Summary: Outstanding piece of literature
Review: This book is very well written. I just could not put it down. It has a good plot and deep characters, and it also has some suprises. The Tenth Planet ends right in the middle of the story so I would not recomend this book unless you plan on reading the sequels.

Summary: Complete page-turner!
Review: This book was amazing. I couldn't put it down. Set within the foreseeable future, Smith and Rusch paint a very believable picture of cultural and technological development. The characters are well developed and have substance, they come alive. Realistic portrayals of science, scientists and researchers from archaeology to biology to nanotechnology to astronomy. Wonderful by-play between the government and the private sector. All the while there's the tingling suspense as more pieces of the puzzle fall into place and the countdown continues...

I did not know while reading this story that it was the first book in a trilogy! At the time, the second and third book were not yet released! I nearly pulled my hair out in frustration. Now that all the books are available, buy all 3. Don't start this book without the other two right beside you! You'll breeze right through them in a weekend.

Summary: This is a great book!
Review: This is a great book that you have trouble putting down! I strongly suggest reading The Tenth Plant Oblivion and The Tenth Planet Final Assualt.

Summary: Not time for a review....
Review: This story isn't over yet - and I can't say conclusively how good it will or will not be. I will say that the first book in the series was very good and I am looking forward to the sequal coming out next year. I have been so dissapointed with this "Invaders From Mars" type of Sci-Fi in the past, that I almost didn't take this one off the shelf. However, I've read both authors work in the "Star Trek" genre and loved it so much that I figured I'd give this one a try. I wasn't disappointed by any stretch of the imagination. I hope that this series can succeed where "Independence Day" and "Footfall" by Larry Niven fail. So far its off to a great start.

Summary: 1/3 of a novel
Review: To me, a good pulp fiction novel has to stand as a complete work, even if it's part of a larger group - - in this case, a trilogy. That's the problem with "The Tenth Planet." At the end of the book, nothing's explained. The reader has no more idea how this plot will resolve than he did on page one.

Unlike Stephen King's excellent serial novel, "The Green Mile," this book had very little on the cover blurbs to indicate that it was only a part of a continuing project. This is less a novel than it is a slick marketing ploy by the publisher to rope you into buying the next two books in the series. I may have been inclined to do that - - the writing and ideas in this book are, on the whole, good. But I'm not going to, because I just don't feel like being jerked around.

Summary: Perfect for the commute!
Review: Well paced and fun to read. A great first volume to a proposed trilogy. Get on board the Tenth Planet now.

Summary: What a con!
Review: Well-written, engaging novel which appears to have no other purpose than to shill for the computer game "The Tenth Planet" which is touted at the end of the book. There simply was no resolution to this story -- it ends "in the middle" so to speak and I think that's a real cheat! I do NOT recommend this book to anyone unless he or she is interested in and inclined to buy computer games. Otherwise, pass!

Summary: Ready To Be Challenged On Your Ideas Of The Universe?
Review: What an extraordinary method to challenge the ideas that we hold about the universe and how it works. This book opens an entirely new door to the mysteries and wonders of the possible existence of life beyond our planet. This is quite an original story which captivates and holds you with anticipation of,"The Arrival." I realize that having to wait for the sequals will be difficult, but atleast we're assured that it shall not be two thousand years. Give this book and the series a chance if you enjoy good science fiction writing.

Summary: Simple but engaging plot; I can see a movie about this
Review: While I was hooked by the end, the book started out a little slow for my taste. There were several scenes in which nothing new was revealed; several scenes that just rehashed what the characters had learned in the previous scene. It almost seemed like the authors were trying to add "filler" so they could make a certain wordcount before leaving us with the cliffhanger. Honestly, I would have preferred the entire trilogy in one complete novel, but I understand the economics of this business and that sequels make money.

After reading the entire book, I realize that those extra scenes are primarily for introducing new characters. I wish the authors had devised a more creative way of introducting a new character than calling them into a conference room and explaining to them things the reader -- and protagonists -- already knows.

That said, I enjoyed the fast pace of the novel. The story, while predictable at times, had some wonderful character development, mostly on the side of the "enemy". I look forward to the sequels.
