Summary: Receiving The Giver
Review: The Giver, a story focusing on a controlled world, with young Jonas being the major character, keeps the reader turning the pages. However, I wonder how much more or less eager I would have been to keep those pages turning had I not seen "The Truman Show", "The Matrix", or "Pleasantville." If you are considering reading this book and have seen those three movies, imagine a world that combines all of those movies. A world that to most is seen in black and white(Pleasantville), a world where pills are taken to maintain the present state of awareness(Matrix), and a world where all seem horribly unaware of an entirely different world outside the one in which they live(Truman). Having seen those movies made me aware in advance what otherwise might have been great surprises in the story. From minor hints and foreshadowing, I could pretty much guess what was going to happen next..there were no real surprises. Of course, I am not saying that this book is a rip-off of the big screen, the book predates each of the afore-mentioned shows. The story ended in a manner which begs a sequel, leaving more questions than answers. Some have criticized the book for some vivid descriptions concerning infanticide, but I've read far more gruesome details in my daily newspaper. Overall, my main thought the entire time reading the book was that I've heard this story before..but that is in no way any fault of the author.

Summary: A great book that makes you think!
Review: The Giver is a book that makes you think. The main character is a boy who lives in a closed community and he is about to have a very different life. The book is very powerful, but keeps a good story line, unlike some other philosophical books. I enjoyed the book so much. It makes you appreciate everything you have in life.

Summary: CONFUSING YET GOOD
Review: I thought the book was pretty good it was unique and veryinteresting. The plot was good to because it was perfect for thestory. The characters were so interesting and so not like the people of today. The whole story to me was the making you feel thankful for what you have and if things were always perfect it doesn't mean it would be a good thing.Over all it was an amazingly interestibg book.

Summary: A MUST READ
Review: The Giver is about Jonas, a boy who lives in a seemingly perfect world - with no illness, no crime, and no individuality. When Jonas turns twelve he is assigned a job as the Receiver of Memories for the community.

Through his assigned profession he learns there is more to life than sameness. He discovers colors, feel, pain, love, war, and much more. Soon Jonas becomes discontent with his simple life in his simple community and goes on a quest looking for a world that can provide more.

The Giver captures the pricelessness of individuality and the cost that some societies have to pay to be different. This is one of the few remarkable Newberies that EVERYONE should read. I strongly recommend this incredible book.

Summary: bam!
Review: I thought that the book "the Giver" was well written and although the store line was very loose. Lois Lowery wrote some good dialog between characters, but I thought that the word choice could have been better. The storie was unorignal and it conterdicts it self alot. I had to read the book for summer school so we watched movies from the 70's that were almost the exact same thing as the Giver only 20 years earlier.

Summary: My first English book
Review: I read "The Giver" with my class in English lessons. The book handels about a young boy who lives in a community in which no color and no feelings exist. Although this was my first English book, I've ever read, I've had some difficulties at the beginning, but in the end, I've understood almost everything. A big complimente to the author for her open ending. So everybody can imagine his or her own ending and Jonas'life in future. That's the very interesting thing of the book.

Summary: A Review of "The Giver",Germany/Marquartstein
Review: The book "The Giver" is about a young boy named Jonas, who lives in a perfect world:In his community, which assimilates to an isolated town, there doesn't exist neither pain or hunger nor crime or divorces. As he is selected as the new "Receiver of Memory" he can see that there's nothing as it seems. We think "The Giver" isn't that good. Our reasons for not loving that book are that we are two very realistic girls and simply can't follow the storyline, because it's so confusing.Maybe we have too small of an imagination, but above all the ending of the story doesn't really make sense and so many questions are still left open.

Summary: Great Novel for Young Adults
Review: My best friend has been bothering me to read this novel sinceour freshman year in high school. Finally, during my Sophomore year ofcollege, I decided to read it. It's a wonderful story, which should allow many young adults to think upon issues that they may not usually explore. It portrays a utopian like community very well--showing what a big brother/brave new world mentatlity can create.

Summary: Weird Ending!
Review: It was a nice day and they heard a loud noise. They were scared and excited. Then the speaker went on and the voice said for the people to go into the nearest house and stay there. That was how the story began.

Then, Jonas and Asher were throwing an apple and Jonas saw the apple change. Jonas got his job as the Receiver of Memories and his first memory was snow.

In the end, Jonas finds out what "release" really means and he makes a plan to leave and go elsewhere.

I thought the book was cool but the ending was weird. I liked the book.

Summary: 5-STARS!
Review: This book is awesome and teaches you a lot of life lessons. I read it in summerschool and I could hardly put it down. So I read it before class goes over the book. It talked about futuristic Perfect world. No pains, no worries. Each people received certain role which is life long assiment from the elders. Main character, Jonas is assigned as a reciever who recieved all the memories the giver had. As Jonas get more and more memories, he realized his society isn't perfect at all. Then he ran away to the Elsewhere. As the story goes on though, I realized a world with no difference and no choices is not perfect at all.
