory. I am going to inform you about the great and horrible obstacles that happen in this book. I think that it was a wonderful sensation when The Giver gave Jonas the good memories because now Jonas knows what love and hapiness are. I also thought that the author did a wonderful job making it heart-warming when The Giver talked about Rose-Mary because that is when he (The Giver) felt love. He talked about that because Jonas asked many questions about her. It was aslo wonderful that Jonas could feel and understand the Giver because no one else could. My eyes were glued to the book ... To find out what happens with Jonas, The Giver and Gabe read The Giver and maybe you will agree with me that a sequel is needed or maybe just a little more information at the end of the book because the author is not very specific.

Summary: The Giver that Gives a Whole Lot
Review: The Giver is five times better than I thouht it would be. Usually, school books are not very much fun to read. They try too hard to teach you something. Well, sinceI read the Giver, I've changed my mind; it was GREAT. It's the best school book I've ever read. This great book is about a boy named Jonas who lives in a utopian world. Jonas is the receiver of memories in his community because no one else in the town has any memories. He finds this out by seeing several memories of the real world. He finds out that his world is just a colorless, emotionless pleace where no one has any enjoyment using the senses. Jonas can't believe this! He is discouraged ans appalled when he finds this out. He runs away looking for the real world. I loved this book because it has an excellent plot, and I loved the ending because you make up the last part yourself. I thought the ending was extremely suspenseful. The setting of The Giver is in a small village. The main charecters in The Giver are Jonas, the receiver of the town; the Giver, the man who gives Jonas the memories; Asher, Jonas' best friend; and Fiona, the girl whom Jonas likes. Th econflict in the book is when Jonas realizes that his world is all the same and that people are not given the choices to experience or feel and to be free and live in a real world. Thsi makes Jonas feel differently about everybody in his life and makes him want to run away. You will be surprised by the way he resolves this conflict. I thought the idea of having a person who actually receives memories was intriguing. A utopia which takes away personal freedom is not worth having! I highly recomend this book. It is fun to read and it will make you think.
