Summary: AREA 51, THE OMEGA MISSILE, what else?
Review: I've checked this author's web site out and he's written these books and many more. Glad I've found them. Plus he's got a book coming out on Atlantis next year. Can't wait. This book reminded me a lot of Stargate but with a better ending.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: I thought it was a pretty cool book.
Review: Liked it! It was an easy one day read that kept me entertained the whole day.

Summary: Excellent!!!
Review: Once again, an awesome story filled with adventure. Hard to put down. Even though the story jumps around often, it doesn't hurt the story-telling. You're free to open your mind and travel with the author to remote locations as the plot thickens and begins to converge toward a totally satisfying ending. Good job; keep it coming.

Summary: A fast-paced and intriguing book which I thoroughly enjoyed
Review: Robert Doherty (a pseudonym for Robert Mayer) is one of my favorite military fiction writers, and I have most of his books written under the names Robert Doherty and Greg Donegan, except for the Psychic Warrior series. The Rock is his first book written under the name Robert Doherty, and it has its own, small flaws, but is overall quite good. The characters are not as well developed in The Rock than other books that Mayer has written, but it doesn't detract from the story too much, because the fast-paced plot gathers the reader's full attention.

The Rock follows four main characters: Robert Hawkins, a Special Forces operative; Francine Volkers, a statistical projector working in New York; Donald Batson, a college professor in New Mexico; and Debra Levy, a 23-yr.-old genius in her own right, working in England. The book starts off quickly with the explosion of an atomic weapon deep beneath the Vredfort Dome in South Africa, in a major gold producing mine. The story moves to Columbia, where Hawkins and his SF team infiltrate a drug kingpin's house in search of clues to where a second missing atomic bomb is. It's a dead end, but quickly after, Hawkins is rushed to a meeting with the eclectic group of Volkers, Batson, and Levy, who seem to have nothing in common.

They are informed that an immensely strong radio signal had emanated from Ayer's Rock in Australia, and that their names had been included in the radio signal. The story rushes on from here, following the group as they try to track down the second missing bomb, and at the same time try to solve the mystery that encompasses Ayer's Rock, Meteor Crater in Arizona, the Tunguska region where a "meteor" hit in 1908, and numerous other sites around the world.

This is most definitely worth your time, I know I enjoyed it. Doherty (Mayer) doesn't use too much technical terms, and when he does, he explains them quite expertly. I've read this twice because I had forgotten how good it was, and always like to read good books again. If you're looking for a fast-paced book to keep you up through the night, The Rock is a very good choice.

Summary: LOTS OF ACTION AND THINGS TO THINK ABOUT
Review: Science fiction with a dash of military techno-thriller, this book was an engaging read. I particularly liked the ending. By the same author of Area 51 and Area 51 The Reply which I also enjoyed. This is just as good.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: An exciting science thriller
Review: The back of the book labels "The Rock" as a science thriller. This is an accurate description as it's a combination of science fiction and techno-thriller. While similar to his other books (Area 51, Atlantis, etc. -- published under a pseudonym), this one grabs you at the beginning and doesn't let go.

Five people from across the planet are summoned to a secretive meeting with no idea of what is to happen. They soon learn that a transmission has been received with their names included. Other scientists, the military, the Russians and the President eventually get involved. What results is a race against time to preserve the future of the human race. The resolution is well presented and has a definite sci-fi feel to it.

If you enjoy the other novels by this author, you will definitely enjoy this one as well. It's a quick and easy read that can be completed in one sitting. If you find this work entertaining, check out the novels by James Rollins for other "science thriller" works.

Summary: Some Good Sci-Fi.
Review: The Rock by Robert Doherty (real name Bob Mayer,of course) is some good science fiction, involving some interesting views of things such as Meteor Crater in Arizona, and the 1908 Tunguska Explosion in Siberia. The Rock also had an interesting military element, reminiscent somewhat of "Stargate" at some points

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Great science fiction with lots of action
Review: The story was fast enough to keep me riveted while the backdrop was fascinating. Great read,
