Rating: Summary: Better than most, worse than others Review: I'm a big fan of endtime novels, and was really looking foward to reading th Last Day. I was a little dissapointed, although I think that's only because it doesn't quite reach the level of quality that some of the reviews imply. The quality is better than most endtime novels such as the Left Behind series, but it still doesn't come close to some of the better works out there, such as We All Fall Down and The Christ Clone Trilogy. Better than mediocre, but less than it could have been, I would say that the Last Day is only for those who are real fans of the genre.
Rating: Summary: Courage + talent = a book for the ages Review: This novel blew me away. The guts it took for this author to tackle this subject and say the many, many things that no one else has had the fortitude to say! Not only is this a superbly written, edge-of-the-seat page-turner, it makes a huge statement of social significance. It reminds me of classic novels such as BRAVE NEW WORLDS in which fiction speaks louder and more clearly than fact and history, tackling important social issues that no one else dare touch. My loudest praise to Mr. Kleir for a job well done. This story has stirred up quite a spirited debate, and I can only believe that any readers it may have offended are the ones who see their own flaws reflected so clearly and brilliantly in its pages.
Rating: Summary: A real kick Review: I had a ball reading this book. There is more substance to it than in any best-seller novel I've read in years. The whole book is chock-full of mind-blowing surprises and facts that blend into a terrific supsense thriller. Don't start reading it late at night or you'll never go to bed. And keep the lights on, it gets really supernatural in places. I will read anything and everything this author publishes.
Rating: Summary: Marvelous Review: this novel kept me engrossed all the way thru. it is an exceptionally well written work that is meticulous in plot, characterization and detail. what i enjoyed most was the provocative aspects. there are a great many 'hot topics' in here that may singe some sensitive readers ears (especially self-righteous religeousrighters), but the story is so thrilling and frightening, those issues are merely a subplot. i will also say that the ending is probably one of the best and most dumbfounding that i've read in a long time. it took me completely off guard, and i found myself thinking about this novel for days after i finished it. it's thekind of book you will immediately lend to friends so you can have someone to discuss it with.
Rating: Summary: Silly and Time Consuming Review: While I enjoyed some of the bashing of the Roman church, I found the plot pretty ridiculous and the characters unaffecting and stock. I agree the writing is amateurish and that this is third-rate science fiction, but the attempt at social commentary is commendable even if ham-handed. This has all been done before and much, much better in much, much shorter novels. Unforunately, this takes a while to wade through for a predictable climax. Definitely not for discerning tastes or religious right folks.Or me.
Rating: Summary: A new idea Review: For one not given to reading a lot of contemporary fiction, I found this novel quite fascinating. I enjoy books that push you in philosophical ways--even if they are a bit weird, as this book is. But I have to say, I ended up thoroughly engrossed. The unusual twists all have a purpose, as the writer takes you down a very nerve racking path that will keep you glued to the pages. I anticipated the ending about 100 pages out, but not the manner in which it finally took place, nor the odd--if plausible twist it took. All in all, this is a very fine effort and unlike anything I could anticipate. If you enjoy high caliber suspense and surprises, The Last Day will not disappoint. I give it five stars.
Rating: Summary: Breathtaking--and a breath of fresh air! Review: I loved this book! I got so caught up in it the first night, before I knew it I was up hours past my bedtime. A breakneck pace and a gordian knot of a plot to keep you enthralled. Better still, there is one hell of a moral perking craftily under the surface. When it comes bubbling up at the end, look out! This is dynamite--sure to upset a lot of straight-laced people, certain to make religious hypocrites slink into the shadows. Fearless, bold, it will hold your interest till the last word.
Rating: Summary: Keeps on ticking Review: I'm amazed that this book was originally published four years ago and it's still creating a stir. I've read it twice and will read it again. You'll either love it or you'll hate it for what it has to say, but you can't ignore it. This has to be the most original and unsual story ever written on this subject. If more people listened to what it has to say, we'd be living in a far more tolerant world. But hateful, self-righteous ideologues will always be among us. All we can do is stand strong against them. Such books as this will only help.
Rating: Summary: Stimulating, shocking and scary--and uplifting! Review: Now here's a read that will make you sit up and pay attention! How different. I mean, REALLY different! How can you get out of breath lying in bed? Reading this book! I swear, it had my heart beating from the first page and it was like that all the way through. Nonstop. It's impossible to anticipate what is coming next, or where all this adrenaline rush is heading, but it gets there like a freight train. One tip, make yourself slow down and pay attention to the little things--they come into play later. Everything comes into play! This is a VERY tightly crafted plot. The characters are wonderful, the provocative situations are wonderful, the way this book looks at things is wonderful. Like I said, this is VERY DIFFERENT. Get it, read it, be entertained and informed! This is the first time I've reviewed a book here. Hope I was helpful!
Rating: Summary: Involving, touching, exhilarating! Review: I found this book VERY hard to put down. The several engrossing plots, the numerous strong and intriguing characters expertly portrayed, and the spiritual, moral and earthly issues so vividly explored combined in a surprising emotional catharsis for this reader.I was strongly drawn in by the early biotech aspects of this story, captured by the rapid and rapidly developing action, and completely absorbed by the evolving religious dilemmas, questions posed, answers given and profound expression of insight and faith. This book will slake your many thirsts; it is gratifying to the heart, the mind, the body and the soul. It provides much to ponder that is relevant to our true lives and worthy of serious consideration. Which ever you crave, good strong characters involved in high adventure, a glimpse of what the near future might hold, grist for your mind and heart to mull over, you'll happily find it here. Highly recommended!
