Rating: Summary: Awesome sci-fi story! Review: This is the interesting science fiction story of an orphan boy, Spaz, kicked out of his previous adoptive family, living alone in the run-down outskirts of the Urb. When he learns that his former "sister," Bean, is dying, he sets out on a quest with some new friends to help her, trekking through futuristic cities and discovering some surprises along the way. This book is very entertaining (and thought provoking...will our world be as run down in the future as this fictional one?), one most young adults will thoroughly enjoy.
Rating: Summary: This is such a great book! Review: Everybody under the age of 14 should read this book. Not only is it really well written, but it happens to be an example of what the world could turn out to be in the future if the future leaders don't take care of it. With high morals, strong ideas, great adventures, and interesting characters, this book will keep you on the edge of your seat (or wherever you're sitting) until you finish it. I hope that there's a sequel!
Rating: Summary: A world without books? Review: The idea of there being no more books bothered me for days, still does. This is a hard science fiction story, with philosophy in the simplest terms, on every page -- love, hope, redemption.I urge any parent to buy it, read it & then give it to a young person! It's that good!
Rating: Summary: the last book in the universe Review: oh my god that was such a good book! i couldnt put it down, i loved the characters in it. i thought it was cool that once they go to Eden it was where we live, but it did make me think of the children in Iraq, and how they would be just as facinated to the grass, trees, and smells of there we live! but most of all i love the last few words, "the present is here, but the future is ours!" i loved that, it gives a sence of hope, and happiness!
Rating: Summary: This book was boring Review: When I saw this book, I had just got done reading Farenhiet 451, so I had some interest because the previous book had to do with books being burnt, and destroyed, so I wanted to see what this was about. It was not very interesting really, and it took me only three hours to read it. After I finished it, I was very dissapointed. The book is about a boy, who lives by himself in a broken down little hovel of a home. The world is divided into gangs, and he claims not to be in any of them. He knows about them, but hey, hes knows that gangs lead to trouble, and that's something he doesn't want. He lives in constant fear. The book did a nice job on displaying that the world was in ruins, and that's about it. The pace is fast enough to keep a fifth grader entertained, and I was surprised by the simplicity of this book. I advise that if you have this book in your drawer somewere, take it out, and make it the last time you ever had it in the world.
Rating: Summary: Great Story - Excellent writing Review: This is one of the most wonderfully and cleverly written stories I have read in a long time. It is exciting, informative, and entertaining. I am and will continue to reccomend this book to friends and their children ages 11 and up.
Rating: Summary: The Last Review in the Universe Review: The Last Book in the Universe by Rodman Phillbrick. The book is in the future in the life of Spaz going against the odds and making a journey to save his sister Bean and learning many things. He is helped by many people but most of all Ryder. But his journey would not be completed if it wasn't for Lanaya. Ryder was an old human a normal is one of us but this is the future and in the future there is proovs genetically improved humans. Ryder helps him on his journey by teaching Spaz how to read and write after there are no more books because of a government takeover called the shake down. I liked this book because Phillbrick was so amazing on being creative and helping you imagines the future through spaz. I thought it was really funny how there was many kinds of probes. Sexbos was one of them like Phillbrick said "and sexbos, well you can guess what sexbos are about."(pg7). The theme I would say is to go for what you believe in and try if you really believe in it. I agree with Spaz to an extent because I would want a different ending to my journey than what Spaz had. To you I recommend this book, but on my journey in life I have already recommended it to friends.
Rating: Summary: The Last Book In The Universe Review: The Last Book In The Universe is a book about a boy named Spaz that lives in an Utopian Society. In their Utopian Society they have some people that they call proovs. Prooves are people who are genetically improved. In their Utopia they also have mindprobes which you can watch. Spaz is a normal boy and ha has seizures. When he was younger he had a family and a sister named Bean. But one day when the parents saw Spaz having a seizure they were afraid. When that happened Bean was really sick but Spaz was the only person that would be able to feed Bean he medicine. One day when Spaz is going to have to take from someone named Ryter who is a very old man. But when Spaz goes to [take something] from Ryter he discovers about writing. Where Spaz and Ryter live is the outside part of the Society. There was also a big shake(earth quake) that destroyed parts of their city. One day Spaz gets a secret message that says that his sister is sick once again and wants to speak to him. So the journey begins...... I really liked reading this book. I thought that this is the best book that I ever read. I like the parts when Spaz starts his journey. I hope that you will enjoy this book just as much as I did. So what are you waiting for!
Rating: Summary: The Last Book In The Universe Review: This book is about a boy who is called the "Spaz" boy because he is alergic to probing. Probing is when you stick a needle into your brain and you feel live you are in Eden, and you are happy. In this book Spaz goes on an exciting adventure to save his sister, Bean. He gets begged by a old man called Ryter to let him come. I can't tell you any more or i'll ruin the book for you!!!!
Rating: Summary: The Last Book In The Universe Review: Spaz is a boy who lives in the future after "The Big Shake" which has no books. In Spaz's world there are humans that are called proovs because they are Genetically Improved Humans. Being an inproved human makes you perfect. The prooves live in Eden and the regular humans(normals) have to live in the Crypts. One day Spaz finds out that his sister is really sick and that she wants to talk to him. An old man named Ryter remembers about reading and writing and tries to teach Spaz. Spaz starts his adventure to his sister with Ryter. Then later on he makes new friends and finds out a secret. I really enjoyed this book because it was a type of Utopian book and I like the adventures that Spaz has along with Ryter. I also like the ending because it was very sad but happy too!
