Rating: Summary: A really good one-sit-reading! Review: The Last Book in the Universe by Rodman Philbrick is just amazing. It is a young adult book, which can be read by anyone simply because of the broadness of its topics. This book gave me the opportunity of realizing how beautiful are the small things in life. It is an action-packed story with very rich characters, living in a far future, but still there's somehing about this future that evidently connects them with us in the present. There is no big science finding what this is: Love... What are you doing, how come you're not clicking on the buy this item icon?
Rating: Summary: The Last Book in the Universe Review: The Last Book in the Universe is a great book about trying to change things for the better. Spaz is a younger teenager trying to survive in a world where if you don't obey the rules you get "canceled", the sky is grey, and people rot their minds, trying to escape their own horrid lives, by probing fake images into their heads. Spaz has a condition where he cannot probe so he keeps his wit, but has to remember all that he has been through. Then he meet Ryder, an old guy who believes in a better world and believes in preserving the past. Together they try to escape from the "latch" in which they live, to see Spaz's ill ex-foster sister. Along the way they meet a proov, a genetically improved person who doesn't get how human nature works. She helps them get to Spaz's sister and helps save her and brings them to a place called Eden, where normal people have ever been because the proovs look down on them because normal people are their reminders of what they were and should be. I do not want to give away the story, but this is a great book of human behavior, loyalty, friendship, and believing in a better world.
Rating: Summary: Another great book by Rodman Phillbrick Review: The Last Book in the Universe was a pretty good book overall. I liked it because I have read some other books by Rodman Phillbrick and liked them alot. I thought this was a good book also. I like the style this book was written in. The only thing I didn't like was that it was a little longer that Freak the Might and Max the Mighty. My favorite part personally is Chapter 31. It is called "Fear Itself". I really think is breathtaking when Spaz sees them and Ryter says "things fall apart; the center cannot hold; mere anarchy is loosened upon the world." Then, when they see them come over the hill they yell Ryters name and yell "Wheel him! Wheel him!"Then they sieze.......the last book in the universe. The best elements of the book were the style of the writting and overall the story was very good. I belive that It did give a good explanation of these future times and it seems that the author has a good imagination.
Rating: Summary: The Last Book in the Universe, review by Critic Chris Review: This was an excellent book! Avery different, but excellent book. This is a must read. It is scie-fi genre, but I am not a sci-fi reader. Rodman Philbrick has done it again by giving us one of his deep and heavy childrens selections. Check it out. It was an excellent book!
Rating: Summary: A Surprisingly Good Book Review: Well let's see...what to say... "The Last Book in The Universe" is definatly not what you'd expect from the titial. It's a Story about Spaz and the world he lives in. No one reads anymore, no one rights, no one even remembers that stuff after "The Quake". Instead needle probes are for entertaniment and you don't talk about the past, no time you just worry about staying alive. On the streets the only way to stay alive is to Join a gang or Steal, so you're almost always on your gaurd. The only people who don't live like this is the Proov's, Genitically altered people who are perfect and Live in Eden. No one can go there unless they are perfect. Spaz is...well just like his name, a Spaz. He's in a Gang and steals for the gang. One day he robs a guy named Ryder and that's where the story starts. This is a great story and if you really get into it It's pretty deep. You could say It's a action story, but If you're really into action-packed books the I wouldn't get this for action. This book is for people who like Drama, Comedy, Real-Life Situations, and Suspence. You should at least give it a try. Trust me, It's worth it.
Rating: Summary: Wow, read this book ... many times Review: Well, my only opinion about this book is that it is one of the best books I've ever read. The storyline is incredible and the way the author set up the plot is incredible. He made the scenery of the book come so alive; it was like I could see everything in my head, everything that was going on in the book so clearly. The scene of the book was after a nuclear war where only part of the world still remained the same as it used to be. The rest of the world was in ruin, people were starving, killing each other, and even starting to evolve into animal like behavior. It was pretty much run with separate parts of the continent they are on that are now referred to as The Urb. These parts were called latches, and each latch had a latch boss. There were often latch wars that you will start to learn about as you start to read the book and get pretty far into it. People did not live in homes anymore they lived in little cubicles called stack boxes. These boxes were small and didn't have anything in them but whatever small belonging the person or persons owned. There was a race of people called proovs. As you can probably tell that is short for improved. They came from the area of the urb known as Eden where the world was still as beautiful as it used to be. They came to some of the latches to trade with the normal people or give out food to the poor. I do not want to give the whole book away so I wont give you any more information about it. I will just tell you that it is a great book and everything in the book just makes you want to read it more and more. I finished this book in about 3 days. It is about 250 pages of non-stop drag you into the plot stuff that will make you never want to stop reading it.
Rating: Summary: The Greatest Book in the Universe Review: This book is about a boy named Spaz who goes on a quest to save his little sister,Bean, from dying from the sickness leukema. The main charicters in the book are Spaz,Bean,Billy Bizmo, who is the boss of the latch, Ryder an old "gummy", Lanaya the "proov" girl and her parents Jinn and Bree. One of the latches is called URB in which Billy Bizmo is the boss and Spaz boy lives. What i liked about this book is the way the writer, Rodman Phillbrick, used his imagination. In this book they are in the future and use mind probes for smarts. Mind probes are needles that they stick in their heads to watch videos, download information, and for entertainment. I give this book 5 stars**for great a great story and a exelent imagination. I think that this book was spectacular!...
Rating: Summary: A great and entertaining book with a lot to think about Review: This wonderful book is a great introduction to many important ideas, and it is an exciting and imaginative tale to boot. Separatism resulting from genetic modification, large-scale environmental disaster, the impact of too-good virtual entertainment in a world stripped of fulfillment, loss of literacy, and ignorance of the future consequences of present actions; these topics are all brought up within these pages in a very accessible way. This book is also about the search for hope and meaning within a society that is driven by immediate survival needs. While none of these subjects is totally original, Mr. Philbrick's story will undoubtedly expose a lot of younger readers to these issues for the first time. I also thought that the ending was perfect; it is more meaningful and affecting than the "and everyone lived problem-free for the rest of their lives" type of ending. For these and many other reasons, I highly recommend this book.

Rating: Summary: The Best Book Ever! Review: Philbrick manages to create an exciting adventure story in a terrible world with a very sad twist. Yet, amazingly he manages a happy ending. Once again, amazingly, he doesn't make it hard to understand. Thus concludes that this is THE BEST BOOK IN THE UNIVERSE
