Rating: Summary: Mind numbing Review: Without question, one of the most riveting, intelligent and stimulating reads to come a long in many a year. This has it all, brilliant plotting, dynamic, believable characterization, and a killer, surprise ending. The fastest 600 pages in literature. Just hated to see this one end. How about a sequel!
Rating: Summary: Thrilling Review: They don't get any better than this! There were times when my hands were literally shaking so hard I had to put the book down to continue reading. I haven't been so mesmerized by a story in years. Fascinating, surprising, shocking, gripping. I highly, highly recommend.
Rating: Summary: THOUGHT PROVOKING Review: IT'S BEEN APPROXIMATELY 2 WEEKS SINCE I FINISHED READING THIS BOOK AND I FIND I'M STILL HAUNTED BY IT. THE AUTHOR HAS SUCCEEDED IN CREATING CHARACTERS WITH SUCH DEPTH THAT, AT TIMES, I FORGOT THAT THIS WAS A WORK OF FICTION. IT'S A STORY THAT COULD, AND PROBABLY SHOULD, STIMULATE A LOT OF THOUGHT ON THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT AND HOW WE CAN MAKE IT BETTER. WILL OUR JEZA BE PLEASED WITH WHAT SHE FINDS?!?
Rating: Summary: A work of art Review: Rarely have I enjoyed a book more than "The Last Day." Even more rarely have I reviewed a book--reading and rereading passages--noting not only the prosaic writing, but actually feeling the impact of the words as they flood over me....Mr. Kleier truly has a gift. I am one, I suspect, of many agnostic Jews, who, while wishing to 'connect' to the Mysteries, continually seek out stories of the supernatural, the paranormal, fantasy and folk magic (Charles De Lint), as well as revered theologists such as C.S. Lewis (although I must admit to reading the Chronicles of Narnia more than a dozen times from my childhood to well into my adulthood). "The Last Day" moved me to tears....tears of emotional release as I neared the end of the novel. I cannot recall the last time that I felt as moved. I knew that the last few chapters would include the assassination scene-that was a given. However, I never anticipated the impact that this portion of the novel would have on my psyche. I frankly never wanted the book to end. It extends a sense of hope to the reader--bringing out the innocence in all of us that calls for peace, understanding, acceptance of the many differences found in the family of man...that touched a chord in me-- and, if this book's sales are any indication, hundreds of thousands of others. I'm traveling in Japan now as I write this-it's nearly 11:30 PM in Tokyo. Although I should be sleeping to prepare for another chaotic day sorting through the debris of this economic nightmare of a marketplace, I am thoroughly enjoying writing my first fan letter. Thank you for such a masterful piece of art, Mr. Kleier.
Rating: Summary: Potboiler! Review: Talk about edge-of-the-seat stories--this has it all: frightening, credibly developed plotline; intriguing, complex characters; fast-paced action; and a climax that is as thought provoking as it is surprising. Splendid, entertaining, intelligent, and highly relevant for the coming, millennium-frenzied climate.
Rating: Summary: Sophisticated satire Review: One of the keenest looks at contemporary religion I've ever come across. Sharply written satire that bites hard at religious hype and hypocrasy and exposes all that's wrong with modern day organized religions. There's much to learn from this story, as it is incredibly well researched and true to the tenets of the many faiths and locales referenced here. But even better, it's a rich mystery/thriller that manages to take a scary, supernatural event and render it completely real and believable. But let the reader beware, this is not for thin-skinned religious people, and if you have no tolerance for views contrary to your own, this isn't a book for you.
Rating: Summary: Your money's worth Review: First book I've bought in a long while that gave me my money's worth. Packed full of thrills, suspense, knowledge, excitement. As moving a story as you'll ever want to find. Can't anticipate where this plot is going or how it can possibly be resolved in the end. Climax is brilliant and most unexpected. Enjoyable throughout and thought provoking.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding Theological Mystery/Suspense Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this book! The writing was smooth and easy to follow. The characters were well-developed and the scenery was vividly described. The story held my interest as I followed the intrigue, mystery, and underlying theological tensions. This novel made me feel good and enlightened. I hope you enjoy it, too.
Rating: Summary: Bold and beautiful! Review: High praise to Glenn Kleier for mounting one of the most original and inspired new novels in decades! Very fast paced, high drama, epochal mystery, charismatic characters. Even the villains are fastidiously well developed, depicted with rich insights into their fascinating thought processes. I'm totally impressed with this author. There are some bold and beautiful truths in this story that I've never seen presented elsewhere or with such skill. I look forward to reading every novel he writes.
Rating: Summary: BEST PAPERBACK OF THE YEAR! Review: Kleier has envisioned the Second Coming to satisfy every religious group. Yet the book has no religious teaching. It begins on Christmas Eve, 1999, in Isreal, travels around the world, and ends four months later back where it all started. I have recommended this book to every reader I know, and even a clerk in a book store. Buy this book today. You will thank me for it.
