Rating: Summary: A novel for the times we're living in Review: How would God respond to the religious fanatics who have rocked our world with such terror these past months? How would a new messiah deal with the rigidity, intolerance and hate between the different religious cultures? I think exactly as this remarkable book details. A most unusual novel, "The Last Day" places that question directly in the cross hairs and tackles it in a most unsual, spare-no-punches sort of way. This is an extraordinarly original story that will prove satisfying to readers who are fed up with the zealots and spiritual bigots of the world, and long to see a truly frightening, divine come-uppance.
Rating: Summary: A Modern Day Messiah Review: Hats off to Glenn Kleier for putting into words what many young people feel today. The book takes a modern approach to how the world would receive a new messiah and how the various religions and churches would react to the messiah and the message. If you have an open mind and can be honest with yourself, you'll find this book exhilirating, heart warming, refreshing, and very thought-provoking. I can't praise this book enough, it truly is a 6-STAR book. It might even change your life.
Rating: Summary: Great story, great concepts Review: You don't see too many books out there willing to tackle such controversial material. Last Day is about as gutsy and provocative as they come. And a lot fo fun to read. Fast paced and nail-biting entertainment. The story is skillfully developed, frighteningly believable, an emotional rollercoaster to the very last. Deserves to be a classic.
Rating: Summary: Not for the faint of heart Review: Few books have impacted me like The Last Day. It is simply one of the most unusual, exciting and thought-provoking books I've ever come across. From the first page, it rushes off like a rollercoaster on an intense journey through one of the most fearsome confrontations imaginable--an encounter with divinity. Nothing in this fascinating novel is as expected. It is as unpredictable as the weather, and just as powerful and dangerous in being underestimated. What would happen if God (or possibly the Devil) were to send us another messiah? What would He (or in this case, She) have to say about the current state of the world and its great religions? Obviously, all religious leaders think theirs is the Righteous one, but just as obviously, they can't all be correct. This Messiah creates some huge waves in pointing out their foilbles. It makes for some mighty mischief in the world, leading to one Hell of a Hellacious ending. Some people are going to be greatly disturbed by the things this novel has to say. It rocks many religious boats along the way. Nevertheless, if you enjoy rollicking good adventure, suspense, thrills, action and controversy, you will find this as rivetting and impressive as I have. Keep an open mind, and watch where this amazing tale leads you!
Rating: Summary: Surprised Me! Review: I thought this was a straight SciFi book but I was surprised. It turns out that it is an alternate Y2K/second coming story. I was engrossed by the story. It made me think of how I would react to the second coming. Awesome end which tied up most of the loose ends and made me want to read others by Meir.
Rating: Summary: Scintillating & Brilliant! Review: What a thought-provoking, fascinating, dangerous book! How did such a novel get published in this buttoned-down, middle-of-the-road, take no risks society? Kleier's novel is cutting-edge entertainment mixing religious arcana with sledgehammer shocks and explosive thrills. Something to keep you up late, shaking your head with wonder and agreement. Best read of the summer!
Rating: Summary: 14 Review: I didn't care for this novel at all. It isn't a very good thriller or mystery and it's an absolutely terrible and ridiculous end times story. Some reviewers seem to think this book has something to say, but it all seems a little hyper to me. I don't think this author has much to teach readers and he fails to entertain as well. Wish I could say this is a fine first effort for this writer, but that simply isn't the case. He seems to have bitten off much more than he can chew and nearly choked. I wouldn't recommend this one.
Rating: Summary: A feast of pleasure for thoughtful readers Review: Once every year or two my retired father recommends a book for my reading. I cannot tell you how glad I am that he included this one!Kleier has created an amazingly lucid, insightful and enjoyable novel. While endorsing other reviewers' comments concerning the contemporary religious meaning that fills this book, I cannot help but focus on the historical parallels. I could not read this book without wondering what it was like to know Jesus in the first century. I believe that this imaginative "second coming" helped me understand the skepticism, adoration and impact that the original generated. I don't often read a novel, as my other reviews will attest, but I recommend this one to all who possess a thoughtful faith. It is likely to please and surprise you on many levels.
Rating: Summary: Will keep you up late Review: Looking for an exciting sommer read? This is it! I had no idea what this book was about, a friend stuck it in my hand and told me I'd like it, and she was right. It has a unique way of pulling you into a surreal story and making some surprising (if sometimes upsetting) social commentary along the way. One of the amazing things about this book is that it seems so real. The events, the characters, the way it unfolds, it has a "journalistic" flavor that makes you feel as if it is really happening. The effect is spooky and suspenseful. I literally could not put this one down.
Rating: Summary: Get it, read it! Review: Sometimes you come across a book that speaks to you so personally that you can't get it out of your mind. The Last Day is such a novel. The themes in this story are so dead-on relevant to what is happening in the world today that it's as if it is written in response to this morning's headlines. If you are frustrated by all the lies, manipulations and corruption in life, and the fact that nothing ever gets done about it, pick up this book and ventilate. This is everything you wish would happen, but never does. It's a huge bucket of ice water thrown right in the face of all the hypocrites and pompous, stuffed-shirt know-it-alls out there that make life so difficult for the rest of us.
