Summary: A very good novel
Review: The Last Day is a very good novel. if you're considering buying it, I would definitly recomend it, as it's quite a bit better than the poorly writen Left Behind novels. It doesn't quite match up to the quality of Caldwell's We All Fall Down, which is, to my mind, the best apocalyptic novel ever writen, but it certainly is better than most of the other endtimes novels, as it shows an intellegence they tend to lack.

Summary: The best novel on this subject
Review: Having read nine novels in this genre now, I am delighted to have come across this one. It is the best of the lot by far. If any author has ever written a scarier, more suspenseful and meaningful apocalyptic novel than this, I'd like to hear about it. The Last Day is a heart-gripping read with very poignant social commentary. Excellent.

Summary: Cathartic
Review: If you want to let go of a lot of longstanding, pent-up emotions, this is the book to do it for you. I found myself silently cheering throughout, getting really caught up in what this book has to say. There are things in here that somebody should have said a long, long time ago. I'm thankful I've had a chance to see it happen. This man tells the truth, and he lays it on the line like nobody else I've ever read. It took guts to write this and I'm sure it's tweaking a lot of noses, but I say, more power to you, Glenn Kleier!

Summary: Great story!
Review: They don't come any more exciting than this. From the first page, this novel sizzles along at a dizzying pace, taking you on one wild ride into the unknown. The detail is astonishing. I can't imagine the hours of research that went into developing the plotline, but it is very well thought out, very tight. It's that attention to detail that gives this story such realism. The "What if?" scenario is completely credible. The suspense is unbearable. If you enjoy thrillers, this one delivers, and with a slam dunk ending you cannot anticipate. Two thumbs up.

Summary: Very enjoyable, but ultimately empty
Review: This is a good book. The writing is fast paced and well done. I read the whole novel in three days. Me problem is only that it didn't really say anything. If a novel is going to tackle God, I feel like once I finish it, I should have a better understanding of God and myself, and I didn't find that with The Last Day. There just wasn't any meat. If you are looking for a novel on a similar topic, but that really pushes into the subject of God and the End Times, I would recomend We All Fall Down, by Brian Caldwell. A superb novel that leaves you thinking for weeks about both God and humanity. The Last Day is worth reading, but it's not quite up to the level of We All Fall Down.

Summary: Excellent
Review: I don't give five star reviews, but in this instance, I was tempted. THE LAST DAY is unique among the books I've read in this genre. It is a startling, unsettling--but ultimately positive--look at what could happen at a "Second Coming." Not at all what you'll expect, be prepared for something thought provoking and eye-opening. Definitely different.

Summary: Thought provoking
Review: I really enjoyed this. I like stories that are different and that involve your mind as well as your emotions. The Last Day does both. It engages you on both levels, with a story that is frighteningly believable, yet forces you to look at lots of interesting spiritual concepts in a brand new light. There is action, love, drama and evil, and a lot of really funny, tongue in cheek humor. The story's many twists and turns are not at all what I expected. I loved it and highly recommend it.

Summary: THANK YOU CHRISTINE B!
Review: A FRIEND RECOMMENDED THIS BOOK TO ME AND I WANT TO PASS ALONG THE FAVOR. THIS IS THE MOST UNUSUAL BOOK I'VE EVER READ. IT READS SO INCREDIBLY REAL THAT YOU WOULD SWEAR IT'S TRUE. THE WAY KELIER WEAVES HISTORY, SCRIPTURE AND CURRENT EVENTS INTO THIS SUPERNATURAL ACCOUNTING OF JUDGMENT DAY IS NOTHING SHORT OF BRILLIANT. THERE ARE SOME UNSUAL THINGS HIDDEN IN HERE THAT YOU WON'T GET ON THE FIRST READ, BUT ARE REALLY AMAZING (AND OFTEN QUITE HILARIOUS) IN A SECOND READ. A GREAT DEAL OF RESEARCH AND THOUGHT HAS GONE INTO THIS STORY. WHEN YOU FINISH IT, YOU WILL SEE LIFE AROUND YOU IN A FAR CLEARER AND MORE OPTIMISTIC LIGHT.

Summary: An effective, affecting novel
Review: As witnessed by the amazing number of reader reviews here, this is a widely read novel that creates widely ranging responses. I was quite taken by the story, myself, which was so different from what I imagined, going in. It is very entertaining, very fast reading, and throws a lot of curves at you--not just in the story line (which is spellbinding), but also in the questions it raises about current religious dogma (which is why some people feel uncomfortable with the book). A stirring, if often frightening tale, it is an enlightening experience if read with an open mind.

Summary: A humanistic novel about the Apocalypse
Review: Ultimately, this novel left me with very mixed feelings. On the one hand, it is very well written and an immense amount of thought and reflection has obviously gone into it. I enjoyed reading it very much. And that's a very rare thing with 'Apocalyptic' fiction, which in my experience has tended to be poorly written and exploitive. On the other hand, there's something rather obvious and simple in Kleier's approach to this material, and a point that isn't really that original.

The possibility of a the messiah being a woman, and delivering a message that's much more humanistic than Biblical. I've got nothing against a humanistic message, but placing it in the mouth of a possible female Christ seems to be done simply to make that message seem new and daring. Rather than actually saying something new, Kleier has simply combined two unlikely camps and pretended that dressing up humanistic concepts under the cloak of the Bible is in itself creating something new.

It's a good novel, and worth reading, but it left me a little dissapointed because there is the illusion of reading some new and facinating ideas while you're swept up in the plot, but after finishing it, I realized that it really said nothing new about Christianity nor humanism, and I was ultimately left disapointed.

If you're interested in an Apocalyptic novel that doesn't hide behind illusions and actually has some new ideas, try Brian Caldwell's novel, WE ALL FALL DOWN. Caldwell is a VERY good writer who has something new and facinating to say about God and mankind. In my opinion, it is the best Apocalyptic novel ever written, and probably the best novel of the year.
