Rating: Summary: Top ten Review: I can't remember the last time I read a book that held my interest so well and had my heart beating so hard. This is exactly what a thriller is supposed to be -- teetering on the edge of insanity and impossibility, but never losing its balance, always maintaining that razor sharp edge, all the way through. They don't come any better than this. Among the top ten books I've ever read, and that's a compliment I don't pay lightly.
Rating: Summary: Incredible! Review: I would just like to say that I found THE LAST DAY one of the most astounding novels I have ever read. It scared me, it excited me, it made me think about important issues in ways I'd never even considered before. This novel elevates the suspense genre to new heights. It is such a dichotomy. The story is complicated, but not hard to keep up with. It reveals itself on many different levels, allowing you to follow at which ever level you like: if you're looking for mystery and action, it's here. If you want a touching four-way triangle love story, it's here. If you want complex, interesting characters you can really get into, there's a whole clutch of them. If you want a philosophical maelstrom with twists and turns that will make your mind reel, it's all here. If it's not apparent that I really, really loved THE LAST DAY, then let me make it clear. THIS IS THE BEST BOOK I"VE READ IN A DOZEN YEARS!
Rating: Summary: Very unusual Review: If you're looking for something very different, this is it. I've never read a book like this before. In fact, I read it twice, realizing the second time just how much I missed the first time through. THE LAST DAY takes the reader on an unforgetable journey into the near future--a nerve-racking journey into a future that is all to possible and all too real. Frightening, but also stimulating and heartwarming, this is a rewarding story that delivers on many levels. There's lots of edge-of-the-seat action and suspense, but the story also challenges mind and soul. In the end, you are left stunned and breathless, realizing you have experienced something quite extraordinary. There's a unique message here that will keep your mind churning long after you finish.
Rating: Summary: Kept me going Review: This is the kind of book you just can't put down. Every page is another piece to a very complex and seemingly impossible puzzle. Few books deliver on their promises, but this one certainly does. The ending is every bit as unexpected, stunning and satisfying as you could ask for. A truly inspired novel from the first word to the very last. I wish The Last Day was only the beginning. Will there be a sequel?
Rating: Summary: Gets you thinking Review: If you like books that create a separate, but excrutiatingly believable reality, this is it. It is so credible, it is frightening. And funny, and sad, and most of all, uplifting. And very memorable. I can't stop thinking about it. It spoke to me on a very personal level, reinforcing a lot of things I suspected but had never seen put into words before. If you enjoy being entertained, scared, thrilled and educated all at the same time, you will get a lot out of this book.
Rating: Summary: Dynamite! Review: Oh boy is this book gooing to set off a few firestorms in the sanctums of organized religion. Fabulous job. Keenly plotted, wittily executed. I went through the whole spectrum of emotions here. Anger, fear, sorrow, laughter, surprise. Much surprise. No book in years has captured my imagination so well and kept me so off balance the entire story (not easy to do in a book of 500 pages). Not a wasted word or misplaced metaphor. The parables are uncanny and devastatingly honest. A fantastic experience. How about a sequel!
Rating: Summary: Holy Cow! Review: How many times do you pick up a book at bedtime and find yourself reading straight thru till dawn? If I hadn't the need to go to work today I would have finished it non-stop. As it is, I'll read a little more at lunch and maybe prop my eyes open with toothpicks tonite! This is as good as they get, so far. Hope it ends as strong, but I can't imagine how the author's going to get out of this one, shy of Armageddon. Don't want to see it end. Now I got to get a little work done!
Rating: Summary: Powerful and Inspiring Review: Whew! Just finished The Last Day and I can say without hesitation that it's one of the best reads I've encountered. Truly unique story, ingeniously alternating history, theology and throwing in a little (highly plausible) sci fi --certainly not your innane run-of-the-mill best seller. In my opinion, a powerful and intelligent work.
Rating: Summary: Very Good Review: Excellent book. Complicated but clean and clear. Moves extraordinarily fast and keeps you going to the very end. Lots of plot twists, bizarre happenings and a surprise ending I never would have anticipated. Highly entertaining, intelligent and unusual. A book you will think about long after you finish it.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful! Review: It was a great treat encountering this book and discovering it to be entirely unlike anything I'd expected! You don't find stories like this anymore. Rich and textured plotting, exciting characters and events. A story impossible to anticipate, full of action, tension, surprises, humour and enlightenment. I thoroughly enjoyed it and highly endorse it.
